Doak never had a professional contract with us, so we don't have a sell on %. He also didn't move internationally as Liverpool to Bournemouth is a domestic transfer. So we're not due anything. The Sun are just outright lying.

His fee when going to Liverpool was determined by a tribunal and they can award a % of future sales as part of the agreement. This happened in the Barron to Rangers deal.

I hadn’t heard of this before either but it seems like it would have been possible.

The £600k fee is the standard compensation fee set by FIFA for signings of this nature.

Zero reports from 2022, when Doak joined Liverpool, mention a tribunal.

    We're not due a thing.

So I don’t know if we have a sell on or not but it’s not a standard price compensation it depends on if the player has made first team appearances etc, as long as we offered Doak a contract, Celtic and Liverpool would have had to either agree a fee themselves or a tribunal would set that fee like in the case of Barron to Rangers or involving Liverpool Harvey Elliott when they got him from Fulham.

Doak moving from us to Liverpool is an international transfer, not a domestic one, so FIFA's compensation rule kicks in automatically. Barron moving to Rangers was a domestic transfer so the rules are different (same thing as Harvey Elliot to Fulham).

A dispute can be sorted by tribunal across associations. The link below says so, if the clubs don’t agree they can be requested to help determine a fee.

In addition we would have been due training compensation given we trained him from 12-16 so 4 of his 7 years so we would be due in the region of 2.9% of his fee regardless of sell on or not which wouldn’t be 7 figures but closer to £550-600k.

A tribunal can still be involved in cross border fees but you are right that the fee awarded has lower criteria applied.

    What link?
Even so, there was no report of a tribunal at the time.

Sorry link must have been deleted it was here https://inside.fifa.com/legal/football-tribunal one of the last bullet points under the Dispute Revolution chamber.

Regardless we will have received something under the training compensation scheme. Exactly how much I am estimating as it seems very difficult to calculate. It will likely not be 7 figures.

On whether it was a tribunal or not we probably wouldn’t hear much about that anyway as a lot of these deals are determined by that. Dembele when we signed him we had to pay around £1m in compensation to Fulham where as Liam Shaw cost us about £250k. Vata we only got about £250k but Doak we got £600k so there must have been some negotiation whether it was just the clubs agreeing or a tribunal.

I see people saying we’ve made around £1m from his transfer. Think that’s on the high side really, but I imagine it’s enough that our boards said ok we have Vardy’s wage covered now can talk to him Brodge :56:

Think the million claim is made up though, I think it’s 2.5% the development club gets. I don’t know if us already getting some compensation for him effects that though. It’s very murky the rules around it and changes due to a lot of different factors as well.

Think the last I looked into it though was when Beerschot thought they were due more for Wanyama’s sale to Spurs. They may have been in administration at that time if I remember right, with my unreliable memory
