We couldn't sign him 12 month ago as he got injured their first game of last season and out to march then got 7 G/A in 10 games

    another thing

They’ve told us he’ll come here if we make the CL group stage

This is a panic buy - 100% about that.

Not good enough is my opinion.

Chased him for over a year. Was even stories last year that him and Rodgers spoke then he got injured.

It's the complete opposite of a panic buy, its likely one Rodgers has wanted all summer but due to his contract situation that fat * Lawwell has thought he could shaft Antwerp out of their asking fee and as per usual he's failed and now he's having to go back with his tail between his legs and pay the exact fee he was quoted 2 months ago.

This isn't a panic buy this is a shinning example of how much of a * useless, out of date * Lawwell is.

Nowhere near first choice but has somehow become the only choice.
    Poorly executed recruitment, as usual.

However, we can't saddle this lad with all the other baggage - let's get behind him and hope he's a decent player.

How do you know? We seem to have been after him for 2 years. We was dead certs last year until he injured himself. That would suggest he was first choice to me.

I don't think someone we've scouted for at least 12 months can be considered a panic buy.

I'm no chuffed with our approach to things so far but I think that's jumping to conclusions.

A panic buy, is signing Lagerbielke because Starfelt had the same agent and we hadn't scouted a replacement, properly.

I'm maybe giving our club too much credit here.

My assumption (as you say, no one knows, which is part of the problem) is that if he was first choice and he wanted to come he'd already be signed - weeks ago, like Nygren.
We knew Jota was out, we knew Kuhn was gone - so it's not like the need wasn't clear?
The relatively low fee hasn't shifted, his club have clearly made him available.
But this Celtic, we make the easy look impossible.

Now, maybe it's just Celtics legendary procrastination and micro haggling that's the issue.
    Maybe it's the fitness concerns?
Maybe it's the fact he plays at #10 and not wide (this season) - is he a natural winger?
Maybe he's been hesitant to come to Scotland.

It just feels like he dropped way down the list of previous season's targets for this window and now that everyone else above him is unavailable and we are now desperate, we've gone back in.
And/Or he's now willing in the absence of anything better.
But, yes - you and I will never know the true situation.

None of whatever it is, feels good.
But as mentioned, let's just hope he's a good player.

Yes but we've had stories it was held up on there side? Now its suddenly going through when they've announced a winger.. coincidence? I mean its how we should be run but still :56:

I do believe he was first choice. Our clubs no got a plan b or other option, we're no that organised.

I think there are different definitions of panic buys, to be fair.

I think we panicked when Kyogo went down holding his shoulder and the following week we had signed Idah for £9m. I think we panicked there and paid a ridiculously high price that we never planned on paying.

I think this situation is kinda similar. We have scouted him for a year but we've went through nearly 3 windows without signing him and now, after a really poor game in the play-off, we agree a fee that was around the same price we could have gotten him for 6 weeks ago. I see there may be extenuating circumstances, like him holding up the deal over personal terms or whatever but that doesn't or shouldn't take 6 weeks to resolve. It smacks of us wanting to wait for other players before committing to buying him and we've blinked because the board are beginning to see the fan base really, properly turn on them and we are unbeaten in the league, still have a chance at getting Champions League football and Rangers have had an awful start. Things should be rosy and yet, they're not.

That's the premier league squads starting to take shape. Akanji and Gundogan told they can leave City. Not positions we need but if Rodgers has been wanting experienced players from that market then they should be starting to become available.
