Great for the goal but he really frustrates me with his lack of mobilty, lack of strength and his poor decision making.

I just dont think we can play him and Hatate.

They both tale up the same positions essentially when they play, almost like they get in the way of each other

That position he took up for our goal is, randomly, the position he actually looks dangerous every time he gets on the ball.

Not quite right wing but cutting inside from the right centre and looking for movement in the box. Might get better with a proper striker to hit now in all honesty.

He was knackered the last 20 mins. Really good assist but not a great performance overall

Seems to go missing a lot in games.

Great assist. His numbers are fantastic

Our best midfielder in a dysfunctional midfield.

Think he’s very much a numbers player. Will end up with a very impressive return on goals and assists if he plays the majority of games but not convinced he’ll stand out much aside from that. His assist tonight was excellent, but outwith that did very little.

His chance tonight was also almost a carbon copy of the one he missed against Killie too, has to be burying that but was just such a safe attempt.

I’m not entirely convinced yet, but seen enough that he’s clearly a decent player but maybe just not playing in the best position for us to get the most out of him.

I’d be tempted to give Engels a decent run of games playing deeper alongside McGregor which would hopefully free him up a bit.

It's where he played 90% of the time for Nordjsaelland I think.

There's obviously a player there but looks slow to me at times and always seems to want an extra touch

This is defo the issue, same as when we played O’Reilly and Bernardo together it just never worked. Think McCowan and Nygren would work far better.

He is going to be one of those players who will generate excellent stat returns but when we watch him he'll frustrate at times.

Still, must be remembered he's adjusting to his role as an '8'.. as described by Rodgers

I think all our midfielders would be far better if they had a proper energetic presence in the middle of the park with a lot of running, strong off the ball and some ball carrying ability.

It would help protect McGregor and free up one of the other two.

The problem we have is Engels and Bernardo are meant to be that type and aren’t doing it or getting a look in.

That change Engels had to play Balikwisha in last night was criminal how poor his pass was.

That and an actual starting right winger would vastly improve this team. Combine that with Iheanacho getting fully fit and we have a decent side.

Don't get the excessive negativity here, easily our most positive midfielder.
Yes, defensively lightweight - but that should be someone else's job.

This is the nearest we are going to get to Matt O'Reilly for the money we are prepared to spend.

Issues are elsewhere in midfield - starting with the captain but the majority are struggling.

Honestly think both are better suited to being a ten in Europe, which given McGregor’s need for help at the base of the midfield begs the question why we don’t change our shape. Bringing in Bernardo or Engels to play alongside McGregor would go a long way to shoring us up.

I see your point but we really should be recruiting a true, top quality #6 that doesn't need shoring up.

No, I 100% agree and I’ve been saying for years it’s a priority position, especially for Europe. That doesn’t help us over the next 3 months though unfortunately.

If the midfield unit is disjointed then even a good defensive midfielder will get overrun. There is massive gaps in our midfield at times and that will always lead to being easy to play through unless you have someone ridiculous like Ngolo Kante.

It's not as simple as getting a better #6 for me
