The situation had became toxic for him and I think with that was happening at the club, the penalty miss and his form, it was right for him to go.

I think he had the attributes to succeed here, he wasn't a terrible striker or anywhere near as bad as made out and I would not be surprised if he goes on to have an excellent career but I think the weight of leading the Celtic line was too big for him.

Good post. Fair, sensible and not looking to treat the lad as a scapegoat, which is usually the case on here.

He could have scored a double hattrick and he would still be *

    Good for him though

Nowhere near him because he was either like a statue in the box or walking back into the box. His movement is honking.

I think the Irish coach said the side put almost 40 crosses into the box. That's what you have to do sometimes in order to score 1 headed goal. Ireland also scored from the rebound of a cross into the box for their first goal. I've no issue with that style of play when you have like 7 lads over 6 foot in the team. Id say we put in like 5 crosses a game into the Celtic box. Most of our crosses are low cut backs. We never played into Idah's strengths. Managers call.

Don’t know who was on comms for the game last night but must have been a Celtic fan. Kept mentioning how “it didn’t work out at Celtic for idah (Which we all know is completely true) when he came on and even after he scored.

but if you look at the stats as a neutral/outsider you’d think it’s been a success 100%. Glad for idah to get a goal after what’s been a terrible week I’d imagine. Bet Swansea couldn’t believe they’re apparent luck when we said yes immediately hahaha

Generally is more effective off the bench, not a surprise he came on for the last 15 or so and grabbed a goal against a team playing with 10 men.

    Frustrated with Idah

    Unquestionably the talent was there, and we saw evidence of that at;

    Motherwell away
    Hibernian away
    Kilmarnock away
    Them at Hampden
    Villa away
    Young boys

Just a pity he couldn’t do it more consistently, and his confidence dropped away

The Celtic fans turned on him viciously after just four games of the season, it was unreal and unfair I thought. Basically hounded him out of the Club.

Idah reads the Celtic forums, just like other Celtic players I would imagine, and he would have seen the extreme level of dissent and insults getting hurled at him on the Celtic forums and media slots, and probably said to himself,

" * that, I'm out of here, after all I've done for the club in the last eighteen months ".

    I can't say I blame him myself.

As much as we * the window, it was absolutely the right move to sell him. Even for him it was the right move.

    Disagree.

He should have been given this season, to see if he could replicate the form and goal count of the last eighteen months. We could then have assessed the situation better, at the end of the season.
That would have been the fair and right way to act imo.

I'm pretty sure the Celtic Board sold him, just to reduce some of the £40M loss suffered by going out of the Champions League.

    https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2025/0907/1532285-idah-opens-up-on-torture-of-his-celtic-spell/

Adam Idah has admitted he faced "hate" and "torture" as he fought a losing battle to win over his critics during his time at Celtic.

The 24-year-old Republic Ireland striker completed a move from the Scottish champions to Sky Bet Championship Swansea on deadline day having spent 18 months in Glasgow, initially on loan.

Former Norwich frontman Idah returned south of the border with two league titles and a Scottish FA Cup winners' medal to his name - he famously scored the decisive late goal against Rangers which clinched the latter at Hampden Park - but having failed to convince his most stern detractors.

Speaking after heading home a late equaliser in Ireland's 2-2 World Cup qualifier draw with Hungary on Saturday evening, he said: "I think there have been so many games where I've won them games and got them qualified for things, the finals. It probably goes unnoticed.

"It can be tough, you get a lot of hate. You might have a bad game and it's torture. It's a difficult place up there. But flip it the other way, you're doing well and it's the best place ever.

"I think that's what it's going to be like at any top club. You've just got to deal with that.

Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's a really proud moment for me, playing for them. Having done my time there, I've had some great memories. I've got nothing bad to say about the club. It was an amazing experience for me to go and play there

To score, I think, 20 goals last season coming off the bench, it kind of goes a bit unnoticed. But that's football. It's time to move on now and get a fresh start."

Idah was preparing for the first Old Firm derby of the season last Sunday when Swansea's interest was made known to him, and Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers left him out of his squad for the 0-0 draw at Ibrox as a result.

He was also due to report for international duty, but was able to tie up his switch before heading for Ireland to begin preparations for their qualifiers against the Hungarians and, on Tuesday, Armenia.

Idah said: "It was crazy. I probably found out the day before that game, which was a bit of a crazy week, to be honest. It's going to be a fresh start for me. I've spoken with the staff there and the lads.

"I loved my time at Celtic. At first, I didn't want to leave Celtic. I wanted to go and fight for my spot. I wanted to do well there.

"But Swansea have a great project and I know some of the staff there. What they think I can bring to the team is something I want to go and do. I spoke with the staff at Celtic and it seemed right. I'm really looking forward to going to Swansea."

Just shows he doesn't have the mentality to play for a big team then. As we knew.

Your name doesn't get pulled out a hat to see who faces criticism.

It doesn't come on the back of "a bad game" either.

Months of watching Idah fail to control the ball or do anything remotely positive brought that apparent "torture". Not to mention he was given the Irish benefit of the doubt for long enough too.

Kyogo, a far better striker than Idah was struggling in this Rodgers set up.

I think the perfect striker for the way he plays is/was Moussa Dembele. His game was so well rounded. He had the touch, strength and game intelligence to play lone striker in this system. Maybe Iheanacho will do well. He's a similar type.

Honest and open. Hasn’t tried to sugar-coat anything there either.

Good luck to him, just didn’t have what it takes to consistently be a success at a club that “anything other than a win is a loss”.

A club that if anyone’s looking from the outside now. Is like maybe only Real Madrid/barcelona in world football. People must be seeing the fight ongoing atm with the board thinking it’s crazy. We’ve won the last 4 titles. Countless cups. Still top of the league now.

but that just shows how the support demand success only comparable to Madrid/barcelona. Any sight of decline is disastrous (and rightly protested right now).

some players, fans, pundits will just never understand it until they experience it. It was obviously just too much for idah.

Genuinely should have tried to get moussa back this window. Hes 29 now and been bombed out the ettifaq squad (unsure why) but still performed well for them the 2 seasons he’s been there. Contract runs to 2027 so maybe one we could look at the end of this season. A player now if they look after themselves can play until 35. No reason at all why he wouldn’t still be good. I’d imagine wages would be an issue though anyway

Would probably still do a job, outside of the wage constraints tho I think he and Rodgers had a breakdown in their relationship when Moussa felt promises were broken ahead of his transfer to Lyon.
