Reo Hatate

I have said it for years and got slaughtered on here, woeful footballer. Just shows how poor Engles must be in training etc. I said previously, it would not surprise me for it to come out eventually that he, Maeda and Engles had moves lined up in the summer.

Engels is pish and been given more than enough opportunities to prove otherwise, Bernardo and McCowan are the ones I feel sorry for, so hard done by, there's no way Hatate and Engels should be ahead of both in the pecking order

 

This is how I am, I don’t think Hatate is anywhere near as bad as made out but his inconsistency is so frustrating and it’s made worse that he’s nailed on to start no matter how * he’s been for 5/10 games probably more so in the hope that he decides to have his one good game at any given time.

Rodgers really needs to have a think and ideally tweak the system and the personnel in there as it’s just got so stale. It’s even more frustrating as it’s one of the few positions in the squad where we do have genuine options to change it up.

 

For a playmaker his passing is a disgrace, kills so many attacks flat because he overhits 5 yard passes. He is an asset to the opposition.

 

He was so incredibly bad that if we were up against a better side he could have cost us conceding 3-4 goals on his own in the first half alone. One of the worst performances i have ever seen from him and his last decent showing was over a year ago. Time to let him sit on the bench, and that is actually being generous.

BR needs to make a example of him. Its not ok to let him on the park because that sends so many bad signals to Bernardo, McCowan, Engels and even McArdle.

 

I like Hatate, but first 3 passes last night, so loose.

 

And that’s without even touching on a successor for McGregor in his current role!!

 

That's true, not only do his dreadful passes kill our attacks - we often get countered because of them. He also contributes next to nothing defensively so when he loses it he rarely wins it back. He's a luxury player who has always shown quality in flashes but those are becoming less and less frequent.

I remember against Brugge he lost possession on the edge of our box - he didn't even look up to see who he was passing to. 45 seconds later he did the same again It was exactly the same mistake twice in a minute, we luckily got away with it. It made me realise how much of a liability he is now.

 

I have been a big defender of Hatate and he is one of my favourite players over the last few years but he is miles of it just now. He looks so flat, just gives the ball away constantly and bar one worldie vs Aberdeen has largely been ineffective.

It’s been a long time since seeing the Reo that gets on the half turn and dances past a couple of opposition players before slotting one in the bottom corner or slipping someone in.

For me he should be sitting out the weekend. Like Daizen for me we should look to move on in January as he looks to have checked out.

 

Totally agree with those saying he has like one good game every 15. That's what it feels like. Gets a lot of free pass time under the manager along with a few others.

 

Needs a boot up the * and be told if you want a transfer then you have to shine.

 

Hatate is a passenger in most games, it's a bit like playing with ten men every game, when Hatate is not contributing, which is more often than not.

Nobody came in for him in the summer it would seem, and with his form nose diving further, we might be stuck with him. Really needs Brendan to make that big call and drop him, and give the likes of Engels, Bernado and McCowan a fair chance, otherwise we will end up with a discontended squad, if we don't have it already.

 

It's not just engels mate. He's got the option of McGowan and bernardo to change it about but persists with hatate.

 

I think the strengths of his game have evaporated in this system we are playing. Instinctively I think he prefers to move the ball more quickly and forward.

Irrespectively of where / how he plays I think hes loose in possession and will turn the ball over a lot. So you may as well give him licence play the ball forward more. Id rather see him give them ball away trying to make an incisive pass than give it away playing it sideways or back.

 

Needs benching.

 

Do you also remember the sublime defence-splitting pass he made against YB to set up Idah’s (own) goal which ensured progression in Europe?

I agree that his inconsistency is a problem and he’s playing himself out of the team at the moment, but no one else we have is spotting and attempting that pass, let alone executing it. Bernardo for one probably would have played the ball straight back to Schmeichel ffs.
