A total waste of time. He won't make it here and the timing of Celtic's announcement shows how out of touch they are with their fan base. Everyone growing completely impatient and annoyed with their dismal dealings in the transfer window and they think this is acceptable timing. Absolute joke. Kenny has done nothing to earn a 4 year contract.

Be met with cynicism within the context of what’s going on just now but it’s ideal if he gets a season long deal at a decent club.

Will probably be signed on the premise he will be going out on loan and if he has a good loan spell we will sell for a tidy sum , still prefer him to idah

Wouldn't say that. Think people are venting their frustrations that we're still not signing anyone to strengthen the squad but handing out a new contract to a guy we were actively trying to punt a few weeks ago. Poor timing and it's unfortunate that Kenny is in the firing line, through no fault of his own. Just another sign of how poorly our club is being run.

I think he will surprise a few people. He's very raw at the minute but he's only just turned 22 and this will be his first full season at a club Celtic's size so I'd expect him to progress a lot this year with the facilities and coaching at his disposal and Rodgers clearly see something in him. He's a good attitude, he has a turn of pace and his movement is good. He's an awful lot of improvement to do on his touch and finishing for me and he has a big frame he can certainly fill out. Just look at the strides Daizen has made on his finishing in the past 12 months.

That parts understandable but Kenny is not the problem. There's people calling him rubbish here on the basis of 166 minutes of competitive football, for a 22 year old who has scored on his only competitive start.

As a 3rd choice striker I'd be happy enough with him there, ideally he goes out on loan for his development. Right now the manager deems him ahaed of both Yamada and Osmand. From the little bits I've seen I think Kenny has a far better chance of making it here than Osmand, who we also recently have a 4 year deal to.

Yamada in his half hour friendly cameo looked far more suited to doing the damage and being an all rounder than Kenny..

Kenny does have potential to get better though. Needs a good loan and to see where he's at, at the very least we sell him for more money than we've been offered recently (which is probably the most realistic outcome)..

It was a friendly. Kenny was very good in pre season against Newcastle also. Time will tell but Yamada is after a fairly poor season in Japan, we've haven't even seen him in competitive action yet so we'll have to wait and see how it unfolds.

I just think some of the comments here on Kenny are very poor form, I've mentioned it across a number of threads, the toxic abuse our homegrown players and Irish players get is crazy. Scales has been a decent player for us, he was our best player at the weekend, he will probably get found out at European level and we do need to upgrade him as a starter to progress but he's been a mainstay in a team that has won two titles now and is a very solid squad player for us. If he was a Swede we signed from a European club for £4m, he would not get anywhere near the abuse he gets.

I get we are all very * off and frustrated by the board but its not Kennys fault we have completely failed our manager in the transfer market. I think our fans should behave better than a wife who has had a bad day at work and wants to come home and take it out on her husband over a spec of dirt on the floor.

Makes sense as he still has lot of potential.

He's not good enough for us at the moment so he needs a loan bcoz isn't gonna get the development he needs being 3rd choice here this season.

After the loan he may be ready or he may be sold for decent money.

Avoids risk of him going elsewhere and then kicking on and going for big money and someone else coins it in

So what, you can still get a feel for a players qualities..

Off the back of a poor season where they changed manager and became more defensive. Killed it the season before..

    Toxic abuse. Ok pal..

As for the rest of it..............

It's bad timing for the player fans are severely * off with the club and their lack of transfer activity and can see him coming off the bench again on Sunday before the new Japanese striker and that will start questions what's going on within the club and the so called club signings aren't getting played deliberately by Rogers .

I think Johnny Kenny is well worth a four year deal, he's earned it, he has worked hard, applied himself, and looks capable of scoring goals whenever he comes on. He's scored a good few goals in the Conference League when he played in Ireland too. He's a good height, got pace and is very direct, and we need a variety of different style forwards in our strike force imo. At 22, and at the potential he has shown already, he is too good to waste on another pointless loan. As I have said before, I'm quite satisfied with Idah, Yamada, Kenny and Maeda as our compliment of strikers, I think Osmand will go out on loan.

I reckon we should concentrate our funds on more urgent positions needed in the squad.
I don't see the point or risk of spunking £4/5M on another striker, and potentially ending up with another Bangura or Scepovic. Plus why unsettle our main £9M man Idah even more than is unnecessary ? Sure give him decent competition, but not serial overload.

Well, this won't lift the mood amongst the fans. I genuinely hope the boy makes it but I'm still to be convinced he will.

I like the boy. He's by no means the finished article but he has the right attitude to make it here. Never rule out a player taking you by surprise and finding a groove after not looking up to much.

    Good luck to the lad.

Really weird timing, given that we signed a striker who wasn't even put in the matchday squad.

His showings in pre-season suggested that giving him a contract extension was worth it. Having said that he clearly is not ready to be a key first team performer yet so a good season long loan now is crucial. Actually as it happens given their lack of forward options Aberdeen might be a good option for Kenny or maybe Dundee United.

Really don't wanna throw the boot into the lad but he's signed more contracts with Celtic than scored competitive goals and he's a striker. That is more indicative of how we are currently I suppose rather than a shot at him

    That'll be Kyogo's replacement then
