Brendan Rodgers hailed Marcelo Saracchi for an "excellent" display in the draw against Hibernian.


The full-back, 27, played the entire 90 minutes of the goalless draw at Celtic Park.

Saracchi has played four times for Celtic, but made his first start in the 0-0 draw against Hibs on Saturday, with Kieran Tierney on the bench for the whole match.

Rodgers was delighted at the display from Saracchi as he praised the Boca Juniors defender, who is on a season-long loan in Glasgow.

On the developing connections between players at Celtic, Rodgers told BBC: "I think it is going to be an ongoing process, players gaining confidence and players coming in and playing their first games.

"I thought Marcelo was excellent today and played the role really, really well."

Thought he did ok today and unlucky with a shot at goal .

 

Did well, never saw the first half but seemingly him and tounetki were decent, watched 2nd half and it seemed only him as tounetki turned to * and played him suicide passes all half, but he did well on his own.

Only player with pass marks.

 

Does look good and should keep starting I think, tidy on the ball, natural in the Taylor type role and quite aggressive in his play. Good passer and crosser of the ball as well.

Would have been ideal to have had him and Taylor the past few year.

 

He needs to start now in front of the unfit megaphone holder

 

Despite not arriving at Celtic until the final week of the transfer window on loan, Boca Juniors full-back Marcelo Saracchi has made a positive impression, with the left-sided player arguably his side's best player against Hibs.

Battling alongside Kieran Tierney for the left-back position, the ex-RB Leipzig, Levante and Galatasaray defender has caught the eye of his manager, despite his limited game-time at Celtic. "Marcelo has a lot of experience - he is a Uruguayan international," Rodgers said.

"From day one, he has been outstanding. You can see his mentality and his aggression – all of the things that we want to see (from him).

 

Should be starting.

 

Thought he was good tonight. He’s a bit frantic, but he’s good.

 

Brings more energy and tempo to the team than Tierney does right now.

He has been a lot better than I expected.

 

Needs to start regularly from here on.

 

Has looked decent his last couple of appearances wonder how long it will be before Rodgers coaches that out of him

 

Improved us for 5 or so minutes and then matched the rest of the team. Just doesn't work with Tierney at CB so not particularly hopeful going forward. Him or Tierney, definitely not both.
