21yo so going by what loads where saying about Idah will come good cos he's still young at 24 there is no need to worry about his progression.

I think he'll be fine. I'm hoping Bernardo can step up this season though.

If he had an absolute nuke of a debut season then aye. But he really didn't.

Folk have massively overreacted. He was key at several points in Europe, particularly Leipzig at home and I thought, like many, performed well against Bayern over 2 legs.

There's nothing wrong with having a bit of patience. Our fans have become so desperate for instant success. Sometimes players take time to really show what they are about.

If you'd have asked me first 18 months or so if I thought Maeda would ever be a £25m player I'd have laughed. Always looked a decent player but the past 12 months he's really came on. It can happen, yknow. Particularly with players who are as young and well thought of as Engels.

Some people have really been out to get Engels from the get go, largely I'd imagine as he is our record signing. It's embarrassing and a bit weird.

Engels is going to be fine, anyone with half a brain can see he contributed plenty this season and he has loads of development in him at his age.

It's just the same people over and over again posting a constant stream of negative *, often contradicting themself. Can't trust Rodgers in the transfer market, we need a director of football. Tisdale signings mean we don't trust Rodgers and we're a shambles behind the scenes.

Got to keep being miserable, doubles and trebles are failures because the huns won the signing players we wouldn't touch in june cup again.

Looks like Rodgers may have realised he's not an 8. Or at least not an attacking one.

Actually think the signing of Nygren will help him in the long run.

Could see him initially being used as rotational option with McGregor, coming on for him round about the hour mark, or playing games v bottom 6. Bit less pressure on him and playing a position he's more familiar with and in couple of months time I think he'll be flying.

Would also help us manage McGregor's minutes too

This is probably a ridiculous take , and no one will agree with me. It will also never happen. But I think engels could potentially be a ball playing centre back. In the same vein as Micky van de ven . He has the atleticism and the technique. Has some physicality, I don't think he quite has the game intelligence to play in centre mid , but having more time to read the game, he could be ideal in centre back.

I agree he could play at defensive midfielder and serve as a deep playmaker. He seemed to excel in his last team where they were largely on the defensive and I think he's shown an aptitude for a clever ball over the top. He's definitely not found his niche yet but I think it's in there.

We have high expectations here but I think Arne will come out good. He is 21 years old and will improve. Calmac was out on loan at this age.

Last season his form was up and down, could say the same about quite a few in this team. Sure some of the criticism is valid but he's being judged on price tag too much, not potential.

Price tag aside he’s definitely shown enough to be considered good. Price tag included, people expect more than good though. They expect great, with that outlay.

I think if we signed him for 5m he’d be getting showered with praise. He’s just the first we jumped with on that extra layout to replace quality and he hasn’t been MOR.

£11m just doesn't buy you a guaranteed, great footballer from the get go now, though. As @themouth1888 said on the last page. Look across the globe at players who've gone for much more than Engels. Prices aren't a great barometer nowadays. It might increase your chances of getting a quality player, aye, but it's not always instant nor is it guaranteed, same as buying at 1.5m doesn't mean you always get a Maeda or Hatate type impact. Can do all the scouting you like, sometimes a player just won't work out or is good, but doesn't live up to fans apparent hopes for them.

    We've paid for potential.

If this is the type of discussion that goes on for seasons whenever we spend 'big' money I'd rather not:giggle1:

He did and Biton was calm and composed at centre back, but lost his man on a regular basis

Aye he did. Tbf I think the initial plan was he'd play there in games at parkhead were teams come and park the bus but he then started playing much more regularly and in bigger games due to injuries/poor recruit and his lack of defensive awareness was exposed.

Think similar would happen with Engels too.

But I do think we are crying out for someone comfortable on the ball and able to pass forward at CB.

Both CBs get so much of the ball each game and none of them are great on it.

The rest are reasonable points but he really lacks physicality. That's something that can be worked on and would help him as a midfielder.
