I’m not against signing him. I just think we could do better for the money with proper scouting. We should be trying to rival Feyenoord for players, not take their players who they don’t give a sniff too.

    Dutch press reporting it

Celtic has contacted Calvin Stengs's management, according to various Scottish media outlets. The 26-year-old left-footer appears to be out of contention at Feyenoord under Robin van Persie.

Stengs made several appearances during Feyenoord's pre-season. However, he didn't play a single minute in the first four official matches.

The eight-cap Dutch international is under contract at De Kuip until mid-2027. Stengs is one of Feyenoord's top earners, making a departure not unthinkable.

Transfermarkt still values Stengs at €7 million. However, it remains to be seen whether Feyenoord will actually receive that amount for him.

Celtic have reportedly approached Team Raiola to discuss a possible transfer, but Feyenoord has not yet heard anything from the Scottish top club.

Celtic's interest in Stengs is serious, although his injury history is reportedly raising doubts.

Feyenoord acquired Stengs from OGC Nice in the summer of 2023 for €6 million. He scored 9 goals and provided 21 assists in 59 official matches.

Quite the fall from grace for Stengs if he is one of their top earners. Given his current status and injury issues though I doubt they will be getting 6-8m euro for him. They will be doing well to get back the 6m euro they originally paid for him and getting a higher earner off the books.
As much as we badly need at least one if not 2 wingers in I really don't think this looks like a good option for us unless the player is willing to take lower wages and Feyenoord lowers their asking price.

On a loan to buy 100% take.

I don't see us buying him outright given the injuries.

Tbh, if we can get him back to his best (we have the perfect manager for it) then its a no brainer.

Have a friend who is a huge Feyenoord fan. He said he was a great player but has never been the same since his injury.

*, that’s put the breaks on my joy that. I was all for this but never knew of any injuries.

Anytime I’ve seen him, he’s been quality. He would suit us perfectly as well.

If injuries has * him though, stay away. Particularly if it’s been him struggling for fitness. If he’s stayed fit and healthy though, it’s probably worth it for me thinking on it. It’s a gamble still but without that dip in him, we don’t come into the equation to get him at all

Seems hes not really that injury prone, he done his ACL when he was 18 and was out 14 month which seems a long time.

But since then it's really only since he joined Feyenoord he's been injured a lot, seems he injured his knee near the end of his first season with them, had knee surgery that kept him out 3 month of the next season, then returned but then in January got injured and ended up out the rest of the season.

So it's only really 2/3 injuries but basically meant he's only been fit for about 3 months since March 2024.

But before that he barely had an injury the first 5/6 years of his career. Pretty much never missed a game from 2019-2024.

Missed 41 games the 2 seasons he's been at Feyenoord which is probably like 40% of their games but only really been from 3 incidents.

36 goals and 52 assists in 203 games for Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar and Antwerp. Probably would do really well for us with stats like that in similar Leagues for similar teams, assists really impressive.

If he’s one of feyenoords top earners has to be on 40-50k? Sem steijn they’ve just signed, managed to get him ahead of premier league clubs who start with that kind of wage as back pocket change. He won’t come cheap if we want him.

not a wise move this I don’t think

I’m sure when he was 18 then done his ACL he was supposed to be going or was assumed to be an option they were looking at his development of for Bayern Munich.

Like @Mr Shelby says, a loan with an option would be perfect. Most likely what the board would be after too.

He could turn out to be a Jota type revelation on loan then we pull the trigger.

Or he could get smoked in his first tumble at tannadice, and spend 5 months in the physio room with KT, watching Ice Age 3 on an ipad.

If we were to fork out the reported fee and he gets a bad one it would really Steng.

I would usually agree with that in a deal like this, it’s the perfect example of when we should as long as the fee is set in stone.

This summer though, I think we need to commit to it. Our incoming fees and add ons from the likes of Frimpong dwarfs the outlay it would take we would still be in profit without touching the dragon hoard in the bank, but the feeling around the club regarding transfers just now a loan would be viewed very negatively, not galvanise the fanbase and will be viewed as a panic loan and more proof of being unwilling to show any ambition.

On a permanent it’s a big outlay, for a guy who’s shown quality, us backing it with money we’ve been unwilling to spend and it will galvanise the support.

We still come out the window well in profit regardless, but there’s a purge on a lot of negativity. We need a statement not the cautious approach.

Might be because I’ve caught him playing a handful of times and he’s been quality in them all, which is a small amount to judge in the long run but it shows commitment to the fans.

If we do a loan signing unsure if he’s worth the outlay, for a 26 year old with a wealth of games to judge from and 38 year old Vardy, the negativity around everything will plunge further.

Saying that, if it’s a loan or * all I’ll say loan definitely but ideally, we need something to make a statement. The feeling around the club is very low. A couple injuries or 1/2 bad results, it’ll be near enough open revolt

If we get him and another winger - i.e. Balikwisha, then it's ideal. This guy has a higher ceiling and Balikwisha can cover him & Maeda incase of injuries

Only issue is Balikwisha is also injury prone
