It would almost certainly be a LTB, and this boy has had a few bad injuries so he wouldn't cost as much as Morton.

I definitely think we have a chance.

    The football insider update today

    No really telling us anything

Liverpool’s new plan for Trey Nyoni could effectively confirm Stefan Bajcetic’s Anfield exit as Celtic target his services this summer.

Liverpool’s pre-season campaign has seen a number of young players stake their claim to be included in Arne Slot’s first-team squad for the season ahead, and Nyoni is no different.

The 18-year-old central midfielder joined Liverpool from Leicester in September 2023, and Nyoni signed a new long-term contract in June after penning his first professional deal last year following a standout season in the Reds’ youth set-up.

Liverpool fans compared Nyoni to Paul Pogba during his pre-season outings last summer, and he has once again impressed this time around with minutes in four different games and a smartly-taken goal against Yokohama F.Marinos on 30 July.

His strong showings have alerted Slot to his talents and lofty potential, and his decision on Nyoni’s immediate future could have a knock-on effect regarding Bajcetic’s possible exit in the next month.

The energetic midfielder has been promoted as Tyler Morton leaves Anfield, but the Dutch head-coach’s decision could also influence the Reds’ call on Bajcetic’s future.

Football Insider recently revealed that Celtic want to sign a new central midfielder as Brendan Rodgers aims to improve the spine of his team, and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on Friday (1 August) that Celtic could complete the signing of Liverpool midfielder Bajcetic on a loan-to-buy deal soon.

The 20-year-old has struggled with injury and form issues in recent times, after he initially joined RB Salzburg on loan last summer but struggled to get into the team, and then moved to Las Palmas in January and did well but got injured again in May.

Now, with Nyoni in the first-team and numerous big-name players ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, it feels like Bajcetic’s exit is a foregone conclusion, and Celtic will be pleased that they look set to sign him to bolster their ranks soon.

Bajcetic made a real impression on Liverpool’s senior side in 2022/23, as he broke through under Jurgen Klopp to feature 19 times that season and was even handed a start against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

He signed a long-term contract with the Merseyside giants in January 2023, but saw his season end prematurely in March due to an adductor injury that kept him out of action until August.

The Spanish youth international played just three first-team games in 2023/24, then struggled at Salzburg last season before a better spell at La Palmas was again clouded by injury in the latter stages of the campaign.

According to the Mail’s Dominic King, via X, Bajcetic is set to return to action by the end of August, and so while an imminent move may not be on the cards, he is surely set to leave Liverpool soon, as he has not even had the chance to prove himself to Slot in pre-season.

With a loan-to-buy deal also mooted, and the Reds aiming to raise pure profit from his sale, it does feel as if his Liverpool career could be as good as over at just 20-years-old.

I mean if a LTB not a bad idea but really want someone with more experience to fill the DM gap especially for Europe. Suppose Rodgers wouldn’t drop Calmac very often anyway.

If Rodgers wants him then just get it * done, sick and tired of these rumours rolling on for weeks.

I'd take him, but it's an underwhelming sign if true.

    20 y/o.

    Injury prone.

    Weak as *.

They will likely do the opposite, especially if Slovan look like going through they will think, we will have enough just keep going, especially if we beat Aberdeen this Sunday.

I genuinely can’t get my head around what we are doing it makes no sense whatsoever. Even by our own tight approach this is ridiculous this summer. The excuses that we hear normally don’t exist, we have our big sale, we have shipped out a number of players, we have even done the project signings and have an extreme amount of money in the bank.

Morton was rated very highly as well. You don’t see any other teams willing to take this lad in at the moment.

Liverpool need to balance the books and keep more for spending, and the fact Morton wants first team football.

You’re giving our recruitment too much credit. The fact we were in for Morton and priced out, it’s certainly not beyond our negotiations to just turn round and ask if Liverpool have any similar players available for cheaper.

See the thing with Morton is we probably weren’t even priced out did he not move for €8-10m? That’s not outwith our price range.

I would take Bajcetic but if we don’t get some forwards in it won’t really matter.

Liverpool fans seems to think he is lightweight and injury prone. We need a defensive mid but Bajcetic isn’t it.

I’ve seen anywhere up to €15m mentioned. Even at the €8-10m range, which I completely agree should be affordable, our board seem happier sitting on their hands and hoping something cheaper comes up.

I don’t think Bajcetic is the answer tbh. I liked him when he first broke in at Liverpool, but he’s had a few bad injuries and no preseason. Rumour is that he’s due back in full training in a couple of weeks, but he’ll then have a whole lot of catching up to do before he’s close to match fit. I think we need reinforcements who are ready to go immediately.

I was forgetting he was injured just now and agree anyone signed now needs to be ready to play Falkirk and then in the CL qualifier.

It is a Sinclair, Kyogo, Dembele, Hooper or Roberts level of forward player we need, ideally two of them to come in and I think it transforms what we have. We had that when we signed Kyogo looked bang average then all of a sudden there was hope with him getting the best out of Christie and Abada, Rogic coming back in.

It is genuine starting level we need.

I like Bajcetic, I think he would be an upgrade on anything we have got in midfield, he has great potential, and we desperately need a CDM.

At 20, I think he is well worth a punt. If we can get him for £10m or thereabouts on a 5 year deal we should be all over it. For me I don't know how realistic it is. He looks a far bigger talent than Morton who went for €15m.

We need someone who is comfortable with the ball in that deeper role and can take it on the turn. We ain't gonna get the big destroyer there who can do it all. Unless we get really lucky.

Would definitely take him on a LTB. No risk there with his injuries.

Barca and Real wanted him 18 months ago. So I dunno why folk are turning their nose up.

Just with the talk he's very injury prone..

If he was to come in and be a regular which you'd imagine would be the sell.....then having 2 first teamers in him and KT being out a fair bit, isn't ideal..

We already kinda manage the likes of Carter-Vickers. McGregor will have to be managed also this year, very carefully as well..

Aye it'd definitely be a concern but without that we wouldn't probably even be in the picture for someone with his ceiling.

That's if we are even interested. I'm really sceptical of this source.

Not sure it’s turning the nose up, more a risky move if he has had his injury struggles. But let’s be honest, if he didn’t have them we probably wouldn’t have a chance at signing him. It’s a bit of a needless risk as well given how long we have had to identify targets in that position.

Falkirk, Livi and Killie all play on plastic this season which is far from ideal for injury prone players.
