    Should be, never is unfortunately.

Years of Bitton at CB was enough to know this board won't ever speculate to accumulate.

Worst case scenario is Europa League, which is still a good windfall for us (even ignoring the 80m+ at bank) and we should be by this stage have a squad that is capable of competing very well in the Europa. Of we make the UCL then go splash on that one but of quality as you say.

Not sitting here with one fit left winger and one just acceptable (no offence Forrest but legs are getting there), right winger

It's utterly disgraceful how they run the football department.

If Maeda goes we need at least 4/5 attackers of decent quality … roll on the deadline day loan signings and the “we gave it a good try” sound bite by the end of the window.

Feel like you could reuse me moaning about any of the windows of the past decade and it would be perfectly applicable now … the board is just not fit for purpose. We can never actually build on any substantial progress.

Annoyingly the Huns are evidently still in for an up and down season yet we seem content to stagnate and not try and keep progressing ourselves and make the league even more comfortable.

As much as Desmond should take blame as well, I don't think it's him that's the overall issue

He's not gonna be that fussed how the club run, so long as it is successful and money goes in his pocket.

Too often he's came in and done the business (Keane, Bellamy, Rodgers twice), that I reckon he's not the one telling the folk with the credit cards not to spend the money.

For me that's solely down to PL and I reckon it's from his time in the early 90s with the Kelly's and whites. not to say he's running us in that same ways but I reckon he's been scared stiff of how bad it was run, that he doesn't want it to return that way - inadvertently he ha also turned the club back in to a family business (along with Desmond), just in a different format.

The whole board structure needs kicked in to touch and as we all keep saying, a proper director of football and all that should come with that be firmly implemented with next to Wro influence from the other board members other than to say "you've got £90m to run the football dept this season" and then the dof should get on with hiring thebcoachesz staff, players, allocating money to each area etcm

Personally, I disagree. He always seems to want to get involved when he wants to. I don't think he runs the club on a day to day basis but I do think he sets up how the club is run.

Unfortunately, none of us really know. It's all hearsay, really. I just think that, as a major shareholder with the other shareholders behind him, he can do what he wants, employ who he wants to carry out whatever he wants.

I actually don't believe that Lawwell runs the club, anymore. I think Nicholson runs it the same way that Lawwell did, with Desmond putting them both in place with his other cronies in the boardroom.

They’ve spent a lot of money and still seem pish. Previous mob threw everything at it, cheated and died. But see for all that the rancid * at least try to maximise their team. Thankfully for us it doesn’t work out, but we do just above * all. Infuriating

Yep, at least they're trying to improve their team. We, or rather, the board, on the other hand, have decided to downgrade our playing squad. Bizarre behaviour and I can't think of any other club, that is in such a healthy financial position, doing the same.

Could Auston Trusty’s Celtic future be in doubt?

The US international arrived at Parkhead as a big money addition from Sheffield United last summer.

He was expected to be the perfect foil for his fellow countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers.

That is how it started but that is not how it is currently panning out.

The 26-year-old, once again, started on the bench for Sunday’s win over Aberdeen and the opening day Premiership victory over St Mirren.

Brendan Rodgers has preferred to go for CVV and Liam Scales as his other central defender.

    Can you argue?

Celtic have won both their opening league games and have kept two clean sheets into the bargain.

Yes, Trusty did come off the bench in both but it was nothing more than a back-up role.

It has been a similar situation for record signing Arne Engels.

Will it be the case for both in the Premier Sports Cup clash with Falkirk on Friday?

If it is then surely Trusty will be considering his future, if he isn’t already?

The American surely won’t be happy having to play second fiddle. He is used to playing first-team football.

The alarm bells must have been ringing for Trusty since last season when he didn’t even get a sniff of the action in the Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen or the semi-final win over St Johnstone.

In fact, he only started one game in the final four league games and that was the defeat to St Johnstone.

Granted, a top club like Celtic needs competition for places. Brendan Rodgers might say over the course of the season that Trusty will be needed and will more than play his part.

The question is will Trusty fall even further down the pecking order with the arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on-loan from Manchester City?

The youngster isn’t coming up north not to play either! So that could have another bearing on Trusty’s Celtic future.

Rodgers prefers to have four first-choice central defenders. He has moved on the likes of Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke this summer.

Stephen Welsh is also attracting interest from England and Belgium and is likely to go out on loan again.

So that would only leave CCV, Pusey, Trusty and young Dane Murray. It all depends where Trusty sees himself in the pecking order

Celtic will have a mountain of games if they continue to push for silverware and look to go deep into the Champions League again.

That may be the case, but will it be enough to satisfy Trusty. There is already big European and English interest in him.

Clubs are watching his situation closely. For Trusty, it is also a massive year.

There is the World Cup in his homeland next year. He will be desperate to be part of that.

Trusty only has four caps and to add to that he will know he will need to be playing regularly and well at the top level.

Cooling his heels on the bench or being a big-part player simply won’t cut it.

It is whether he feels the door will open for him again at Celtic or would he have a better case moving elsewhere, where he will know he will get more guaranteed game time?

It could also prove to be an issue for Rodgers as he has said he is more interested in strengthening his squad than selling any more of their stars!

Board will need to get the Covid barriers out at this rate … with Matt getting a move to Juventus, that’s us verging on 10 million quid income alone from sell on clauses but seem reluctant to spend 5/6 on a winger when we’re a Maeda injury away from an absolute shambles. Please get the finger out.

Add in likes of Bernabei earlier in the year as well. Kyogo money probably went towards Jota. But still.

There's absolutely nae excuse and Desmond wouldn't even have to touch any of his £3bn. Madness.

We could spend £40m and no even blink.

I’m starting to think Desmond’s been conned by a fake Nigerian princess scam or something and that’s where the transfer kitty has gone … other than that, I canny see any logical explanation as to why we’ve not spent anything. Especially considering we will be taxed a decent whack on what we’ve brought in already.

Not that they will be any great addition but Murray and Doohan as well. I'd imagine Kenny or Osmand will be two sacrificed if we can get a couple of wingers in.
