Champions League Celtic v Kairat Almaty Wednesday August 20th kick off 8PM TNT Sports 1

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Notorious, Aug 15, 2025.

  1. Said last night that we were out - that was said in total frustration. We're anything but out.

Going to require plenty of energy, running, and a bit of incisiveness in the final third next week. But beating Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan isn't something that's beyond even this group of players.

I would expect us to continue having plenty of the ball and would hope we can exploit them in behind a bit more as they'll be coming at us to take advantage of the game being at their place.

Big, big afternoon brewing on Tuesday and I'm actually quite excited for it.

Board are a shambles for this even being competitive.

Least it kicks off at quarter to 6 so I'll have the rest of my night to moan when one of their random Brazilians scores the third.

Me too. I might not be popular but I think KT now looks out of place. He's a good player I won't deny. I don't think Hatate and Calmac look right either :56:The whole team seems out of sync and the only ones shining are the unpopular ones who just try to doggedly stick to their task like Scales and Yang!

    There you go.

YOU warned everyone. Makes you all happy. Proved my point thanks.

  5. We need to change our set-up for next week! Get away from our current set-up. for which we don’t have the wide players.

We need to be set-up to frustrate the Kazachs.

    Schmeichel

    KT. scales. CCV. Trusty. Ralston

    Calmac. Engels

    Hatate. Nygren

    Maeda

    Idah

Low block, low pressing and quick break-out. Idah needs help of Maeda. I put Idah in it, since we wont start with anyone else… its never going to happen though, we will play the same system for which we dont have the players…

They are *. I wasn't wrong. Now back in your we plastic box.

  8. The sub keeper looked fairly ropey too, if it's him next week Engels should be starting for the deliveries alone

  9. A lot of people say Rodgers is a quality manager but we looked absolutely clueless last night. It obviously doesn't help that we have players who just aren't up to the standards required but It was obvious from the start that we needed to shift the ball much quicker and match their energy as our build up was painfully slow and predictable and, knowing Rodgers, he won't change tactics for the return leg.

Biggest bonus for us is they're missing their best player for next week, Satpaev out suspended which is huge.

Id be shocked if their Goalkeeper makes it too, looked a bad one.

I think as long as Rodgers changes it a bit up top I am confident. Start Nygren on the right, Yang in the left, Maeda up top and put one of Engels/McCowan in midfield.

They were absolutely knackered after 30 minutes, if we get to half time 0-0 or better I think we'll go through.

  12. It's not as if we peppered their goal with efforts last night either. Too many players were incredibly lazy last night

  13. To be fair though Scales was the better of the two last night, Trusty is not the answer either but the fact Rodgers think Scales is better and is proving that with his performance means we do have issues at the back.

But that’s not the priority at the moment for me it’s the middle of the park and final third.

For years we gambled with our back four and now it’s changed to the final third.

  14. The tie isn’t over, but I’m struggling to give a * any more.

The deep rooted issues at our club won’t be going away, even if we can scrape by this mob on Tuesday.

I think people still underestimate how bad we are even after last night. Our best attacker is our best left winger, who is also our best striker, who struggles to trap the football and pass it 10 yards at times.

The game is obviously winnable, more so because of how gash they are than anything to do with us, but if I had to bet my last tenner I know where it would be going.

Early goal for them, and another to kill it just after half time. Seen it all before.

  15. The other worry is that it goes to extra time or penalties, we then get put out and get beat by the Huns because the players are done in…

Shame there isn’t one person at board level that had the level of foresight that us common scum on the forums have though eh? Team has been on absolute fumes since the tail end of last season and everybody could see it.

Rodgers might have wanted idah and kyogo but the board had other intentions

Rodgers wanted idah so they got him they also knew kyogo wanted away so they sold him and bought Jota, the board thinks they done brilliant they weren't looking for a kyogo replacement, downsize if you will.

There * mate they don't deal with the manager fairly they probably promised him the earth knowing they wouldn't change and would * him later

  17. Canny stand watching Idah for another minute. Utterly * useless.

  18. I’m genuinely not arsed either way about next week. If we get through we will be punchbags in the CL. We won’t spend the money we earn from it anyway, and it just puts a sticky plaster over the gaping wound. If we win, we win, if we lose, so be it. It won’t make one iota of difference.

  19. Thats 12 players you’ve fielded mate and I still wouldn’t be confident with it.
