Daizen has been playing CF amd Rodgers has said nygren is more of a 8/10 who can play wide. Surely to * the board wake up. Go out the UCL qualifiers and the pressure is on them with a trip to ibrox also considering in 90mins we haven't beat rangers on the last 4 meetings!

We won't enjoy serious structural change while Desmond is in charge and arguably not even afterwards.

The club is run like a family business with important roles reserved for Desmond's friends and their children. The boardroom culture of the Kellys somehow survived their demise and presumably there's every chance it could continue even with subsequent owners. It's like Rangers always overspending - organisational norms are difficult to eradicate even when you can see they're doing you no favours.

The kind of crisis that would force Desmond and co to restructure the club will probably never happen. For one, us repeatedly failing to qualify for the CL will not spark that kind of crisis. European failure for years on end has been tolerated without any reaction from the club and our decline relative to other European sides is practically expected. Europe has become a bonus rather than a goal our board deliberately invest towards, as reflected in them waiting to qualify before spending rather than spending to qualify.

All the board really care about is domestic performance and our financial situation means we can always spend our way to staying at least competitive with Rangers. Any crisis in fan morale can basically be resolved with throwing some money at transfers and Desmond has very deep pockets. The kind of crisis that would force a structural overhaul or even club sale is basically unforeseeable barring any significant change to how domestic or European football is itself structured.

I was more hurt about Ange leaving. And if you'd like to go back a read my posts at the time, I wanted him gone anyway, I thought his last season with us was utterly dreadful football, combined with some truly awful signings.

    So, ummm nope.

    This, this all day.

Exactly where my head is at.

Not sure this is the right thread but when you think about the squad and through the lens of we are playing a league game vs Rangers, Hearts, Hibs or Aberdeen, who in the current squad are you happy to start?

    I would go

    Schmeichel
    Sinisalo
    Johnston
    CCV
    Tierney
    McGregor
    Engels
    Hatate
Nygren (estimating really but I think he will)
    Maeda
    Idah (at a push)
Jota (but he is crocked for most of the season)

Players happy to have in the squad for homegrown and to play against other teams in the league

    Ralston
    Scales or Trusty
    McCowan
    Bernardo (at a push)
Forrest (mainly impact sub given fitness issues)

It’s a pretty sorry state of affairs when you add that none of the youth players look close to being ready. Inamura the manager has spoke about him going out on loan and similar with Osmond, although his mind could be changed.

We are seriously short of first team quality and also depth.

That’s funny, because there was a thread made a month or so before Rodgers left asking whether people thought he would be the manager at the start of the next season. You did have a few concerns I’ll give you that, but your starting line was “I would love him to.” So not quite you wanting him gone really is it?

unless rodgers is planning on playing the john barnes 4-2-2-2 we need we need wingers in asap .maeda is the only winger we have ,dont even know how yang has a job as a footballer and forrest has been done for 3 years .dont even care about forrest hanging around and making the odd fleeting appearence .a lw and 2 x rw are a must

People do * the bed on here but to be fair we have seen this movie before so I feel people can be justified on being a bit worried at this stage.

I think we've done everything we needed to get in, what the club think are strong rotation options.

The remaining window im convinced will be used now to push the boat out for two signings to keep Rodgers happy.

That is gonna drag, but if we get those two signings right, I think we all will be feeling a bit happier with it... albeit there will still be talk of "why so late into the window, why can't we do this type of business early". Of which I have no answer.

This is the Celtic way. We definitely aren't signing another 6 players, nevermind 6 players on fees and wages that should be quality to the point they should be in the starting 11.

I agree with your thoughts on us having done the groundwork for a pretty successful window so far. Now comes the challenge of topping it off with quality.

The one rotation option we still badly need to bring in is a left back. Other than that, and not including Yamada, I think we desperately need 4 quality signings - two wingers, a physical midfielder and a centre back.

This is an important week. Rodgers wanted two in for returning from Portugal.

We've improved at left back and that's it.

Plus we've needed a left back since KT left..... so it shows how quick we are to do things.

It does appear we are trying to flog a few wingers which would mean we are actively looking. I hope to * we are not waiting to lose Tilio and Yang because bringing someone else in tho. We lost Kuhn that should be more than enough to spark some activity.

Need to be hearing some names today or tomorrow.

Think some people are still underestimating how much work needs done this window. We need at least 4 first team ready signings plus another couple more than capable of stepping in when required.

At minimum for me. Yamada will be the striker probably. The frontline does give me the fear a bit tho if that's all we go with.

3 wingers with at least 2 being instant first team quality. We are losing 4 (Kuhn, Tilio, Palma and hopefully Yang) and although 3 of them are not of the level required, we still need options.

At the moment our right wing is essentially Forrest. I don't think Nygren will play there. You could argue we need 2 RW to come in as even tho Nygren can play there, if we start him as an advanced attacking mid then need to shift him, you're losing out in the middle.

We hadn't signed anyone by this stage and went on to spend £30m +. Albeit that spend has caused a lot of arguments. But still.

I've been calm but if we don't see names and movement this week I will begin to grow more concerned. No excuses.

At the moment our options, considering the money we have stockpiled, are nowhere near it.

36 days I think until we play our CL qualifier. Considering we've been linked with Yamada for about that length of time and he's still in Japan, it's a bit concerning. Can see us being underprepared for that game, as usual.

Par for the course when it comes to Celtic. I've already said my piece that there's no need to panic in terms of the transfer window is open for a good while yet, but it's perplexing to me we don't see the qualifiers as our intended date to have our strongest possible team on the pitch.

You'd like to think that we would get new players in as quickly as possible in order to bed them into the team but, that sort of thinking has never the Celtic way which could come back to haunt us

Celtic work on signing striker duo – ‘I fully expect it to get done’

Celtic will look to provide Brendan Rodgers with at least two new strikers this summer amid interest in Giuseppe Ambrosino, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Rodgers’ attempts to strengthen his frontline.

Ambrosino is one of several strikers on Celtic’s transfer longlist this summer, but Football Insider revealed on 11 July that Rodgers is only likely to sanction a loan move for the unproven Napoli youngster.

Adam Idah is the only out-and-out striker in Rodgers’ squad after the January exit of Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes, and Daizen Maeda was tasked with filling in as a number nine for the second half of last season.

However, sources have told Football Insider that even if Celtic do sign Ambrosino this summer, Rodgers still wants to bring in a “big-name striker” with a strong track record to make up for Furuhashi‘s absence.

Maeda’s switch to the middle saw the Japan forward score 33 goals in all competitions last season, but interest from Tottenham and Brentford has left Rodgers keen to bolster his options even further in attack.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke stated that while Celtic can bring Ambrosino’s development on leaps and bounds next term, Rodgers won’t see the 21-year-old as a first-choice striker at Parkhead.

“It would be a gamble, bringing such a young player to a new league if Celtic were to pursue his signature”, he told Football Insider.

“Ambrosino is a young player, who’s obviously got big potential as well.

“He’s a player that Celtic could develop and give minutes to, but I think Brendan Rodgers will also be looking to bring in a big-name striker signing as well.
