It's the unrealistic expectation that Scales should be a good passer that gets me.

He's every bit as good on the ball, if not better than CCV for example.

It's the fact that both our centre backs are expected to do the job our captain consistently vacates that is the real issue rather than Scales limited ability on the ball.

He was always facing an uphill battle after Starfelt went, especially with his record with CCV in domestic football. Therefore errors were picked up more.

He has grown so much since he first broke into the team.

A lot of the frustration with him and his passing isn’t actually his doing, he’s not asking to be the start of the attacks - it’s tactics.

    Defensively superb though.

Scales and CCV have always been our best partnership, but Rodgers messed it up bringing Trusty in.

Did very well again but he should keep the passes fast and short; forget trying to ping it around, he just can’t do that. Having a very good season though - fair * Seamus.

As most know i can't stand Hatate and think he is by far our biggest problem, but when i am wrong i will put my hands up and admit it.

Liam Scales has what it takes to play for Celtic. One of, if not our best player so far this season imo.

This must genuinly be the most solid CB partnership we've had in absolute years. Just need the midfield to actually do what a midfield is for and pass the ball forward.

The performances of both Scales and CCV have been very much one of the strengths of the team so far this season and again were both very good and as a partnership last night.

Is he actually better than Starfelt at defending his box? I think so. Starfelt was * excellent at those clearing headers in big games though.

For me, he's just better than Starfelt generally.

Grand old team to play for
A lot of people forgot that Scales did very well defensively in the CL last year (as did Trusty), even playing on the right when CCV was out.

His passing has always been an issue, but he is a very solid defender. Think I did prefer Starfelt though as his pace was underrated and a massive asset.

I like Trusty too, if he can tougher up in physical arial challenges, he can be very good for us.

CCV has been worrying me a bit this season with the mistakes that have crept into his game. Even going back to his OG in the Brugge match last year. Also felt he switched off a wee bit at the red star goal last night - could have been a bit sharper and tried to get goal side of their striker when the ball went wide. We all know how good he can be, but it feels like he needs to screw then nut and sharpen up.

You'd swear a 23 year old Franz Beckenbauer was playing for Shamrock Rovers and we managed to sneak in and get him before Barcelona the way most fans go on about him

Best defender so far this season and a lot of the support just won't get off his back

The only moments that frustrated me were their goal, he moves to the front post that Schmeichel already has covered… tbf * knows where Schmeichel was going.

Then the Arnautovic volley he totally misjudged, his judgement and positioning for me needs to be better and it’s often where he lets himself down.

I judge him to the level of CCV now. If he’s going to be his permanent partner, then that’s the bar. They were both excellent last night.

He's having an excellent season so far, very impressive partnership with CCV, who also looked back to his brilliant best last night.

Starfelt was a lot quicker, but I think Scales is better at everything else.

We need to accept that he isn't a classic librero in the Franco Baresi or John Souttar mould

We need a midfielder that is capable of dropping back to collect the ball and look up on the turn

Sadly it hasn't been Calmac this season

For me, this is a huge thing... He's improved every single season, and shows no signs of stopping because his attitude is excellent! He's like Ralston in that you'll get 100% of whatever he has to give, even if that comes with the occasional absolute howler to go with it...

For what we paid for him he's repaid us * knows how many times over, and without any complaints and a sizable chunk of the support on his back throughout... Is there far better out there? Sure! Could we get/keep them ahead of Liam? I don't think so...

He's a good model of developing a player, and should be a template for Donovan etc in how to tolerate short-term shortcomings in favour of bringing through our own...

Good to see the big man getting more of the praise he deserves, he's went up a level every season he's been with us and is now undoubtedly first choice LCB.

No doubt there'll still be some withholding credit for his performances, waiting for a chance to pounce on him when he goes through a sticky patch of form, but that's to be expected.
