The guy who left because he was woefully out of his depth?

He was so good the board got rid of him because they were allergic to a well run system that was sourcing and signing strong talent, that included the hiring of Ange.

It’s only still worth following the club for reasons not related to contemporary football - be they fan culture, footballing history, non-footballing history and/or wider culture.

Despite a decade or so of heightened domestic success, some right good passages of play, and a handful or two of really good players, we still haven’t made the most - especially in Europe and vs the Huns (against whom we should be out of sight) - of the financial position we’re continuously in. We just do not function like a serious, modern football club.
On top of that, the manager, whom I have defended to the hilt, seems to refuse to call out the board on their transfer policy (if they even have one). Meanwhile, he’s playing his favourites over guys who are clearly better, and running McGregor into the ground in a position that - if we are all honest - has never fully suited him.

I was Taylor’s biggest critic, but end of the day, we have replaced a Scotland international with a J-League CB as our backup LB.
How long are we going to keep tolerating this?

The football-business culture stinks to high heaven, and has rotted away at the football departments. Following a team assembled with such *-hour wilful neglect is just not pleasurable or even worth it in a purely football-related sense.

At this stage, I’m just following us because it’s us, and I kind of can’t bring myself to not. But I’m otherwise more than done with having my support/passion abused by the board.

A lot of the time, the build up to Celtic games are a lot more exciting than the game itself

I think this is true regarding the vast majority of professional football teams. The bigger they are the more the rule applies.

Not being harsh or personal, mate, but if anyone can’t acknowledge that (beyond the general trend that you rightly note) there is a rottenness specific to our club’s boardroom culture, then that person is part of the problem imo.

I feel more or less the same way. The club does not act like a big club anymore - in fact, it doesn't even act like a mid-tier European club. It acts like an SPFL side. It bases its actions on what it takes to be competitive in a division that has declined drastically over the past thirty years.

Being top of the SPFL and only that is like being lord of the flies. It's like thrashing a toddler and never really attempting to play with the big kids. If Celtic wasn't * tattooed on my soul, I would not have any interest in what we're doing as a club. As a sporting organisation, I would hold it in complete contempt.

And actually, there has been periods in the past where I've switched off. Rodgers last season or so with us first time round I don't think I watched half the games. It was so clear we were regressing and I was so bored with the football itself, I was literally falling asleep during games and *.

Think he was out of his depth, or totally inexperienced in football, which was definitely an issue. Apparently responsible for the length of James McCarthy's contract and Ange's agent had to broker most of our transfer dealings.. but tbf that could have been the case with anyone on our board.. :56:

The Jan window was our best in a long while.. Ange and Nicholson, no Lawwell.. Hatate, Maeda, O'Riley and CCV

This is the thing: our investment in the club is so intensely personal and emotional, that sometimes you have to either switch off like you say, or at least tone down your involvement, for the sake of protecting your mental and emotional health. I’m not exaggerating. I’m finding myself probably having to do that a lot this season.

Im not defending our board at all. Cant suffer them. And no offence at all taken.

I just dont believe that most boards of big corporate football teams really care about outcomes beyond whatever their bonuses are based on. Celtic are unique in so much as we dont spend properly but there are many examples of incompetent and donwright corrupt boards at the moment- Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton all immediately come to mind. Newcastle under Ashley. Leeds under Ken Bates. Demise of clubs like Blackpool, Charlton, Sheff Wed, etc. And the various administrations and one liquidation weve seen in Scotland.

Im just cynical of corporate football in general without any defence of Celtics board.

I've been told by people who'd know. He didn't have a clue about how to work at a club like Celtic and had little knowledge of transfers within football, given his rugby background. His extremely short tenure isn't indicative of someone who knew what they were doing.

Utter pish. No he wasn't. :56:

I'd have Edouard, Kyogo and Dembele ahead of him. If it was based on ability alone though, it would be between Bellamy and Keane if we're honest.
