Fine by me. Serve up dog meat, and it'll be a refreshing change next season not watching a horse shoe.

As devil's advocate, it's sometimes difficult to guage if what you're seeing is slipping due to circumstances mostly in or out of your control... Last season we were so dominant, and our position assured, it was easy for them to coast to the finish line. Yesterday was the very first competitive game, on TV, which can often pull up a tighter match as opponents really get up for the new season and players are still settling into the new season or focusing towards European qualifications. There's also a good few left/came in to integrate and the prospect of more to come while the window is still wide open...

I haven't seen any of the game yet, caught with tons of uni/work stuff, but the question is whether we're just rough or genuinely slipping...

Engles and Trusty are still more than capable of being successful here, Idah I can’t see it. However, even if they don’t work out, it doesn’t mean we should just abandon that strategy. We’ve spent far more over the years on cheap punts that haven’t worked out. The board are * dinosaurs, that’s the problem.

Even if Rodgers is intending to leave, it’s absolutely no excuse for the board not to be acting professionally in the transfer window for this coming season. It’s just another excuse some are throwing out there to try and defend them to be honest.

The year Klopp left Liverpool they spent £145m. They players have just played a vital part in winning the league last season under Slot. Whether Rodgers is leaving or no, we can’t just be standing still as a club not bringing in players. It’s a * nonsense this is even being suggested as a reason for us not signing players.

    Agree.
We all agree as well that the club makes the vast majority of the signings.
Rodgers literally tells us how it works.
Of course the manager is picking a few key players - Kasper and insistent on Idah. But the majority are "club" signings. Such as the Japanese boys, Jota, etc. we can't now be pretending to ourselves (the fans or the club) that it all becomes stand still because we aren't sure what the managers doing next.
The club should just be getting on with what it is they have been doing for decades now.
Be it they sign players this window or next summer, the next manager is getting handed players he isn't picking anyway.

It’s just fans trying to find excuses for the board. Another in the long list of them.

Who would folk have left off the bench for Inamura out of interest?

I think from Rodgers comments he just hasnt been convinced by the standard of the players hes been presented with.

Hes said its quality rather than price tag that matters to him. And that hes prepared to wait for the quality rather than sign players he doesnt think are up to it. That could mean either he has targets in mind that board are not prepared to pay for. Or we havent managed to locate the targets at all and hes pushing them to find better candidates.

The set up isnt working either way. Last season we spent, but very late in the window and didnt really get value for money. Although theres a case to be made that Idah, Trust and Engels all contributed - it also looks like all 3 are now struggling to even get into the first choice 11 which for what we paid is not a mark of success.

This season we have started the league short on quality up front and despite ample time to strengthen we are fully into a new season without having secured any reinforcements. And based on our opening game the lack of quality there really shows.

So recruitment is not functioning anywhere near as well as it should be for a club that has money to spend.

So leave out an attacking option for a left back?

Well it turned out we used only 1 and the wrong one as well and had no backup at LB so yes

Rodgers would have known KT was unlikely to do the full 90m so think its an indication that right now he prefers Scales as LB cover to Inamura.

We also kept a clean sheet and won the game in the end, so you could argue the subs were the correct ones.

And btw Nygren isnt a midfielder. He is a attacker. So Yamada would not be the only one on the bench if Kenny was moved for Inamura

What annoys me is that this point scoring between BR and the board Will Hurt us

He was always going to make a point of it and he will continually do so..he's been promised things and has got nothing from the board. The qualifier is going to be the breaking point, not sure if this team is going to make it through

The only one you could argue you’d maybe leave off the bench for Inamura is Bernardo, but had we been winning he probably would’ve come on instead of McCowan so was the right call in the end.

The board have absolutely no excuse not to back the manager in this window with the need to actually win a tie to qualify the champions league and off the back of another 20m sale. Reeks of a lack of ambition and a want to only just be better than the Huns again, rather than look to take the club to the next level where we should be for fear of an expensive signing not working out.

One thing for sure it’ll take a miracle to win our qualifying tie if we’re starting with a front 3 of Maeda Idah and Yang.

    Nygren started the game.

As I’ve said, we won in the end with a sub getting the goal and kept a clean sheet. So whether we think it was right or wrong Inamura wasn’t on the bench, Rodgers was justified with his subs.

Yes and if he did start at RW which is his position, Yang would still be on the bench as cover.

Not sure what we are discussing so no point really. I think we are misunderstanding eachother.
