Brendan Rodgers Discussion Thread

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Lewis Kerr, Jun 19, 2023.

  1. He may not want change formation/shape, but surely he's good to enough to know, he doesn't have the players to play his preferred formation.

To carry on regardless is negligent as well. He had all summer to work.on alternative set ups.

  2. It's hard to say our defence was good when Kairat did the square root of * all going forward. They played for penalties*. Their only chances came from our mistakes. Such as sloppy passing around the back or McGregor's weird backpass.

    * You could tell by their reaction after extra time. They were pumped for it. We looked dejected. Rodgers seemed to do nothing to get everyone going.

  3. Thing that gets me is the no plan B, we have (although several injured/not full fit or not int he door yet) plenty players that can cross a good ball in, why not get a massive penalty box target man.

Years ago Spain under Del Bosque would use Llorente when needing goals as a plan B, big tall * who was brilliant in the air and a poacher with little technical ability. We could easily have an option like that on our bench.

  4. There seems to be a thing with modern game that managers never deviate from how they demand the game be played.

But there has to be compromise and balance when coaching because the manager must know after seeing the players nigh every day in training what their strengths are and adjusting his ideology to meet somewhere in the middle and play to the squad strength as well.

Teams fail all to often when it is clear the manager never accounts for the talent hes coaching and ignores all the signs that he doesnt have the talent he requires to work how it wants them to

  5. What would be the reaction do you think if he walked?

  6. I don’t think it would be targeted towards him, other than the usual group of fans who will attack him regardless.

There would likely be outrage at the board and validation that Rodgers has done everything he could have to get new signings.

Maybe I’m naive or expecting too much but that’s what I’d expect.

  7. I get where your coming from and there is no question we will face much sterner tests of our back line but equally we were fine defensively last night regardless of what it was we faced and have been for the most part over the 6 games we have played this season. Our main issues are and were last night in the attacking third.

  8. Yes i meant generally. Scales was pretty decent yesterday compar3d tp CCV

  9. I get the feeling our defence will ship plenty when faced with a team that has a bit of quality up front.

  10. We'll find out how good the defence is when Schemeichel's goal gets peppered on Sunday.

It's not the defence I am worried about, it's Schemeichel.

  11. If Schmeichel’s goal is getting peppered it would mean that defence you aren’t worried about aren’t doing their job.

  12. Not at all.

It will mean the midfield will be missing in action again, like they have been for the last three Hun games.

  13. Stick a man on mcgregor and apply a bit of pressure and i expect our defence to play plenty of suicide passes and cough the ball up in dangerous area. I dont think anything has changed there. CCV is actual probably regressing if anything

  14. Some people have never forgiven Rodgers and never will. To walk away mid season again would be double treachery in their eyes. Some of them still want to pin the blame on him when we all know who is responsible for last night and the other 6 recent times we have failed to navigate the qualifiers.

  15. He is a good coach but the biggest problem is no plan B, his arrogance will be his downfall.

  17. Feels like we’ve been here before plenty, but Sunday really is massive now. They’re literally on their knees so play well, beat them while getting a few in (on top of the left back and Balikwisha) and all of a sudden we seem like we’re in a slightly better place. It won’t make up for an absolute * show of a summer but it’ll make things slightly better.

Look at the state of them ffs, a loss on Sunday will be a much, much worse result than last night.

  18. Can we force Brendan to do a short-term internship with the Brugge manager?

I've calmed down a bit after seeing them getting gubbed again. I said I would. :giggle1:

TBH Club Brugge are a great team with a fantastic manager in Nicky Halen, he's engineered a 9-1 routing of Rangers over two legs, some going, should we be interested ?

I would bite your hand off now for a draw on Sunday, would keep our six point lead intact.
