Back out again telling everyone to shut up and move on

Ex-Celt Charlie Mulgrew is convinced the Irishman has the experience to plot a path through the mayhem and continue to produce performances.

He said: “Brendan is a professional guy. He’s been a top manager operating at the top level for years now so he’ll get his head down now and coach the players that are there, you’d imagine.

“And make sure they understand the plan and what’s needed in the final year of his contract.

Regardless of what the plan is for him, he needs to put his best foot forward and make sure of that and I’m sure he would do that anyway.

“That’s the way he is. That’s what he’s done for Celtic over the years. I expect them to go on a run and improve in the final third on the park.”

Under-fire Celtic chiefs claimed the club couldn’t push the boat out for signings due to UEFA rules – and even the £80m in the bank is untouchable.

But fans point to massive profits and rivals Rangers spending more than £20m despite making losses in recent seasons.

Celts will resume league duties with a six point lead over the Ibrox side but Mulgrew is convinced the next few weeks will make or break the season.

He said: “I think the next 10 games will be massive for both clubs. We’ll see where both Celtic and Rangers are after that. It’s clear and everybody knows Celtic’s final third stuff’s not been good enough. So a couple of extra signings and I’m sure they’ll be working on it. We’ll see where they are then.

They’ve still won games this year. The Rangers game was disappointing but they’ve still not conceded a goal in the league.

“So they’re defensively good, looking at the positives. But I’m aware that the final third is where they need to do better in terms of dynamic play in the final third, having that bit more creativity.”

Celtic fans have revolted on the back of the failure to tool up ahead of the dismal Champions League exit and the chaos around incomings and outgoings in the final days of the window.

But Mulgrew said: “The Champions League’s done. We’ve done our moaning about it, me included. So, move on. It’s the Europa League now.

“Everybody wanted each other to be in the Champions League. They never got there for certain reasons.

So let’s go now with the Europa and let’s see how good we can do in that and domestically take care of those games as well. It’s a reasonable draw in the Europa League.

“They’re all hard games, these games, when you go away in Europe and home in Europe it’s difficult but looking at it’s a decent enough draw.”

I think you're wrong with your interpretation @Notorious

Yes, he has said 'move on' re missing out on the CL etc and get on with the football challenges that the team has in front of them, and in so far as the football is concerned, looking to Rodgers to lift his game, to prove he actually is a manager worth the £3m p.a. which it is arguable that he really has not been doing since the turn of the year. Instead, to use the resources that he does have, even if it means tweaking his tactics to get the best out of what he does have at his disposal.

It's an interesting approach from Mulgrew....

We've got Sutton and Boyd who alienate the other half with their bias and wind ups, always staying with their own fans opinion.
That's the normal approach to win easy points, get coverage etc.

Mulgrew on the other hand is making a name for himself by going against the fans and sticking up for the club
well it's different....no such thing as bad publicity Charlie?

I didn't see any quotes sticking up for the club in that piece. He was talking about Rodgers and on the pitch stuff.

To be fair with his son in our youth setup and his cousin playing for the women's team I can see why Charlie is picking his words carefully. I'd rather he kept his mouth shut about Celtic though as its clear as day he was talking * and trying to kiss *. Probably angling for another job for the bhoys somewhere down the line too.
