I'm now starting to get a wee bit worried about transfers..if yamada is the kyogo replacement then the Khun money and kyogo money together must be used to fund 2 wingers at least..a decision needs to be made between scales and trusty and if we are going to strengthen the left centre half position... Brendan and his contract is another distraction needing addressing bcoz that can't rumble on. Transfer windows for the last few years have become such let down for Celtic fans bcoz just as it looks like we have the makings of maybe a decent squad we lose someone important and struggle to get a ready made replacement with the excuses of aye it's a hard window to get players in. Eventually it's going to bite us in the *

The board have him over a barrel he basically can't walk away , has guaranteed he's staying so doesnt haven't the clout to make them spend , coupled with what we/he spunked last summer means the purse strings will be tight.

Board are a disgrace. They seem to do this every so often, and more often than not it's after a season of progress. Huns were out of it, and now have a rebuild, we made progress in Europe last season. So what happens, the board seem to shut things down!! How much longer are we going to stand for this!!! This club will go nowhere while the same dinosaurs are running things!!!

For every one player we sign, we lose two. The squad is as thin as I've ever seen it. Yet we are richer than we've ever been.

We always cash in on an "asset" or two and then we * about pretending to try and replace them. Jesus, Kyogo was away in January!!! * January!!! And the club knew of his intentions months before so we are potentially talking October/November time that we knew our top striker wanted away and he STILL hasn't been replaced.

We've known since Christmas that Kuhn's head was turned and wanted away. * have our board been * about at!!!

Time and time again they are selling us short. Making cheap punts in the hope of making millions in the future simply because it's worked a few times before.

If you want to progress you have to move with the times. We're not asking for £20m+ signings, but we sure as he'll shouldn't be * around in the bargain basement still. Good players who are a level above what we have cost more than we're seemingly willing to pay, Nygren and Tierney aside, as we got extremely lucky with both their situations at their last club's.

It's time the club started to keep moving forward, instead of throwing on the handbrake.

Because myself and thousands of other supporters, are sick to death of the same scenarios with regards to progression here.

Get the * finger out Celtic!!!

Need to get finger out, wpuld like a few out too, which might help and for me offer nothing anyway that any average player could do anyway.

Sell - welsh, engels, idah, kenny, yang, tilio.

Bring in a cb, 2 wingers (1 id like is serginho), midfielder (prob defensive) and striker (Miovski maybe, Id even take a punt on vardy who would easily do 2 years up here).

Morning guys! I had a dream last night and woke up with this really wild idea. Because Celtic didn’t play well against Ajax and we have some obvious deficiencies how about we sign some good players to make us better and actually give us some sort of chance us getting through the qualifiers and perhaps even giving ourselves done sort of chance of competing in Europe!….or maybe I’ve just completely lost my mind.

Can remember back when this thread started there was the usual "panty wetter" and "panic merchant" comments flying about but, as the weeks have gone bye, I think those of us who have seen this story before have been justified as, once again, our board have fecked about getting deals done and we look as though we are shopping in the bargain basement section again. I might be proved wrong and the board will go out and spend money in the next two weeks but I've just got that horrible feeling yet again

We always do this same fannying about every summer. I don’t even get annoyed about it anymore because there’s no point.

KS, AJ, CCV, Scales, KT, Engels, CalMac, Reo, Yang, Idah, Maeda. Subs: Sinisalo, Ralston, Trusty, Inamura, Nygren, PB, McCowan, Forrest, Kenny. Yamada and Murray might be on bench for Inamura and Kenny. That's how we're likely to start our season next week. Make of it what you will.

Chris Sutton in his latest article in the Record

It was an honest answer to a straightforward question. And it highlighted just where Celtic are right now.

Brendan Rodgers was asked the other night about Yang’s future with Norwich City looking to land the winger on loan.

He said he can’t even think about letting him go right now because Yang is a current starter.

Think about that. No disrespect to the player. He’s shown some positive signs that he can be a decent enough squad player at Celtic.

Think about that. No disrespect to the player. He’s shown some positive signs that he can be a decent enough squad player at Celtic.

But let’s be honest, if you’d said a few months ago he’d be going out on loan there wouldn’t have been too many folk complaining.

Yet now he’s a starter. If that isn’t a warning then I don’t know what is. So they can’t afford to let Yang go but they could allow Nicolas Kuhn to leave without a replacement lined up?

What is going on here with Celtic?

The new season is a week away. The Champions League play-off is just over four weeks away. And the team is far weaker than the one that finished the season.

It’s not like the club is strapped for cash, yet they are now facing a scramble to get the players they desperately need in the door.

Rodgers has been clever about it in his comments in the media. He tried to clean up the stuff about some signings being ‘club investments’ by saying he’s got the final say over all incomings.

But that is not the point. It’s not about where these players are coming from – it’s about the level they are at.

We’ve seen the project players coming in and he’s made it crystal clear he needs more experienced ones in the door and quickly.

    So where are they?

The same names have been bandied around for weeks now and there’s plenty of talk about the transfer fees and whatever.

If they want these guys in the building then why wait? Just go out and get them.

If they don’t want to come, then go elsewhere. Celtic can’t afford to hang about until they make up their minds or until their clubs drop their valuations.

Why weren’t the replacements in the pipeline BEFORE these players left.

Kyogo apparently made noises about going months before he departed. You could argue Kuhn looked like he was going long before the end of the season.

Those were not surprises so plans should have been in place. Rodgers was talking about needing to refresh his squad back in the spring.

To be still saying it going into August is scandalous.

I get the uncertainty around Rodgers’ future with his contract running down. But there is always uncertainty around every manager and it shouldn’t mean there’s a reluctance to bring in new recruits.

This is too important a time to be dithering.

The word Rodgers used the other evening was ‘ambition’ – and he doesn’t use that likely.

We’ve been here before with him. It’s almost like he’s challenging the board to back his vision.

I don’t blame him. When he came back the talk was about how he’s been promised funds to take the club to the next level, to compete in Europe and hammer home their dominance in Scotland.

Can anyone seriously say that is how it looks right now? If anything they have left the door open for Rangers and they are taking a serious gamble on the Champions League.

You can’t blame fans for starting to get worried. Don’t get me wrong, there are good players at Celtic who are proven winners.

But this squad is fragile. Daizen Maeda has become like Diego Maradona to this team as the prospect of him getting injured – or dare I say it sold – doesn’t bear thinking about.

Look, results like the other night against Ajax don’t matter. The same way the wins against Newcastle and Sporting Lisbon didn’t matter either.

I’ve been part of sides that have won these bounce games and been thumped as well. There are a million factors at play but they are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

I said last week the Sporting win was the worst result for Rodgers because it papered over some of the cracks.

That’s why the Ajax one might be a GOOD thing for Celtic. At least now no one can kid themselves on that everything is hunky dory.

People can call it a wake up call or a reality check but they’ve already had those.

They got it before the end of last season when Rodgers was critical of some of the squad being too comfortable.

There was another one in the Scottish Cup Final when they lost to Aberdeen. That can happen on a one-off day but the warning signs had been there for weeks.

It was still a successful season but you can’t deny it finished on a downer – and the summer has only added to the mood of supporters.

There is some time to sort it out, and there will be business done, but it does beggars belief that they are a week out from the league kick-off and in the same old movie once again.

Celtic should have been building from a position of strength not leaving supporters feeling they are weaker and if they don’t get a move on it could be more costly than any transfer fee.

Can’t argue with any of that . I can’t believe the season is about to start and we need about another 5 signings in . The bench will absolutely be frightening and if we get a couple of injuries we are totally screwed . Really gambling with the champions league qualification and possibly the league itself . I don’t think many of us want the club to spend money we don’t have but we have plenty . The kyogo money , kunh and frimpong sell on is about 30 million alone . No forward thinking to replace them is an absolute disgrace . People on here were saying there was plenty of time , well folks it’s running out fast . I haven’t pressed the panic button yet but my hand is hovering over it .

Did you see him and Powell bickering? I'd love to see someone put Lawwell and Rodgers' voices on that video. You'd only need to change a few words!

Rodgers: Thank you very much. We're looking at the player sales, and uh with the non-executive chairman, as you know. Chairman, come on over here. And we're, uh, just taking a look at who's been sold and it's a tough transfer market there, selling players where, we don't have a replacement or not buying them. And, uh, a lot of very expensive sales, there's no question about it. So we're taking a look and, uh, it looks like it's about 26.6 million
It went up a little bit... or a lot. Uh, so the 16.6 is now 26.6. [Lawwell/Powell shakes head]

Lawwell: I'm not aware of that.

Rodgers: Yeah, it just came out.

Lawwell: Yeah, I... I haven't heard that from anybody at the club.

    Rodgers: It just came out.

Press: Our notes said about 26.5 as well. 26.5, 26.6

    Lawwell: This came from us?

Rodgers: Yes. I don't know who does that.

Lawwell: You're including the Kyogo sale. You just you just added in a third player sale is what that is. That's a third player sale.

Rodgers: No, but it's it's a player that's been sold.

Lawwell: No, it's been... he was sold 6 months ago. We sold Kyogo 6 months ago.

Rodgers: It's part of our overall sales.

Lawwell: It not, uh, it's not new.

Rodgers: So, uh, so we're gonna take a look. We're gonna see what's happening. And it's got a long way, uh do you expect any more replacements to come in?

Lawwell: Don't expect 'em, but uh, we're ready for 'em. We have a little bit of a reserve that we may use, but no. We expect to sign someone in 2027. Um, we're well along as you can see.

Rodgers: Nice to take these off every once in a while, when we're not under too much danger. So, any questions?

The madness of it all is that they DONT LEARN.

These posters and fans who are quick to label people "panty wetters" do the same * every window.

All mouth when the window opens... Then go conspicuously quiet when the signs are clear the window WONT be living up to their baseless optimism that the board will deliver. When the reality is they only deliver on a reactionary basis, or after a monumental * up.

Apparently * the treble last season wasnt enough.

Winter Window comes around; theyll be back at it. Rinse and repeat.

I said about 20 pages back, Desmond is short changing Rodgers with project signings UNTIL CL football is guaranteed.
Then they'll spend a bit from the future earnings of that.

And that keeps the boardroom happy clappers happy. "We only signed x in August last year".

Speculate to accumulate, plan ahead, player succession planning, forward thinking,; these terms might as well be * martian to Desmond and his scarecrows on the BoD.

Theyll wait until they * up something, like CL qualification, or * forbid the league; panic, break out the wallet, and the happy clappers will be out in force patting them on the back, cuz "aye, they mean business now".

These fans are the reason that Desmond gets away with it, year after year.
I could forgive it if it was apathy. After so many years, its just * self sabotage.

A club at war with itself. Chronic stuff- I like Engels but no way was him idah or trusty anyway value for money at this moment in time. If players are messing the club around and saying they won't commit till after CL qualifier well then * them and move on to the next target..support doesn't expect the club to spend outside their reach, what people do expect is a bit of innovative thinking and progress, being able to field a team with players playing in their actual positions etc. but no we will dig out heels prob drop some needless domestic points and then overspend on some mediocre players in a panic towards the end of the season. Draining for support and surely draining around the club

The thing is, we’re so easy to please as a support as well.

Take Nygren as an example. He’s had a couple of decent bounce games so far and looks a player, and every one is falling over themselves to love him already.

It takes years of a highly incompetent footballing operation and terrible decision makers at board room level to get us to the general feeling of anger and malaise amongst the support that exists at the moment.

As is stands , the title wouldn't be straight forward at all this year.
Idah , Yang as 2 of your 3 attackers and your third (Maeda) is going to be wasted on the wing and could well suffer bad form as we have seen before. As soon as any one of CCV, KT, Hatate , AJ or Cal get an injury that part of the pitch will fall apart aswell.

We may lose ground early if we wait to deadline to bring in the players we have a really really tough start ....
