Two Celtic players move to the southern city on loan

Admira strengthens its squad with two promising talents from Celtic Glasgow: Matthew Anderson and Ben Summers come to the southern city.

While Anderson was already on loan for the Lower Austrians last season and impressed with strong performances on the left wing, attacking midfielder Ben Summers is now also joining Admira. Both players are expected to join the team on Thursday, as Anderson is currently still playing for the Scottish U21 national team.

Admira's sporting director Peter Stöger was optimistic about the new signings: "Matthew and Ben are two highly talented players who have gained experience at a high level at a young age. Matthew showed us what he is capable of last season and we are happy to have him back with us. Ben brings a breath of fresh air to the attacking midfield and will give us new options in shaping the game. We are convinced that both players will take our team significantly further this season."

Would’ve liking anderson to get an spfl loan but atleast he’ll get minuted there. Still a decent level for him to be playing at tbf. Good move for summers and keeps the partnership sweet

Not entirely sure this was a positive move for Anderson. Would've prefered a loan to either an SPFL team or down south somewhere, as going back to where he has already done well - is still going back to a team in the Austrian 2nd Division. Of course the caveat in all of that is that, once no other loan opportunities materialized, it was either to play with the Celtic B team in the Lowlands league or go back out to Admira and play football. So in that regards, good for him. Hope he does as well this season as he did last.

Also Summers did reasonably well with Dunfermline (I think it was last season), so going out and playing football is always better at a higher level than the Lowlands league is, and it underlines that connection with the 2 clubs once again, so there are positives to take from this news.

    Have a great season, lhads.

I think it is fantastic that we have partnerships like this. I would prefer if we had it with a League 2 club in england or even national league. I think we should have that kind of partnership with 2-3 clubs so we could loan out more playes.

13 games into the season and they’re 5 points clear at the top. Be great for all parties if they got promoted back to the top tier again. Be great for the two lads summers and Anderson to be a part of the promotion aswell

Send Daniel Cummings over to see if he can help fire them to the title.

Not a bad shout, is there a limit on how many we can send to one club or anything? Depends whether they’d be keen also but I’d imagine they would be

    From the Celtic Way

What's happening with Celtic's Admira Wacker partnership?
Celtic formed a development partnership with fallen Austrian giants Admira Wacker two years ago. Matthew Anderson and Tobi Oluwayemi then immediately joined the club on one-year loan deals. The former made the Austrian second-tier team of the season for 2023/24 after scoring one goal and assisting six in 21 league appearances.

Left-back Anderson returned to Admira for the 2024/25 campaign, with Ben Summers joining him. The pair impressed as Thomas Silberberger's side narrowly missed out on promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. Summers is now back at Celtic, whereas Anderson recently signed for Belgian second-tier outfit KV Kortrijk on a permanent deal.

It currently remains to be seen whether Celtic will send any youngsters out to Admira for the new season. It took until September 9 last year to finalise deals for Anderson and Summers to join the club on loan. Further, the introduction of co-operation agreements in Scottish football is unlikely to play into the Austrians' hands.

It is understood that Darren O'Dea was a big driver of the Admira deal, although he left Celtic earlier this summer. As a result, The Celtic Way reached out to Admira's newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Bernhard Schmidt, to ask if the partnership is still in place. No response was given.

It should be noted that in the two years prior, deals were announced in late August and early September, so there's still time for the clubs to announce another collaboration, despite the

Generally never seen the benefit of this.

Can't imagine 2nd tier Austrian football is the near way to prepare for our 1st team.

Happy enough if this is binned

It is good enough for Salzburg who send new players regularly to that level to play. I just don’t know we are very good at youth development.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be any real plans.

Matthew Anderson perfect example, talented, highly rated youth prospect. Went over there and done well, then came back and looked good preseason and then there was no plan for him so he ends up getting sent back over to play at the exact same level.

After the 1st year we should have been looking to get him and Spfl loan deal with view that if he did well he then is in position to be back up left back this season.

Even more so considering 1 of our left backs was leaving and other was on loan.

Totally mishandled his development and he ends up leaving for a nominal fee
