I'd have thought Rodgers would have wanted at least a couple on board before going to Italy.

Rodgers has told board he is leaving end of season. Board don't want to sanction any multi million buys that next guy won't want.
Club hoping to wing it next season with what we have. Every 4/5 years we get this odd transition season.

Criminal beyond belief that we've raked in 17 mill or whatever was and still no replaced our starting right winger..

I mean the season only starts next week..

    Still so light..

If we're to believe that Maeda is going back to left wing then we're still far too light up front as well..

Every season now we sell our best players and dilly dally about. We should have a policy were if we know one of our best players are leaving we have a suitable replacement in place. Other clubs do it why cant we.
Just feels we have no ambition other than find a bargain and sell as soon as a good bid comes in.
Looks like last minute half arsed scouting copy and paste every year.

If that was the case I'd want him gone now

There really are no excuses now.

Most of the deadwood have gone out, some on loan with options to buy but their wages are off the book for the season and Tilio is close to being an obligation plus a decent loan fee which is probably close to what I would have expected to have got for him selling him the now. When that deal goes through other than Welsh who has interest and Yang who again has interest and is essentially one of our starting wingers just now by default there isn’t anyone else we would really be looking to sell.

We have had a big money sale of Kuhn and our incomings have cost less than £3m so far against transfer fees and sell ons brought in north of £25m. That’s on the back of around £7m in transfer profits from January with the sales of Kyogo and Bernabei be signing Jota.

Our squad is no longer bloated infact quite the opposite.

We have two 3 first team goalkeeepers, 2 full backs either side, 5 centre backs counting Welsh and Murray, 6 midfielders and only 4 wingers one who is out for most of next season and 4 strikers of which 2 will be costing us buttons and 1 may still be loaned or sold.

Thats only 26 players but includes within that Doohan, Inamura, Welsh, Murray, Yang, an ageing Forrest, Osmand and Kenny. Apart from Forrest none of those players will be on a substantial wage for a footballer at a club like Celtic.

So that is basically a senior squad of 18 including 2 goalkeepers.

You would like to think we would add at least 4-6 players to that and lose a couple before the window shuts?

Shouldn't be an issue. Good players are a benefit to any team and manager.

Aye that's a load of nonsense that will see us out of Europe and potentially blowing the league.

    Would be madness.

I’ve seen this story more than enough times now to know how it goes unfortunately.

My expectations for our recruitment are almost non existent, yet it still doesn’t meet that incredibly low bar.

We can’t even replace our players never mind improve the first team.

People say its hard to do deals etc...

Its doesn't seem to be an issue when they're heading out the door does it?

We must be a * nightmare to deal with.

Yeah I’m just not having this idea that we can’t get actual first team players until the last two weeks in August.

So Brugge going and look like spending 9mil on Jashari replacement before he leaves. I’m guessing Brugge just don’t need to wait until August to do these deals?

Como can buy one of our best players in June/early July but we can’t buy a replacement until 6/7 weeks later. I just don’t buy that argument whatsoever. Maybe for English based players it holds water but not on the continent for me.

You offer what a club wants you pay the wages the player wants he will come. Yeah we might get beat to a player every so often but if your proactive willing to pay the money necessary they will come.

Also isn’t an issue for teams like Feyenoord (mentioned on another thread) who have spent £30m+ already this window. Porto have spent €45m.

    * Anderlecht have spent €10m.

Luckily for them, they must have signed players literally nobody else wanted to sign. That’s why we can’t spend money until late August, apparently.

    Its mind boggling mate.

We must operate in our own little world when it comes to deals.

    This

Nygren is a perfect case of that. Just a shame we continually rest on our laurels instead of going out and getting another 2 or 3 Nygren types before the season starts.

The notion that we hold off with our big business until the end of the window is true in some cases but for me it's more a case that we back ourselves in to a corner and run out of options and have to over pay as we seen with Idah.
