Note: Brendan Rodgers started Anthony Ralston against PSG as a teenager.

Looked excellent on the ball but very ropey defensively and very likely highlighted just as much in training..

 

Just further evidence of managed decline. Gamble on Inamura making it, told to get on with Scales as a back up LB.

 

So we are buying 23 year olds as development projects. We now have him and Montgomery on the books who are not good enough as back up LB

 

Yep, a waste of money and effort.

At least an explanation.

Would have liked to see him against better opposition to judge for ourselves.
But in Rodgers we trust and he sees him every day of course.

Brendan Rodgers insists he had to leave Hayato Inamura out of his European squad because the defender is not ready to cut it against the cream of the continent.


The Japanese ace impressed in pre-season as a back-up left back but has yet to feature for the Hoops in Scotland this season.



Rodgers left the 23-year-old signing from Albirex Nigata out of his 26-man squad list for the Champions League play-off clash with Kairat Almaty.



Asked how hard a decision it was to leave him out, the manager said: "Yeah, very easy. He's not quite at the level, as of yet, that I would expect. The plan for Ina was to come in and train and see where he was at, with the possibility of going out and loan, because he's only had a year's football.



He came in as a centre-half/left-back, but his defensive qualities aren't at the level that would see me put him in against Lamine Yamal if I had to.

“So it's as simple as that. So that's why he's not involved.


He's played in some really good games, against Cork and Queen's Park, but the reality is that's the level that we play – you get 80 percent of the ball and you've got the ball, but we also make a player that can defend.

“And we're hoping that over the couple of years, with experience and with maybe a loan, that that can take place.


But at this very, very moment, that's why he's not in the squad. It's as simple as that.”

 

Feel it was a bit unfair to talk like he didn't also play very well against better teams than Cork and Queens Park

Maybe been poor in training though so fair enough

 

You have to think hes been poor in training, otherwise I think its a bit strange to not give him any minutes the previous 3 games.

Pretty much makes LB a priority now, alongside a LW, RW and a ST.

 

Thought he looked very decent in pre season as well Seems like Brendans made his mind up on this one already

 

I’m glad am no the only one that thinks Brendan’s a bit flawed at times
