Galymzhan Kenzhebek

Celtic could be set to beat Hearts to land Kazakhstan international winger Galymzhan Kenzhebek.



The Hoops had a disastrous transfer window, which has infuriated their supporters, who are planning protests against their board in future games.



But, according to reports in the former Soviet nation, they have jumped to the front of the queue ahead of Hearts and plenty of other European clubs in the race to land the 22-year-old wide man.



Kenzhebek plays for homeland club Yelimay Semey, but he is out of contract at the end of this year. His club rejected bids from three Slovakian sides - champions Slovan Bratislava, Kosice and Zilina - in the summer and want to keep him until his contract ends.

He has reportedly also had interest from clubs in Russia, Austria, Czech Republic and Belgium. However, Celtic have sent scouts to watch him and he impressed them




He's played in all five of Kazakhstan's World Cup qualifiers so far and scored his first international goal this summer in a friendly against Belarus. Hearts were this week linked with Kenzhebek, as part of a double swoop with countryman Islam Chesnokov, the Tobol Kostanay winger who is due to arrive in Edinburgh on a pre-contract agreement later this year.

But Celtic may have jumped the queue to land the highly-rated young winger.

To be fair, there’s supposedly other clubs from Belgium and the likes interested. Hearts are using Jamestown Analytics now and some of their recent signings look very impressive

Look at someone like Kvaratskhelia, who went from the Georgian league to Napoli

There are some gems in these leagues and we haven’t really explored it at all

If he has come out of the Jamestown analytics as a player of interest then he is probably got some strong underlying numbers and it’s a question of can he step up.

The model has worked time and time again in picking up guys from obscure places who go on to be good. Just look at the list of strikers that have gone through USG plucked from obscurity.
