Do people still think Ange is a better manager than Rodgers?

He was better for us domestically. His style of football was better suited to it and we were more consistent in league games

I think it's debatable. Records fairly similar in points, goals scored/conceded.

Ange had a big rebuild in his first season but received more backing. Rodgers has had to cope with the loss of key players and insufficient backing to replace them.

Rodgers lost Jota, Kuhn, Kyogo, MOR from title winning sides. Jota, MOR and Kuhn were all POTY nominees or winners before they left. In contrast to that Ange lost Ajer, Edouard and Christie - all first team players but all of the back of a really poor prior 12-18 months.

I think if we get the quality up front then we'll be a lot better to watch.

We are far too slow and pedestrian under BR regardless of players at his disposal.

I disagree he had more backing in his first season. He practically rebuilt a whole squad for about 20million. We got more than that for Eddie and Ajer sales

I cant see him doing well with them.

Ange needs a team that can have a lot of possession and are on top of games. His defensive issues were rarely an issue with us as we attack non stop in the majority of our games.

He was a perfect fit for us and im still adamant he was happy to stay until he had that meeting with Lawell and DD about future plans and was probably told he was getting pennies to improve the squad.

I don't think that's true, you know. The football at the start of last season was some of the best I've seen at Celtic. Before we sold MOR, it was literally the best I'd seen since we had the likes of Lubo and Larsson. The players he has at his disposal make a big difference.

    Right, hear me out...

We have a turmoil season, but still win the league.

Peter lawwel and his parasitical friends get ousted from the club.
We insert a few key board members with sporting backgrounds.
We then appoint Rodgers as a DoF and Ange gets appointed as Head Coach again.

They spend the next 4 seasons working their magic, similar approaches to the game, but enough differences that they help each other. Ange experience at Spurs and working alongside Rodgers stops the completely gung-ho approach that neglects the defense. But not enough to stop being high tempo, intensity, never stop attitude.

4 years on, Rodgers bows out as a club legend, Ange steps up to the DoF role and we bring in a new young manager who stays with us for 20 years.
In that time we wipe the floor on Scottish football, win the Europa twice and get to the UCL final.

    Make it happen!

Based on what? Two games at Forest and one bad season at Spurs where he still won their first major trophy in decades? I actually think Rodgers is the best manager we've had since Stein; but Ange is an extremely good manager in his own right.

There are also areas where Ange is clearly better than Rodgers, such as transfers.

Why on earth would you have Rodgers as DoF and Ange as Head Coach when their skillsets are the exact opposite of that?

Rodgers as Head Coach and Ange as DoF.

I'd just rather watch the Ange style of football with a touch of Rodgers sensibility.

Gave us some stinkers in Europe though.

If we could combine the better elements of the two we'd be onto a winner.

I think that's due to personell. I can remember us under Ange too and we dropped some very stale flat performances when we didn't have our best team out there. We were tragic in a 0-0 v Livi when Gigi missed a pen, very poor when a last min Abada winner got us over the line at home to Dundee United, awful against St Mirren away in a 2-0 defeat, bullied all over the park early doors in a defeat at Livi.

The notion that every match under Ange was free flowing attacking football is not true. We had plenty of periods of flat, stale performances.

I fully accept the football is bad to watch now but I think it's more down to having to rely on guys like Idah, Forrest, Yang, Nygren etc in attack.

We were good last season even after MOR. Leipzig was one of our best performances in years. Then we reverted back to the slow side to side horseshoe of doom before Christmas last year

Rodgers is a better manager overall for us. Gets pelters for his style of football at times, but the first 6 months of last season was better than anything Ange produced in my opinion. Had Ange been here for Rodgers first season back and the dross that were already coming in did so, Ange’s style would have fallen off a cliff also.

Exactly this. The reason for us being so poor in the first half of Rodgers first season back was us having lost Jota and then Hatate went out injured for a period of time. We were stuck relying on guys like Palma who clearly were nowhere near good enough.

Rodgers and Ange aren't all that different, they are both very stubborn in how they play. I think Ange was hugely reliant on 3 players - Kyogo, Jota and Hatate and I think when these players were missing or weren't firing we were very blunt and not good to watch.

Likewise with Rodgers, when we've had our key players firing under him - we have been very good. We were very reliant on MOR in his first season, we were very reliant on Kuhn and Maeda last season and I think this year we are going to be very reliant on Tounekti.

Give Rodgers the quality in attack and the fundamentals of our play are good enough.

Think Ange is easier to relate to and perhaps wouldn’t tolerate as much as Brendan has from the board, but overall Brendan is the better manager. In saying that the football has been pretty dull to watch since the end of last season. Maybe that’s on the players he’s had available though
