Hes only 38! Loads of years left at the top of the game!

    Napoli want him! (No sniggering)

And 1 goal per 3.5 hours of football for a * EPL club works out at 16.5 goals every 4 minutes for us in the SPL! Apparently.

Get on board fella! Jaime * Vardy is ooor new Joe Hart! Were gonna love him!

    * me, this place .

    No it means he's 39 in 5 months. That doesn't mean 40.

    Details matter.

I am livid about it. I have even said that the board should get assaulted in the stands tomorrow.

BUT, Vardy is still 20x better than any striker we have, he can still play 90 mins and his speed is still 35,44kmh. Faster than all our players, Maeda included.

    Great player, terrible board

    *?!

    Oh dear.

All the things i said mustve been really incorrect, or offensive. Or both!

    Im so sorry. Sincerely mate.

I promise I won't mention any negatives about this signing again whatsoever.

Youre free to be happy and enjoy the rise of Jaimie Vardy, Celtic Striker of the Future, without any of the obvious criticisms about this deal being made which apparently make you so uncomfortable.

You have my word. Ill clap my hands and thank the Lord for the Vardy, The Son, and The Holy Honda.

    Enjoy the hype brother. Xo.

Shouldn't even be considering this player ffs. 39. Your telling me there isnt a 25 year old striker out there about 7 million and with goals in him. Board has * me off now and I'm ever the optimist

How are you at playing as a lone striker?

I think the reason people aren't treating this with sheer outrage is a combination of two things really - apathy and the fact he would likely be a really good signing for the short-term.

Let's talk about the first part. We've gone through disappointment after disappointment in the transfer windows historically. Ange's first summer was beautiful, but outside of that we've gotten used to key positions not being covered. We've become accustomed to being weaker than when we went into windows in the hope that one of our lower-cost signings can just turn into a superstar.

Because of that, we're resigned to it happening again this time. We all hope we sign 5 more players before the transfer window deadline. Will we? No chance, and we all know this. It'll be about 3 max. 2 wingers? You'll have to settle for 1. Centre-back? Wouldn't hold your breath. Left-back? Same thing again.

But what can we as fans actually do about it? I don't buy any Celtic merchandise and seldom go to games either anymore. I've long since been priced out and don't really feel the board have earned what we're now charging to go to matches either. I'm not prepared to do any more than that. Not when we have a board that shows absolutely no plan to progress the club and make it as big as it can be. The reason the apathy is there now is because we simply can't really do much else as a support. We can't "force them out" because there will never be a united conjoined effort to stay away from games or club merch etc.

So we effectively at this stage just take what we can get.

That's where the good signing part comes in. Vardy would do well up here. He would likely get us the goals we need to win the league and hopefully a treble in Scotland. He's an upgrade on our £9m centre-forward. And even though we would likely only get two years out of him - it's not far off the same amount of time we got out of Joe Hart, Matt O'Riley etc. If we only got 2 years from Vardy, or * it even one year, that's enough to potentially bring 3 more trophies to the club and share some great moments along the way.

It says absolutely nothing positive about the club's forward-planning. But it's been clear for long enough now that Celtic aren't looking to "build" a squad for Brendan Rodgers. He's out the door next summer because there's absolutely no progression in what we're watching year on year. It's difficult to see what the club is trying to do or what areas we're keen to heavily invest in for the manager.

So I think fans are just looking at this for what it provides the team. And that's a pretty effective goalscorer at this level. When it comes to the bigger picture regarding our recruitment strategy? We know it's abysmal - but literally what can we do? Stage protests? Does * all man. The board doesn't care.

    Reg Vardy and Ted Rodgers..

    Of course there is…

It’s just that they don’t give a *. They’ve got the ST money.. a waiting list.. fans who will buy every shirt and every bit of merch no matter what the plc does or doesn’t do.

Iron clad Teflon coated ‘don’t give a fuckery’ at its finest.

I think this post hits the nail on the head.

Is it a panic signing? 100%

Is it Lazy and uninspired? 100%

Is it indicative of our board's recruitment policy that its taken us until the end of August to (potentially) sign a 38 year old striker we likely could have got back in July? 100%

However, will he come up here and do a good (potentially great) job with us? 100%

He got 9 goals and 4 assist for a * Leicester team last year, I think he's easily got another year or two in him.

Vardy is a waste of money when we already signed Yamada. So is JSP on loan if Murray will get game time.
