Other than the Japanese players though and Mooy, we don't know if he targeted those players or if we just foe some reason got a great hit rate in 2021.

I highly doubt he did target Jota, CCV etc. It's clearly an anomaly of a window. Abada was clearly signed before he even arrived, as well.

As I said last night folk won't give Rodgers credit for finding Nygren, for example, if he's a success. It'll be great scouting. I think that was probably just the same for Ange and luckily dom mckay didn't give a * and pushed deals through.

After he left it went downhill. By all accounts the club didn't sanction the signing of Juranovic for example.

Tierney and Nygren is great business, no doubt.

But Osmand, Doohan, Inamura and Yamada. Cheap and definitely potential to work with in the cases of the outfielders. But do Osmand and Inamura even stay with the team this season? Yamada could be shrewd business but he's off the back of a horror season in Japan.

2 signings out of 6 are first team ready. Three of the other 4 might barely see a minute between them in the first team this season.

It's fine, but not good enough. When there's so many glaring weaknesses in our squad, signing more squad fillers and punts isn't what we need to be doing.

Transfer business hasn’t been good enough so far, we haven’t replaced quality we have lost and are arguably weaker than last season. Still haven’t replaced Kyogo ffs.

Haven't we though? Do you know how the new Japanese striker plays? Maybe he'll come in and score more than kyogo has in his last season n a half.

You could use that same argument to justify just about any signing on the planet. Who knows, maybe Ross Doohan will tear it up in training and be the best since Boruc.

We sold our best striker for £10m and since then have signed two strikers - a kid from Fulham with zero senior experience and a £1.5m punt from Japan who has 2 goals in his last 21 league games.

If you think that is acceptable then your standards must be through the floor.

You've cherry picked the last 21 games though. Before that he was scoring a baral load. Yes he went off the boil with transfer speculation the lot. Id much rather we pay £1m than what we paid for idah. Scores 22.goals, get hated upon do to that fee.

Not really cherry picking when it's the most recent evidence.

I could quite easily say you're cherry picking his season before that considering it's the only one of his three seasons where he scored more than 4 goals.

    2023 - 4 in 27
    2024 - 19 in 38
    2025 - 2 in 21

I actually think he'll do well here, but he cannot be our replacement for Kyogo. We need, effectively, a sure thing up top. Or as close to it as possible. A guy with 25 goals in 86 games in Japan isn't that.

Rodgers always has a bit of form for washing his hands of a bad result though.

After a bad one theres usually a wee dig at the board or the players. Never the tactics or the preparation.

Despite our better showing in europe last year i think our aporoach to europe is still quite naive.

That midfield is set up to try and outplay opposition and control the ball and provides very little out of possession. At CL level if he persists with wanting to play that way then probably no board we could have would be able to provide him with the required quality.

Brendan has pressed the panic button it seems...
For the umpteenth time, openly questioning the ambition and recruitment of our club - rightly so.

Celtic sign off on the banks of Lake Como on Saturday against Al Ahli and asked about a pressing need for new signings, Rodgers told journalists in Italy: “It depends what your ambition is. If your ambition is to really progress and push forward, then we need to improve the squad"

That bit in bold is about as damming a statement as you get. Basically if you want to stagnate and toil let’s go ahead but if we want to kick on get the cheque book out.

It has all the feelings of season 3 from his first stint at the moment. He wants to refresh the squad in fact he spoke about that from April I think it was if not before and someone at the club doesn’t agree and wants to fritter about around the edges whilst we have a high accumulation of funds.

To be honest this summer was the perfect time for a bit of a rebuild. We had a number of players that showed up well in last seasons champions league who could have commanded good fees to fund it and we have had 6 months knowing what our European football scenario would be. Even had Tierney signed and sealed as one good quality player coming in.

We could have had around 4 or 5 others sounded out and over the line ready to go instead we have one plus some squad players.

    He couldn't be any clearer..

I honestly don't get what the * the board are playing at..

We can debate the signings last year til we're blue in the face. We maybe did overpay a bit but over the season, it was a very successful one where all played a positive part..

He's here now, for at least 1 more seaso....so they have to back him. Why they're * about and snails pacing through it is anyone's guess..

Season starts next week and qualifiers on the horizon. Hmm..

Agree, it's truly a 'million wingers' moment, he's openly and very clearly questioning the clubs ambition.

Seems certain he's offski end of season unless some kind of miracle occurs this window.
Not holding my breath for that tho.

Still think we have enough to win the league barring horrendous injuries coming our way is it true if the scum happened to defy all the odds and win the league this season do they automatically go into next seasons champions league group stages because of there co efficient standing arguing with a hun yesterday tell me that's not true

The argument that they aren’t committing funds because he might leave next year is absolutely hilarious.

Any football manger can leave any team at any point. Imagine a proper ambitious club like Leverkusen or Atalanta saying to Xabi Alonso or Gasperini “Nah mate, you might leave in 12 months, no can do sir”

The amount of mental gymnastics some people go through to try and justify the clear and obvious waste of potential of this football club is utterly staggering.

    The big IF for me:

If he is staying or going after this season, only a few close people will know his intentions.
If you are DD and know he is going then you don’t give him major money to waste.
If you are BR and have confirmed to DD that you ain’t staying,it’s easy to deflect the flak to the Board ‘ambition’.

Even If he is going,I believe he will still be committed for the season and we will still win the league, that’s IF we keep all the players at the club just now PLUS a new winger and striker that can finish……however Europe worries me.

    Just seeking clarity….IF only.

It's bollocks, some people just like to invent mad narratives and keep repeating them as if it's fact. Like you say managers can leave any time they don't need to wait for a transfer window, even if they're commited to a long term contract, so the idea we're not signing players because Rodgers current deal ends next summer is laughable, we could break our transfer fee record again this summer then he still leaves for an EPL gig if one came up.

I hate the analogy that we never replaced our striker we used that money and bought jota and moved Maeda to middle
It was Rodgers who decided to buy idah for big money same with Engels and trusty so he was backed if they are not performing or good enough for the team that’s down to him signing those players so he’s complicit in all of this along with the board
