Brendan Rodgers has revealed Kieran Tierneybattled through illness during Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie this afternoon.

The left-back, making his second league appearance since returning to the club, played until the 67th minute before being replaced by Auston Trusty. His contribution included a key assist for Benjamin Nygren’s opening goal in the first half.

Tierney was visibly involved throughout, linking well down the left and causing problems for the Dons before his withdrawal. Rodgers confirmed after the match that the Scotland international had been feeling unwell from the interval but insisted on continuing

Despite the setback, Tierney delivered a strong hour’s performance, underlining his quality and importance to the side even when not fully fit.

He said: (BBC Sportsound), “Yeah, well, to be fair, he was actually sick at half-time, but he wanted to give it a go.

“I think it drained him a little, and then a bit of cramp set in.

But he’s given us a really good hour in the game, created the first goal, and we know it’s just about building his football fitness up.

“Then you can really see the qualities he gives the team.”

Depending on injuries KT could play his 200 Celtic match against the huns at ipox in February

A real quality player, the biggest task will be trying to keep him injury free.

We need back up in for him.

Seems pretty clear that Inamura will be loaned.

Quality wise how much I think McGregor has been the clear lead in that area for years, despite some outstanding talent, potential and more eye catchy players in that time but KT, * sake, he’s nowhere near up to fitness and form yet, streets ahead.

He’s the first world class player I have no doubt labling as such since Henrik

We have a guy who I rated as genuinely the best left back in world football for a brief period at Arsenal when he was ripping it up. When fit you could count on one hand the left backs who would be considered better than him.

Real genuine quality. Delighted he’s back.

When it’s a guy like KT and how much his brief return has just reminded me of how much adoration I have from first time round, and he’s returned all those qualities he had and a bit more of a cultured football IQ which might have been one of his only slight faults in LB, crowded on the touchline he used to aim it where he thought dangerous and get it to * rare times it happened,

Not now. It’s difficult to try and objectively view him, but I honestly don’t think my assertion of World Class and you’re opinion amongst the top is stretched to fit.

That Arsenal season he was being tipped as their captain, he was being seriously looked at by Real Madrid for £50m, Barcelona were monitoring almost as a reaction of not wanting him to go there as something they can’t allow them to do, Pep Guardiola was really wanting him for City 2023 and injuries struck that move off, with injuries and struggles to get his body fit Man Utd who may be average but are still Man Utd is who fought off for him. 2023 when Pep was desperate for him it was the newly superrich Newcastle who were his challenge for that.

We all know his game, I don’t need to put the argument forward compared to others at LB, the clubs there with world class scouting, absolutely meticulous data analysis, managers like Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, with Xavi one of the greats of the game managing Barca trying to set them up for the next decade or so doing the same. Newcastle the hype with them just took over, they were wanting statement signings.

And it was injuries that has robbed him of one of the greatest Scottish player careers and will probably always be a what if situation for him thought about. And that is a shame for him professionally, personally though he is home, loved, happy and our gain.

It’s Larsson the level operating closest to there for him. With the next closest to it st us, and a great of the game after us having that argument in VVD.

The grumbling for signings I get but * me, look what we’ve brought back.

Just to address your last point, that’s exactly why people are so frustrated. We’ve brought Tierney back and Jota. The latter isn’t on Tierney’s level in terms of being measured against anyone in the world in his position, but they’re two massive signings that should have set us up to really bolster the squad and be a force to be reckoned with in the CL (in relative terms). Jota may be injured long term but he’ll be back before you know it.. so you get my point.

Anyway, I do agree with what you’re saying about him having a better IQ. First time he was here he used his engine and grit to bomb up and down the flank and pump balls in the box, while also tracking back with sheer tenacity. Now we’ve got a more cultured footballer it seems (with what little time we’ve had to judge him). He picks these cute little passes in behind, isn’t afraid to mix it up by going over the top or going for a killer pass when the easier option is there. I’m liking what I’m seeing.

First paragraph not wrong mate, I get it, I’m there with it really I feel we’re so close, a few shrewd signings and we are just so far up a level. A RW and CF are a must.

    He is world class imo.

Arsenal fans loved him. He played for them last season in the best Arsenal side for many years and everyone wanted to keep him.

It's almost unfair watching him breeze past opposition full backs and put this crosses in. Whether or not his body will stand up to continuous football domestically and in Europe, there's no doubt he's a cheat code at this level.

His body needs intense management so he's available for games of great importance.

Need someone in that can give him that time off.

He's ridiculously good, there was a moment when we had a throw it and he was barking orders at the team to push on, especially Idah. Looked liked he'd been captain for years. Having that extra leadership will be vital

We're doing a good job of building his fitness imo. We know he's fragile, those muscles need gently built until he can handle it. Weve definitely taken advice of professionals imo. Think he'll be OK. Atleast until we're out of Europe but 40 points ahead in the league :fear:
