Bobo Balde admitted to a psychiatric ward

As school resumed on Tuesday morning, September 2, former Celtic Glasgow star Dianbobo Baldé, 49, worried parents and staff when he made rambling and threatening remarks outside the Accates school in Marseille's 11th arrondissement. He returned to the school on Thursday morning and was once again taken away by police and admitted to the psychiatric emergency room.



The disconcerting scene took place at the start of the school year , around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in front of the Accates school in the 11th arrondissement of Marseille . As parents were dropping off their children at the entrance to the school, the staff's attention was drawn to an elderly man with an imposing build, who did not appear to be a parent and was standing in front of the gate, muttering sentences in a foreign language. When questioned about the reason for his presence, the man, nearly 2 meters tall, agitated and as if in a daze, then made remarks as incoherent as they were worrying, explaining that he " would leave last " because " he had things to do."



The staff then alerted the police, while the individual spoke of a "mission" before dying, also frightening the parents of students nearby. To the point that a witness, probably also a parent, deliberately hit the man with his car and then punched him in the face, driving off before the police arrived.



Injured, particularly in the face, the man had to be treated by firefighters before being taken to the police station by a police rescue team from the 12th arrondissement, who were a little surprised to discover the identity of the suspect.


It was Dianbobo Baldé, a former Guinean international footballer. Now 49, he was one of the leading figures at Celtic Glasgow in the early 2000s. " He's a very nice person, but he started to make somewhat incoherent remarks, even at the police station ," said a police source. The former athlete, who lives near the school, " was questioned, but as a victim, after being hit by the car ," the Marseille prosecutor's office said . But he did not wish to file a complaint, stating that his behavior may have worried the parents of the students .



While, at the request of Sylvain Souvestre, the local mayor, municipal police officers were deployed near the school to reassure parents and staff following Tuesday's incident, "Bobo" Baldé was seen nearby again on Wednesday. And this Thursday, September 4, in the morning, police officers from the South Division were again called in to arrest him after another appearance in front of the school. But given his condition, the former footballer had to be taken to the psychiatric emergency room at Timone Hospital

Had the pleasure of meeting the big man on a number of occasions over the course of 2 weeks back in 2003 when I did my work experience at Celtic. Nothing but a true gentleman and a fantastic human being.
