Callum Osmand

Not his fault but it is a red flag for me. I have only seen a handful of minutes of him in action so I can't properly judge him but all those signs worry me that he is simply another Joey Dawson who will never threaten the first team door.

 

There are plenty of guys who haver never appeared for their clubs in that setup though. I'd just be a little worried that he doesn't seem to be rated by his national association. It's not definitive or anything but it does make you ask why?

Osmand comes from an excellent academy and Fulham wanted to keep him.

That says a lot more than not having a Wikipedia or playing for Wales U21.

 

Lee O'Connor came from an excellent academy too and had no impact here.

 

True of Mousa too. Pretty sure he didn't have a Wikipedia page. Just a Twitter account and the Huns number.

 

He had 3 seasons of senior football and had appeared in the Premier League and scored 15 goals in the Championship for Fulham.

He had all this achieved at the same age Osmand is now.

 

And a Wikipedia page?

 

We could go back and forth all night with real life examples of players making it and not making it.

The point you’re missing is the factors you’re listing have zero bearing on whether he’s a good footballer or not. Whereas the factors I listed are much more concrete evidence of what he’s like on the pitch, which is very promising.

The beautiful thing is, you could still be right. That’s football.

 

Rodgers spoke about holding off on deals for Tillio and Welsh due to restrictions on number of loans and wanted to make sure there was enough space to loan out those who needed it. We ended up only using 4 of the 6 loans permitted.

Yet Osmund and Inamura are still here. If neither are in his plans then they should have been out on loan to develop but that's the problem. Rodgers knows yes away at end of the season so he doesn't give 2 * about developing the club signings.

I think it’ll take an injury crisis for him to get a chance. He looked ok in a couple of pre-season games in terms of his movement, but he doesn’t look first team ready.

 

That's a failure of the board, not Rodgers. Don't know if Osmand can still go on on loan to Scottish Championship clubs in those partnership deals or if that option is completely shut off until the but I'd realistically say that's his level now. He's more a B Team player now than a first team player.

Inamura could still feature between now and January. He's already had 1 start but we know how injury prone Tierney is and how much of a wildcard Saracchi is so chances could come.

You seem to going around from thread to thread accusing our manager of deliberately spiking the careers of our players in a fit of petulance which I think is the wildest of takes.

 

No doubt he'll want away asap as maybe realising he made a mistake coming up here. Definitely has curtailed his progress..

Any youth player who joins this club needs their head examined. Unsure why any agent would allow it.

I'm not sure we can get him in one of the partnership teams, if we can send him there and get a better loan off the back of that in January. I would have thought a lower SPL team would have taken him to be honest.

Will take a lot of injuries for him to get game time. As Inheacho, Maeda, Kenny and Shin are all ahead of him. So you'd need 3 or 4 injuries here before he appears.

 

I'd play him wide before Yang and certainly in front of Kenny who has done nothing at all to impress

Looked sharp/quick in the admittedly very short appearance preseason.

 

He's went from playing in PL2, which is a very decent standard to now being classed as a b team player playing against students and amateurs.

They guys at a crucial stage of his development as is Pusey and Inamura and they are getting zero game time and missing out on much needed playing time at a good level.

Fair enough Pusey isn't out player so I'm not overly concerned but it's not a good look and doesn't help the reputation of the club.

Put it this way, if city have the next Paddy Roberts on their books you can bet your * he won't be getting loaned to us.

Rodgers has no interest in developing "club signings" bcoz he's working on short term so these guys will now stagnate for a year.

 

He's so far down the pecking order now, I think he is going to disappear into obscurity. The very little I have seen of him, has given me doubts already, that he is ever going to make it here, looks way short of technique, game awareness and balance. I don't think Rodgers has the time, patience or inclination now to coach young proteges like Osmand.

 

Has he ever?

He's now into his 6th season here. How many young guys like this has he brought through in that time?

 

He's 19, any 19 year old with good game awareness would likely be taken by a wealthier club than us. His goal record in PL2 tells me there is something to work with. I think we should be getting him a loan in January. I can imagine a team in our league who might be desperate for goals would take him.

 

I said at the time it was an absolute joke how they treated signing this kid like it was a proper signing. Guy's never played senior-level football. Come on.

It's one of these where we scouted a promising youth player and brought him in with no real plan. He probably thought he'd be the next MOR and wanted to fight it out here for the open striker spot rather than going out on loan.

There's a massive disconnect between what we sign and what the manager wants. Clearly. You don't need to look too much farther than that for the problem.

 

Agree completely with you apart from the “what the manager wants”. This I believe is completely unrealistic for us.

whilst we could probably afford one or two of the signings he wants. The names we were linked with at the beginning of the window ended up going for £20 mil+.

under this board we would never pay that and probably for good reason. The absolute calamity this board then went on to do is unforgivable but that’s a separate point.

Rodgers in his own words is a manager who gets the best out of players and develops youth. Surely he should be doing that with what we have available? Hes not been backed but he absolutely should be improving players here already. Feel like we’re regressing.

so there is a huge disconnect like you say. But I feel there needs to be realism from both sides and to meet in the middle OR Rodgers to actually trust the scouts sometimes can find players in the bargain category from leagues he doesn’t know of.
