From CeltsAreHere in this week’s loan news

It was a night of frustration for Luis Palma and Lech Poznań on Thursday as they were torn apart by Genk in the Europa League play-off first leg. The Polish side were overrun on their own pitch, losing 5-1 in a game that exposed them at the back and left them facing a massive challenge in the return leg. Palma struggled to impose himself in attack, with Genk’s intensity and organisation limiting his influence. It was a sobering reminder of the step up required in European competition, both for the team and for the Honduran winger. It looks like Poznań may just have to settle for a place in the Conference League.
There was a small silver lining for Celtic observers, however, as former Hoops striker Oh Hyeon-gyu showed strong character after an early setback. His 38th-minute penalty was kept out, but he responded almost immediately, rifling in Genk’s fourth goal just two minutes later. It was a tidy finish and a clear example of the grit he brings to his game. With competition fierce and every outing under the microscope, Oh’s sharp reaction won’t go unnoticed as he keeps pushing for more consistent game time.

Odin Thiago Holm was once again missing from the LAFC squad in their 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Sunday. The Norwegian midfielder has yet to break into the first team and remains out of the matchday picture entirely. He’s still working his way back after injury, but his lack of minutes suggests he’s got ground to make up both in terms of sharpness and trust from the coaching staff. For someone once seen as a long-term midfield option at Celtic, his current spell in the MLS isn’t going to plan.
It’s been a tough few months for Holm since making the move to the States, and the clock is ticking if he wants to make an impression. Having fallen down the pecking order, he’ll need to grab whatever chances come his way in training or MLS Next Pro games. If he’s to come back to Celtic in the frame for senior football, he’ll need to turn things around fairly quickly

Adam Montgomery wasn’t in Livingston’s squad for their 3-0 defeat against Celtic on Saturday, loan rules stopped him from playing against his parent club. On top of that, he’s been managing a muscle issue, and his fitness will be assessed ahead of Livi’s upcoming home match against Hearts. The club are hoping he’ll recover in time to add some much-needed stability at the back.
Before picking up the injury, Montgomery had settled in nicely at the Home of the Set Fare Arena, offering both energy and balance down the left flank. David Martindale will be keen to reintegrate him swiftly, as Livingston have made a solid start to their Premiership return, currently sitting fourth in the league. Having key players back to full fitness will be vital as they look to maintain momentum.

In Germany, Maik Nawrocki missed out again for Hannover 96 in their 3-1 win over Magdeburg. The Polish centre-back picked up a knock in training during the week and was seen working separately with a bandage on his left thigh. Although not deemed a serious injury, the setback is another delay in what’s been a stuttering start to his time in the 2. Bundesliga. His loan move has yet to truly get off the ground.
Nawrocki has yet to play a competitive minute since making the switch, and while Hannover do have an option to buy, that clause looks increasingly unlikely to be activated unless he finds consistent game time soon. The next few weeks will be crucial for the defender’s hopes of kickstarting his season and proving he can make an impact in Germany’s second tier.

Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson were both in the starting eleven as Partick Thistle pulled off a strong 3-1 win away at Ross County, a result that later saw Don Cowie sacked. McPherson played 72 minutes at right-back, offering composure and defensive stability, while Clarke put in another solid display between the posts. Clarke was booked in the 88th minute for time-wasting, with the Jags holding a narrow lead at the time. His command of the box and communication with the backline were key throughout.
The result sees Partick climb to fifth in the Championship and builds on a promising start to the campaign under Mark Wilson. Both Celtic loanees have slotted in well at Firhill and are contributing to a side that look capable of challenging near the top end of the table. Consistent performances from Clarke and McPherson will only strengthen their claims for more significant roles, either at Thistle or back at the Hoops.

Kyle Ure featured for the full 90 minutes in Ayr United’s 2-2 draw at Morton on Saturday afternoon. The midfielder battled throughout as Scott Brown’s men again showed flashes of promise but couldn’t quite get over the line. Jude Bonnar was an unused substitute on the day, as Ayr remain seventh and are still searching for their first league win. Despite some encouraging performances, they’ve yet to turn positive spells into three points.
It’s been a mixed start for Ayr, who’ve found goals but struggled to shut up shop defensively. Ure continues to be a regular in the middle of the park, while Bonnar will hope for more opportunities in the weeks to come as squad rotation becomes more important. With Brown likely to shuffle his team to find the right balance, both players may have a part to play as the season unfolds.

Mitchell Robertson was once again an unused substitute for Inverness CT as they secured a 2-0 win away at Montrose. The victory lifts Caley Thistle to seventh in League One, although they’ve played one more game than Kelty Hearts, who sit just a point behind. The former Celtic youth captain remains on the fringes, having yet to find consistent minutes under Scott Kellacher.
Robertson’s game time has been limited since making the switch, and while he’s been involved in matchday squads, he’s yet to find a consistent role under the current coaching staff. With competition for places heating up, the young defender will need to bide his time and make the most of any minutes that come his way. A strong showing when called upon could quickly shift his standing within the squad.
As the season moves along, Celtic’s young players are finding themselves at different stages in their development. Some, like Francis Turley and Emmanuel Obidiwe, are stepping up with goals and strong performances for the B team. Others, including Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson, are settling well into loan spells and making a clear impact.
For players like Odin Thiago Holm and Maik Nawrocki, it’s still a case of trying to get going after slow starts and setbacks. The B team sit fourth in the Lowland League and will look to keep the momentum going when they take on Kelty Hearts in Scottish Challenge Cup on Tuesday night. With the chance of Youth League football also still on the table, the next couple of weeks could be big for this group. Whether it's about keeping form, getting fit, or taking chances when they come, every game right now is a step forward in shaping what comes next.

Loan round up for the last few days from CeltsAreHere

PALMA FADED, OH SHINES IN EUROPEAN TIE
It was a night of mixed emotions for former Hoops winger Luis Palma as Lech Poznań claimed a 2-1 away win over Genk in the Europa League play-off second leg on Thursday. Despite the result, Genk progressed 6-3 on aggregate thanks to their dominant 5-1 win in the first leg.
Palma started the match but was substituted at half-time after a quiet 45 minutes, continuing what has been a frustrating spell since his move from Celtic. In contrast, Oh Hyeon-gyu played the full match for Genk, leading the line well and maintaining his recent momentum as he prepares for a high-profile €28 million move to Stuttgart.

    PALMA RESPONDS IN THE LEAGUE
Redemption followed in the league on Sunday, where Luis Palma bounced back by scoring in Lech Poznań’s 2-1 home win over Widzew Łódź. The result lifted Poznań to sixth in the Ekstraklasa table with 10 points. Although Wisła Płock lead the league on 16 points, Poznań have two games in hand, giving them a realistic chance to close the gap in the coming weeks.

HOLM STILL SIDELINED AS LAFC SLIP FURTHER BEHIND
Odin Thiago Holm was once again an unused substitute as LAFC suffered a 2-1 home defeat to San Diego on Sunday night. The loss leaves them fifth in the Eastern Conference, now 15 points adrift of their weekend opponents, who have played three games more.
Holm is still working back from injury, but with his absence extending week after week, the Norwegian midfielder faces an uphill battle to re-establish himself in the first-team picture.

MONTGOMERY MAKES FULL RETURN DESPITE LIVINGSTON DEFEAT
Adam Montgomery played the full 90 minutes in Livingston’s 2-1 defeat to Hearts on Saturday, marking his return from a recent muscle issue.
The Hoops loanee looked solid despite the result, offering energy and width as Livi tried to recover from back-to-back league losses. With the club slipping to ninth in the table, Montgomery’s return is a timely boost as they look to tighten up defensively in the weeks ahead.

NAWROCKI STILL SEARCHING FOR A START
Maik Nawrocki remains sidelined for Hannover 96, missing out again during their 2-1 away win at Holstein Kiel. The Polish defender has yet to feature for the German side this season as he continues to battle for fitness and form. His lack of involvement so far makes it difficult to see his loan spell taking off unless he can break into the starting XI soon.

    CLARKE AND MCPHERSON IMPRESS AGAIN
Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson both played the full 90 minutes in Partick Thistle’s exciting 3-2 win over Raith Rovers at Firhill. The result moves Thistle up to fourth in the Scottish Championship, just three points behind league leaders St Johnstone.
Both players continue to start week in week out, with Clarke providing assurance in goal and McPherson offering consistency at right-back.

URE AND BONNAR FEATURE FOR AYR
Kyle Ure played 54 minutes in Ayr United’s 1-1 draw at home against Queen’s Park, continuing his run of starts in midfield. Jude Bonnar came off the bench to play the final 22 minutes as Scott Brown’s side searched for a winner.
Ayr now sit seventh in the Championship, one point above bottom of the table Airdrieonians, and will be looking to convert performances into points soon.

    ROBERTSON STILL ON THE BENCH
Mitchell Robertson remained an unused substitute in Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s narrow 1-0 win at home to Alloa Athletic. The result moves Inverness into fourth in League One, three points behind leaders Queen of the South.
While the squad continues to progress, Robertson is still waiting for a chance to showcase himself in a competitive game.
As another week wraps up, it’s clear that progress for Celtic’s B team and loanees doesn’t always come smoothly. From Finlay Hale’s match-winner in the Challenge Cup to Luis Palma getting back on the scoresheet, there were plenty of encouraging moments.
But they came alongside tough losses and fitness concerns that show just how up and down development can be. These highs and lows are part of the journey, and it’s that mix of game time and perseverance that will help shape which players are ready to make the next step up to the first-team.

Loan report from the Celtic way

    Loan and international roundup
Adam Montgomery returned from a muscle injury for Livingston at the weekend, playing 90 minutes in their 2-1 loss at home to Heart of Midlothian. It was his first appearance in three weeks.

In the Championship, Ayr United hosted Queen's Park. With no wins in five going into the game, pressure was on The Honest Men to get a result. Things looked grim for Scott Brown's side when they were 1-0 down going into the closing stages. Step forward Jude Bonnar.

Off the bench as a 68th-minute substitute, the ball fell to the Celtic teenager on the edge of the box with seven to play. He smartly rifled it towards goal, and it found the net via Matthew Shiels. It went down as an own goal for the unfortunate Queen's defender.

Kyle Ure started the match before being brought off on 54 minutes.

Elsewhere in the second-tier last weekend, Partick Thistle continued their impressive winning streak, with both Ben McPherson and Josh Clarke starting their 3-2 victory over Raith Rovers at Firhill.

    From CeltsAreHere

Out on loan, Stephen Welsh made his debut for Motherwell, playing 78 minutes in their 1–1 draw with Dundee. It was another frustrating afternoon for the Well, who dominated again, but remain winless after five games – all of which have ended in draws.
Adam Montgomery completed the full 90 minutes at left-back for Livingston in a goalless draw against Aberdeen. It was a steady performance from Montgomery in an otherwise uneventful match. Notably, former Celtic fan-favourite Stuart Armstrong made his debut for Aberdeen, coming off the bench late on.
In Germany, Maik Nawrocki was named on the bench for the first time since joining Hannover 96. The Polish defender was an unused substitute in their 3–0 defeat and is still awaiting his competitive debut.
Over in the United States, Odin Thiago Holm was not included in the matchday squad for LAFC’s game against San Jose Earthquakes. Holm has not featured for the first team since August 17, though he has made one appearance for the B team in that time.
Back in Europe, Luis Palma made his return to club football, playing 26 minutes off the bench for Lech Poznań on Friday night. The Honduran winger was shown a yellow card during his brief cameo.
Elsewhere in the loan ranks, Josh Clarke started in goal for Partick Thistle in their 2–1 win over Airdrie on Friday night. The young keeper could do little about Airdrie’s opener, but Mark Wilson’s side responded well to claim all three points.
Ben McPherson also played the full 90 minutes for Thistle, putting in an assured performance at right-back. He was solid defensively and offered a regular outlet going forward.
Mitchell Robertson was an unused substitute in Inverness Caley Thistle’s defeat to Cove Rangers.
In the Championship, Jude Bonnar started and played 70 minutes in Ayr United’s 1–1 draw with Ross County. Fellow Celtic loanee Kyle Ure also featured, completing the full 90. Both players are at Ayr as part of the loan cooperation agreement between the clubs and continue to gain valuable senior minutes.

    Loan report

Welsh Stars in Cup Win as Loanees Build Momentum
Stephen Welsh was a standout performer for Motherwell in their impressive 1–0 away win over Aberdeen in the League Cup quarter-finals. Solid at the back and rarely troubled, Welsh didn’t need to leave second gear. He appeared to be feeling tightness in his calves and hamstrings toward the end, but it’s hoped this is just match rustiness after not a lot of games.
In the Premiership, Adam Montgomery completed another 90 minutes for Livingston in a dramatic 3–2 defeat to Dundee. Monty played well throughout and was not involved in conceding the decisive 97th-minute penalty that sealed Livi’s fate.

Palma Creates, Nawrocki Waits, Holm Sidelined Again
Luis Palma delivered a strong performance in the number 10 role for Lech Poznań, registering an assist in a 2–0 win over Termalica Nieciecza. Palma created more chances than any other player on the pitch during his 74 minutes and looked sharp throughout.
Maik Nawrocki was again named on the bench for Hannover 96, who drew 2–2 with Dynamo Dresden. He is still waiting to make his competitive debut for the 2. Bundesliga side.
Odin Thiago Holm did not feature for LAFC in their match against Real Salt Lake and remains on the fringes of the first-team squad in MLS.

No Action for Clarke or McPherson Against Parent Club
Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson were both ineligible to play for Partick Thistle against Celtic in the Scottish Cup due to the terms of their loan agreements. Celtic ran out 4–0 winners at Firhill

Robertson Benched Again, Ayr Duo Await Return
Mitchell Robertson remained on the bench for Inverness Caley Thistle during their 2-0 win over Queen of the South. The young player is currently struggling for minutes in the Highlands.
Ayr United were not in action this weekend, meaning Jude Bonnar and Kyle Ure did not feature. Both are expected to return to the pitch on Tuesday night when Ayr host Dunfermline in the Championship.

Welsh Helps Secure Dramatic First League Win for Motherwell
Stephen Welsh continued his solid run of form for Motherwell, helping his side secure their first league win of the season with a dramatic 2–0 victory over Aberdeen. Two stoppage-time goals won the game and gave the side a well-deserved three points.

Montgomery Earns Praise at Rangers Despite Late Defeat
Adam Montgomery turned in one of his best performances of the season in Livingston’s 2–1 defeat to Rangers. The Celtic loanee provided the assist for Livi’s equaliser with a fizzed cross after finding space from a throw-in.
Sky Sports pundit Neil McCann praised Montgomery’s delivery but criticised the Rangers defence, saying:
“First of all it’s a brilliant header, he’s completely unmarked. The delivery is brilliant but the set-up of Rangers for the throw is absolutely appalling. Adam Montgomery gets half a yard and what a ball he’s fizzed in. It’s way too easy and Montgomery doesn’t disappoint.”

Palma Scores and Assists Before Red Card Overshadows Display
Luis Palma had a mixed evening on Wednesday night for Lech Poznań in their 2–2 draw against Raków Częstochowa. The Honduran winger was in inspired form early on, assisting Lech’s opener before scoring himself just before the break.
However, the game took a turn just after half-time when Palma was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Raków captain Zoran Arsenic, who had to leave the pitch injured. Palma has since apologised publicly.

Nawrocki Still Waiting, Holm Out of Squad Again
Maik Nawrocki was once again an unused substitute for Hannover 96, continuing his wait for a competitive debut. The Polish defender has yet to feature since joining the club.
Odin Thiago Holm hasn’t been included in an LAFC squad since September 1st, raising questions about his current role within the MLS side.

Clean Sheet for Clarke as Ure Shines for Ayr
There was a return to positive loan action in Scotland over the weekend.
Josh Clarke kept a clean sheet for Partick Thistle in their 2–0 win over Dunfermline. The young goalkeeper continues to impress between the sticks. Ben McPherson also started and played 75 minutes in the victory.
In the Championship, Kyle Ure registered an assist and played the full 90 minutes as Ayr United beat Airdrie 2–1. Fellow loanee Jude Bonnar was not in the squad on this occasion.

    Robertson Still on the Sidelines
Mitchell Robertson remained on the bench for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, continuing a frustrating spell without minutes.
