I think the idea is Welsh will go and Trusty if we can get a replacement in.

In terms of Youte we would be far better going for his centre back partner Sangante he is a good player and would suit our system.

Is it just me, or almost every * time we are linked with someone, someone on this site says, 'we'd be much better with such and such from the same * team?!'. Does my nut in.

Can our scouts not see this or are we always going for the cheap option, or do the posters on here just try and wind us up!? :D

Can’t speak for anyone else but only reason I flagged Sangante over Youte is they both play centre back for Le Harve and both are in the final year of their deals. Both similar ages and of similar values maybe Sangante €1m more or so. However, of the twos careers Sangante is club captain, is quick, is pretty good on the ball, can cover at full back and is basically a better defender.

    Watch much of Le Harve?

Followed this guy's career since he was U13s?

There’s zero CCV rumours. There nothing even suggesting he’s leaving.

    This guy isn’t his replacement.

Nah nah I get that, wasn’t having a go just that had never heard someone say that about CCV before. I think most teams just want athletic types like Vickers rather than traditional tall slow ones.

Aye there will definitely be interest but all signs kinda point to him wanting to stay for now at least.

Celtic are ‘well positioned’ in the race to sign French centre-back Etienne Youte this month, but will face strong competition from two European clubs, according to a new report.

Earlier this week, a report from France had claimed that head coach Brendan Rodgers was ready to rival both Anderlecht and Besiktas for the 23-year-old, who is out of contract at Stade Oceane next summer. The Hoops boss secured the season-long loan signing of Manchester City centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey just last week, though Celtic remain keen to bolster their options in defence ahead of the transfer window slamming shut on September 1.

A regular for Le Harve last year as they escaped relegation from Ligue 1 on the final day of the season, the player recently admitted that a move may be on the cards this summer, telling the French press: “I know now that I have to be patient before making a decision. For the moment, I'm here and I feel good within this group. I'm preparing for the season. If there are interesting offers for me and for the club, we will find an agreement together.

Youte, who joined the Inter Milan youth academy in 2019 after beginning his career with Troyes in the French second division, has also spent time with Greek Super League club Olympiacos, where he played regularly for their B team prior to his move to La Havre in 2023.

However, the Scottish champions interest has seemingly been confirmed by Italian transfer guru Rudy Galetti, told Betway.: “Celtic’s interest in Etienne Youte has been long-standing. The Scottish club has been tracking the Le Havre centre-back for over a month, with initial contact dating back to late June. The player is entering the final year of his contract with Le Havre, and for this reason, he can leave for around €5million (£4.3million). That is well below his market value due to his contract situation.

Besiktas are also interested in him, remaining in the race, and Anderlecht are also in the race, and this makes the situation more competitive and complex, for sure. At the moment, Youte's future is still undecided. Celtic are well-positioned in the race, but everything is still open. And the preference of the player and also an eventual offer on the table will make the difference in this deal

It's definitely a situation to keep an eye on in the coming days, and the competition remains fierce, and Celtic have to make the first move to anticipate the competition trying to trying to sign the Le Havre player.

Might actually be something in this … a lot of the players we’ve been going for have had 1 year left on their contract.

They'll be out of contract by the time we make an offer.

Could be Trusty could go, Birmingham lost 3 centre-backs from last season Sanderson, Hanley and Davies and have only added two so far a young guy from Brighton on loan and a free transfer from Germany.

Trusty was Birmingham POTY 2 years ago so probably highly regarded and might go back there with not being first choice here.

Playing Scales over him, shows somethings not right as i'd say he's definitely better than Scales.

Rather Trusty doesn't go but you'd imagine

Scales and JSP for the left in whatever order
Carter-Vickers and maybe likkle Youte for the right. Murray as the 5th option..

I can even see us losing CCV, but ONLY if a replacement is in first. I wouldn't want to lose him but I wouldn't be shocked.

Tracking him for a month. Can only see this if someone is going. CCV or Trusty.

Youte looks better to me, looking at their stats.

He gets dribbled past 4x less, commits 3x less fouls, loses the ball after his first touch 4x less, is slightly better in the air and Youte wasn't dispossesed of the ball once all season in the League in almost 2,400 minutes where as Sangante had the ball taken off him 7 times in almost half the playing time.

Youte also has the higher passing accuracy even though he passes more long balls.

Youte seems more the style of intercepting and stealing the ball biding his time, hardly ever fouling or tackling anybody, where as the other guy seems to steam into things more and do much more fouling, tackling and stuff probably more the style of Sviatchenko or Simunovic compared to Youte being more like Starfelt and Trusty.

Where are these CCV rumours coming from?

This isnt solely targeted at you, but there's been a quite a few people over the last week thinking CCV is away.

I think this guy would quite obviously be a replacement for Trusty, there's not been a single rumour linking CCV away.
