Celtic have recruited seven players this summer, paying fees for Benjamin Nygren, Hayato Inamura, Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand, with Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan arriving on frees and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan.

Only Nygren and Tierney started on Wednesday, while the likes of Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi who starred in the Champions League last term have been sold and not replaced, while Jota is out injured long term.

"We need to improve the squad," Rodgers said. "There's been clarity around that for a long time. Supporters see that. Hopefully between now and the end of the season, the club will get that and that will support us.

"It's not my decision in the end. I can prepare the players that are here. We are all clear on where we need to improve, and for whatever reason we haven't been able to do that.

"We're in this position, we have to accept that and not dwell on it, and try and come through it.

"There's only so many ways that I can dress up that we don't have the players here.

"It was pretty clear. You don't need to look into the future too far. You know these games are tough and you want to have players in as quick as you can to tackle thesesituations. It is what it is. I have to accept where it's at."

Even if we bring some proper quality in, and I doubt we will, the damage has been done. The board have sabotaged the playing squad, poisoned the relationship with the fans and seriously pi**ed-off the manager. All before the end of August.

Same too mate. Sick as a parrot.
If we go out, our season will be wrecked before it's even started.

How did it come to this ?

    * every one of the roasters in our support that continually attempt to justify the deliberately executed managed decline of our football club.

There’s been plenty of the “it’s not that easy, do you think we’re playing football manager?” creeps on here over the years.

Every one of you are complicit in this.

Maribor, Legia Warsaw, Ferencvaros, Malmo, Artmedia Bratislava, Cluj, AEK Athens, Midtjylland, probably Kairat Almaty.

An absolutely * shameful list of * who have brushed us aside in these CL qualifiers in recent years under the control of the decrepit old * in the boardroom.

Hundreds of millions of pounds, and huge opportunity for development * away due to * levels of mismanagement.

A complete and utter waste of potential.

In 5-10 years when Celtic are an even more of an irrelevance in European football than we are now and with no feasible way back, with smaller but better run clubs overtaking us, we’ll look back at this time as the final nail in the coffin.

We’re another Steaua Bucharest or Red Star Belgrade in the making.

Waste of potential. The first thing that I think of when I hear the name Celtic. Sad.

Our transfer strategy seems to be:
    • Take a few cheap punts early in the window
    • Look to sign successful loans to permanent deals mid window
    • Hold off on the scouted expensive signings until late in the window
    • Grab what's left over at the end of the window - mostly loans
When we've got CL qualifiers we end up with major holes in the squad and it comes back to bite us.

We've all heard it's difficult to sign in-demand players earlier in the window. So whats the solution? I'm thinking we need to cast the scouting net wider, approach players early in the window and let them know that if an agreement can't be made quickly, we'll be moving on to our next target. If you're not convinced about joining Celtic, we don't need you.

Damage will be done if we go out next week.

Even if we don't, I'm struggling to really care. They'll do it all again next year under a new manager.

We are all fannies on a football forum and 95% of us seen this coming. Go figure.

The same roasters will be out in force in the coming days harping on about domestic dominance as a way of defending the board.

95% could run the club better working a ten hour week.

    I'm not exaggerating there either.
