Backup to their backup, sure he was 3rd choice as well.

For a guy so clearly not suited to playing as a target man we seem * bent on playing him as a target man

Aye the preseason thing last year infuriated me.

Turns out, he's had a full preseason and he looks even more out of shape and less ready than he did last season.

Btw 20 goals isn’t exactly a superb return for a first choice Celtic striker. It’s the absolute bare minimum we should expect.

People need to stop highlighting 20 goals as if it was some sort of unreal achievement

Very poor decision making is a massive trait of his. He doesn’t seem to know when to take a touch and hold it up. Far too often he looks to lay it off first time and his touch is abysmal.

Despite all the recent successes like O’Riley, Kuhn, Kyogo, CCV, Maeda, Hatate, etc, there’s no better illustration of the failings of our recruitment than this fella. The minute you offer Norwich 5 million and they say, “Nah, we want 10” you should be saying thanks but no thanks and moving on to the next target. Not dragging it out all summer and ending up paying 9.5 million because seemingly there are no other viable targets.

He absolutely CANNOT be our number 1 striker.

Would punt tomorrow if I trusted the board to actually buy someone else.

Yeah, him being able to score goals domestically isn’t really the issue. He’s going to get multiple chances every match and has a physical advantage over most defenders in Scotland, especially when he’s coming on second half against tired defences.

It’s everything else that’s in question. His touch, his hold up and general play, his ability to play in a ball dominant system. And especially how that scales up to the European level.

Never looks in control of the ball. So stiff and untidy.

Not particularly fast, doesn't use his strength, pish in the air, pish at holding up the ball and linking play...and he looks half arsed pretty much every time he plays.

Defended him previously, but I’m close to being done with him. He doesn’t offer enough in games. You could see the difference in effort when Kenny started at the weekend compared to Idah last night. I’m not saying Kenny should be our striker this season here, but if Idah put in as much effort as he did, it would instantly improve him. Still not going to help be able to control the ball mind you, something else that he looks worse at every game.

One thing that really * me off is his lack of desire. Never busts a gut to get into the box to try get on the end of something, just seems to saunter about half arsed.
I was hopeful that he would put in a proper pre season and we would see a different player, one determined to claim that starting striker role but he just seems to lack desire.

He has the same look about him as Edouard did when he was here. Sort of looked lazy at times and laid back however Eddy actually backed it up. Absolutely zero confidence with Idah being a starter here. Good player to come off the bench but wouldn't be gutted if we sold tomorrow

No point being done with players during pre season.

Im not confident he has what it takes to be anything more than a squad player. But we probably need to give him another season before totally writing him off.

Or do we cut our losses whilst we can get some money back?
After the Killie game, during his loan, I thought like most we need to get this guy in. He done everything that night we need from a centre forward. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen it since.

Personally im not confident he will be the main man.

But i think for what we invested he prob needs another season.

This is the downside of paying the higher fees.

On the evidence so far it looks like rodgers isnt convinced but i also dont think the club are prepared to write him off.

I think this uncertainty has contributed to dithering over recruitment as the club are probably unsure of how idah will end up.

But ive seen many of our players look miles off it in pre season and then go on to have a good season. Kuhn as a recent example would have been cut loose by most fans before he showed what he could really do.

MOR really took his game to a new level after his first seadon and so on.

I've said before that the board will by this point be willing to take a loss on him, but only to a certain extent. They'll have a number in mind. Until that bid comes in, he will get regular starts because we've too much money tied up in him. Same goes for Engels.

Genuinely who is going to pay close to that number?

I know people speak of English Championship teams but I am not sure who looks at Idah who was third choice for a team down there and goes he’s our man.

You would need to make one of those YouTube videos with his performance against Motherwell when he came on two years ago, his goals vs Rangers, Villa game and that Killie game at the end of two seasons ago. Goal vs Ross county last year beyond that if someone actually comes to watch him we are struggling.

Was never a fan of his and didn't overly care to sign him, but the Killie game showed me he had it in him to be a good player, so at the then rumoured £4-5m I thought it was a good idea.

To then get rinsed for twice that and for him to spend the next 12 months playing as he has, starting this season in even worse condition than last season, guys just not got the mentality or desire to be the player we saw a glimpse of against Killie that day

Honestly, punt him and be done with him already.
