Scott McTominay Nominated for the award

The first Scottish player in the mix since Denis Law

McTominay must be in with a good shout of that reading through the names?

If it’s not him and it’s someone who is playing for a more ‘prestigious’ club it’ll be down to snobbery.

He'll, rightly, be nowhere near it.

Should be between Ousmane Dembele, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Vitinha and Salah.

The list itself you have to take with a pinch of salt.

Just watched some highlights and goals of McTominay's season. Looked fantastic and is rightly being considered. Actually makes me proud even though i'm not Scottish tbh

Would be great if he decided to play for us at some point. Pure drive and makes things happen. Anyone know if he's a diehard Celt or not?

    Fun fact

Napoli fans call Scott McTominay "McFratm", which is a combination of his surname and the Neapolitan slang word "fratm," meaning "brother". He's also known as "McTerminator" and "Apribottiglie" (the bottle opener).

Man United fan as far as I’m aware. Think his mums the Scot so he’s adopted us as his nation haha! I’d imagine he’ll be way above us til he retires now too.

Pedri or Gravenberch will win it next year guaranteed.

It should amaze me that Pedri isn’t seen as one of the main contenders this year. I watch Barcelona every week and, although Yamal and Rafinha have been excellent, Pedri is the one who makes the whole team tick.

It doesn’t amaze me though because more and more football becomes simply about 10 second highlights and statistics. The majority of people don’t have the attention span to actually watch a full game. Speaks volumes that clearly even the likes of Scholes had no idea how good this lad is until last weeks exhibition in Newcastle.

The bit about Scholes I'd attribute down to the usual English bias.
If it isn't on their doorstep, they don't know it.

The English football media have done it for years, even their clubs, completely ignoring the rest of football until it falls on their lap.
Many a player goes ignored til one of their clubs sign them, then they pretend it's unearthing a gem.

That’s very true, although I think there’s definitely an element that people don’t tune into the CL the same anymore either. Going back 20 years, it was so exciting to get to see Europe’s finest on your tv, but there’s not the same glamour now.

That said, I’m obviously one of the ignorant ones because apparently there’s been 10 players in the world better than Pedri this year.

If anyone told you when Dembele was at Barcelona that he would win the Ballon d'Or in 2(?) years time, everyone would think you're nuts. Some turnaround from him. Not that he was terrible for them but properly stepped it up last season.

The best footballer in the world is not and never has been Ousmane Dembele. Makes a mockery of the title, even after a top season.
