He's been nowhere good enough to date but I think people forget he only turned 22 yesterday. He's still got the years to turn it around.

The thing Engels needs to work on the most is his positional sense, he just seems to run all about the place and get caught out defensively. His confidence is low at the minute so I hope a big performance might get a kick out of him. All of our midfielders have been well under par so far this season, I don't believe Nygren will keep him out of the team much longer if he doesn't improve his form.

Totally agree. Think he had a good season last year overall without being spectacular and hopefully he is back to his best soon.

He did have a good season last year, as you say without being spectacular.

The fact he's had 2 weeks training, match fit and got no game time today is odd..

Wonder if there's been a bit of a huff and some words had somewhere..

More the fact the manager has a massive blind spot for Hatate and McGregor

    Dont really care tbh.....

He strikes me as a huffy wee * as well.

Had multiple chances to do even the easiest of things on the ball and cant....

Like Hatate....Absolute dog *.....Just unusual that Rodgers wont drop Hatate also.

Get to winter and hope we get at least half our money back.

Would still rather the lot of them than Engels. He's shown very very little. So much so that people still don't know what it is he's supposed to actually be good at

Nah tombe fair Engels has been poor but the others are equally as poor yet seem untouchable

I don't think anyone else in that midfield is offering anything more tbf.

I think there's who's offering more currently and then whose quality do you know exists and would persist with to try and get them back into form.

For me Engels has shown nothing to suggest that he can reach the levels of McGregor or Hatate when they're playing well. Not at their peak, but when they're simply playing well.

We know the levels McGregor and Hatate can reach. There's an argument there that neither have reached a great level in some time. But they're players I would much rather see on the team sheet than Engels in the hope they can rediscover it. Jury still out on Nygren

Engels, meanwhile, hasn't shown any particular run of form that suggests that he can reach those same levels. Whenever he's had a prolonged run in the team he's consistently been pretty poor in my view.

So I think that's why I would stick with the players Rodgers currently is. Because he knows deep down that if they manage to raise their game then they offer much more than Engels.

I'd also say his transfer fee increases people's perception of his quality.e If he'd have signed for £1.5m from Strasbourg for example, then I don't think people would be so positive about what they believe he brings or can bring to the table.

I've genuinely seen next to nothing that makes me think he'll be a success here. So aye for me he's behind the guys who've shown their quality in the past. He's had opportunities

No the transfer fee is an issue bcoz we simply can't afford to right off an £11m investment. It's Rodgers job to develop him, that's why he's on £3m/year. Having him sit on the bench for a year and essentially leave his replacement to deal with him is poor form.

The truth is we can. If he consistently shows that he isn't good enough, then yeah, we can afford to write off an investment. Doesn't matter if it's £3m or £11m. Trusty was £7m for example and isn't near it most of the time due to Liam Scales proving generally more reliable (injured just now I know).

We can't look to spend greater amounts of money in the transfer market and then start * the bed if one or two of them clearly aren't good enough. Or persist with them and cut your nose off to spite your face.

We want to regularly start bringing in better quality which in turn costs higher prices. And when you're selling your top players for £25m-£35m then the scope is there. Yeah there's a greater financial risk but you're not ever going to grow as a club if you're not prepared to take a risk here or there.

He's been here for over a year now and is clearly not particularly rated by the manager. Is barely starting games these days

Flip side of that is the manager can't moan about not being backed if he's failing to develop the £30m worth of talent he got last season.

He's not improved any of Idah, Engles, Bernardo or Trusty. * he's barely improved Mccowan.

Engels isn't going to get any better sitting on the bench watching McGregor pass it backward or Hatate kicking it out the park.

Listen you won't hear me disagreeing about Rodgers not improving players. I think he has a lot to answer for with the regression of some of these guys.

Even when he's talking about how he would stay beyond the summer if everything is aligned - I'm not convinced he's what we need.

I just don't think Engels gets any better playing football either. Because like many he's just stayed the same or regressed to a lower level, and he didn't start at a particularly high one when he arrived
