Statistics show he has been good mate. He has had far more good or steady games than bad. In his three seasons with us he has been among the highest rated defenders in the league.

I’m not opposed to upgrading on him, the same way i would try to improve on any other position, but in no way is he a bad defender or has ever really let us down.

If you can’t respect him as a player at least credit his attitude. In spite of all the criticism he receives, he has never hid and always goes about his business with a good attitude and you can tell what being at Celtic means to him when he speaks

Liam Scales may show well for certain things.

But lets look at when he concede goals. There is argument we won so who cares, but still the wider point here is that it is through Scales the goals occur.

4-1 Falkirk, Falkirk are on the ball Scales is on, Adams is played in and Scales is practically 1v1 with him, no effort, no tackle, already in the box and trying to show Adams to the byline, Scales gets wrong footed and Adams scores.

Cup final for Aberdeen equaliser, this one is contentious as Im sure there is a lot of different opinions, but Morris buts the ball in, perhaps there is a call from the keeper but Scales is the CB best placed to have dealt with the ball and was in two minds what to do, seems like he was going to stick his foot out and try and get to the ball but withdraws and then somehow by some freak accident it ends up an OG by Kasper - point being here for me, is again, a lack of effort on the part of Scales to make any effort to stop a ball.

St mirren 1-1 Scales heads the ball into the path of Ayunga, making probably the most difficult option as hes jumping backwards to head into that directon meaning there is * all strength in the header.

1-1 With the huns, gets bullied by dessers, strong armed away and dessers scores - in that game is also regularly high and out of position, loses Balogun during a corner who ends up getting a free header only for Sinisalo to pull off a strong save, then caught again not long after out of high and out of position, leaving CCV and Ralston trying to cover allowing Cerny to get off a shot and again well saved by Sinisalo.

I could go on through past results and im sure this won't move the needle really because minds on a forum aren't made for changing, but Scales should be someone we are looking to improve on as defensively historically, hes far more shakey and mistake prone than any other CB

Trying to put that Aberdeen goal on Scales is wild.

Really easy to cherry pick games where individual responsible for goals- could compose a rap sheet for AJ recently

I've always said we can improve on him but there's no denying he's started the season well.

In essence, he is a decent defender. Just find him a bit infuriating and robotic on the ball. But he's also asked to do a lot as CCV does very little progression with it.

I'd like to see JSP after the international break.

CCV been guilty of a few mistakes in big games for us recently as well mate. Doesn’t feature in your agenda though.

I’m still a CCV fan and both he and Scales are the best centre backs we have.

CCV has his own mistakes but not as frequent or costly and with it being recent as well, falling at a time nearly everyone in the squad is failing is more a testament to coaching and the sheer mess behind the scenes the club is.

Overall throughout the course of last season, CCV has been more reliable and we've missed him more when he's out.

No doubt ccv and Scales may be the best we have, but we could do better than Scales, just like we could do better than Taylor, Ralston and similar players
