It's not really. It's normal for a 3rd choice to be an academy player

 

It is a mess. He was gonna go on loan, now our overplayed top right back is out for months, leaving Tony Ralston and Donovan for the first half of the season..

 

It's unfortunate but I don't think it's a mess. I think Ralston is a decent backup and Donovan was the best of our youngsters in pre season for me. We might sign someone if the injury is really bad though

 

Colby if he does stay is a very good backup option

 

If JSP can cover RB then I'd be tempted to still loan him out, some proper game time would probably be more valuable for him.

Just don't confirm it until after the qualifier.

 

Nah JSP’s not a right back. If we have absolutely no full backs that can deputise as a ralston fill in for 30 mins then we might as well just fold the academy

I’m saying with you asking if JSP can fill in there bud. As in, if Donovan is no good….or even if Donovan goes out on loan and we don’t have any other full backs as adequate back ups. Then might as well chuck it in that case.

tbf too KT wasn’t even the best academy full back at the time when he came on the scene. Dreamland stuff here hahah but hopefully someone appears from no where and performs!

Looked decent enough during pre-season but would have liked to have seen him in a SPFL game at least before this situation. Some risk.

Ralston picks up a knock and he could be playing EL and games against the huns, hearts, hibs ....

Might work out another KT situation but could end up another Adam Montgomery situation.

 

I’ll always be thankful Tyler Blackett and Ambrose were injured, who were the choices before KT then, for that game against Fenerbache. KT bitched Van Persie then Nani, being targeted as the youngster thrown in. Made the record amount of tackles in the Europa that game.

And never looked back.

That and him being left behind dropped by the youth teams, and the only guy around to make up the numbers for first teams training, and making the most of that opportunity. Some great careers only happen with a stroke of luck man

Where Celtic send their young players on loan says a lot about what they think of their potential. That couldn’t be truer in the case of Colby Donovan.

Heavily involved with the first team in pre-season, it has been difficult for the 18-year-old to break into the side since Alistair Johnston returned late for the new campaign.

With the reliable and experienced Anthony Ralstonalso ahead of Donovan, he is being lined up for a loan move in the Scottish Premiership this season.

He is viewed as a future first-team defender by some at Lennoxtown. The fact that he is set to join a top-flight side for his first loan without even making a senior Celtic appearance says a lot about his potential.

However, Johnston’s recent hamstring injury could yet impact whether Celtic sanction the move in the short term if more cover is needed.

Forgot he wasn’t out on loan yet, may be a massive opportunity for him.

I have got young Colby Donovan who is a young player here who has really impressed me over the time I've been back.


"In this last 12 months he has made great strides.

 

Ralston we know isn’t good enough, hopefully this boy is and takes his chance.

 

Hopefully has a KT esque rise here and develops in to a proper player for us.
