It’s madness, he looked dynamite when Matt Oreily left from what I can remember. More a dynamic attacking mid

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a bid come in for him

Can only guess he’s no very happy with his lack of games

Only himself to blame. Barely made an impact last season.

    McCowan consistently shows him up

He was good for a short spell early last season. Did nothing in the latter half of the season though

I think we would entertain bids for him. I like him, but I think we could do better.

A bit like Valle, but not quite there.

The balance is all wrong in our midfield trio and I'm not sure it suits Bernardo, or many of our midfielders (fear this could be the same for Engels and now Nygren).

If we get the balance right, Bernardo has the talent to do very well I reckon.

But needs help and the squad overall does.

Agree above though, think we would entertain bids, but not sure many would be incoming or for much more than what we paid - so another season to give him a chance is probably best for us.

He described himself as an attacking midfielder but his attacking output, bar the drive forward in the Scottish cup final, hasn't been great. I think his work rate is his best asset and feel like he has a better future as a defensive midfielder because of that. Playing as a hard working ball winner at the base of midfield and laying it off to more creative players. I wouldn't be bothered if he left, but in general I'm happy to have him around this season for a bit of squad depth and to hopefully prove himself a bit more.

For me neither he or Engels are '8s' as Rodgers described Hatate and Nygren yesterday.. and neither have looked that comfortable when asked to play the 'McGregor' role.. taking the ball on the half-turn in tight places.. although Bernardo did ok there when McGregor was injured season before last..

Ultimately Bernardo and Engels dont really suit our system and you can see why both may be more suited to a 4-2-3-1 as several of us have mentioned..

Rodgers looks set on his 4-3-3 tho

Probably why he does so well in the champions league games with a very good interception rate.

He's not alone in our midfield being technically very good, but needs to toughen up - far too timid both physically and mentally.

Definitely wouldnt sell him yet but for 3 places there is lots of competition now with Nygren seen as a CM.

So why then when he has such good stats, does BR keep persist in playing C McG in that role, rather than unleashing him with a freeir role further up the park?

Youd need to ask him. He started his loads in the champions league the first season.

McCowan is coming on and contributing from an attacking perspective almost every single time. Bernardo has lots about him I like but until he grabs the bull by the horns the way McCowan has/is then he won’t get game time in front of him.

We could easily get 4-5 million for him . Decent player, just hasn't has a solid run at it.

Edit- not sure about this but I don't think he's started much more than 2 matches consecutively, and yes this is most likely down to his own performances, but some players do really need patience
