How nice a feeling is it to not be absolutely gutted by a player leaving us for good money. If the next on the way out is Hatate I can deal with that too….

    if it’s Maeda I’m supporting Queen’s Park.

Hopefully we manage to get a sell on clause added. We've benefited nicely from sell ons recently

It’s happened so many time yet we still win trophies that we feel numb to it …. It is the reason though why we stay stagnant in Europe because replacements do come through till season or two later

We seem to forget our strategy in the transfer market is trying to be a successful club in terms of a solid player trading model (one in one out, buy cheaply, develop them & sell for a vast profit). Kuhn was bought for 3 million, developed into a solid player with top end European pedigree & sold for 5x his initial transfer at 25, for me this indicates our transfer strategy may finally be in full flow. I am more excited on who his replacement is now & I'm sure we will be here in 2 years time again debating if we sold his replacement for the right price aswell.

Yes but we’ve got about 10 of these buy cheap players on our books who are pretty * and will never make it here. Some on loan now which is a bonus, but still our players. Lagerbielke, Nawrocki, Kenny, Kwon, Yang, Palma, Tilio , Scales, even McCowan tbh. Likely others I’ve forgot about. For every Kuhn there are 3 or 4 duds we can’t flush

That Depeche Mode when we score!!
Let us hope we use this sizable chunk of cash for a player who wanted away to really make a fine impact in the summer transfer market.

You are correct, they are dross in which we clearly never done much or any analytics & scouting on at all. Kenny was Dermont Desmond signing, Lagerbiekle was same agent as Starfelt & etc .... The point I was trying to make is if we do our homework identify a target (suites our system & fits the profile of our transfer model) spend a decent fee on them then & develop then sell on. This has worked on Kuhn because we actually identified him early & had a fair bit of data analytics on him, and this is how we have to operate for all our future signings instead of the Yang's who were recommended & so on.

So that about £17.5m? You'd imagine that the club will put a good sell-on clause in there, too. Yeah, happy enough with that deal. Scored some big goals, definitely faded last season.

What I would say is that I disagree that he binned it or that his attitude was stinking. Think we are guilty of seeing the worst in players when they're moving on and they've been significant players for us. I do think his head was turned in January and when we refused any move, he struggled for motivation or had a loss of form from not getting that move. Think that's different to chucking it.

Either way, good luck to him. Can see that pace causing all sorts of problems for teams in Italy. Como seem to be spending good money this season, too. Maybe hoping for a European slot for next season.

I hope he does well over there. If we get a nice sell on even better, but if he does well it hopefully opens up new markets rather than us relying on the EPL for decent fees.

Yes, Maeda and CCV are the two that are totally irreplaceable IMO. If we only lose Kühn and Hatate this summer, I'll be pretty happy. Of course replacing these 2 will not be easy; but it is possible if the recruitment department do their jobs well. If Maeda or CCV go, on the other hand, I don't think it's possible to replace them on our budget.

If Kühn had Maeda's courage, I'd put him in the same irreplaceable bracket as Maeda and CCV; but he doesn't, so I don't.

The guys proved himself to be a moody * * of a guy. He doesn’t want to play for a Celtic a team who is playing CL football in front of 60,000 adoring fans? He wants to play for * Como who must have offered more money than RB leipzig who also wanted him. * OFF then you miserable wee strangeling. One of these guys that is clearly never happy with what he’s got and thinks the grass is always greener somewhere else, will end up like all the rest that thought that. Bye bye.

It’s a fantastic piece of business from our side on a player who was good for 6 out of his 18 months with us.

Well worth adding though, those 6 months were * outstanding.

The cynic in me says that's our transfer budget for this season as we know the board never go into debt in a transfer window and with Rogers not signing a extension in his contract it will be loans and 2 or 3 million signings in the coming weeks .

I don’t know why there is all the chat of transfer budget. We don’t seem to actually have one, we haven’t had a net spend for years with the rare occurrence that we made Jota and CCV permanent in the June when we knew we were already making a profit.

Last season we sold over £50m worth and spent about £39m.

This year so far we have brought in €30m (£25.9m) (after Kuhn and Lagerbielke) and spent €2m (£1.7m). So to date profit of about £24.2m.

I think by the end of the window we will sell another big player out of Hatate, CCV, Maeda or Johnston. Plus we will sell, Kwon, Kenny, Palma and Welsh, possibly Yang and Tilio if we can get buyers. So will end up with sales of around £40-45m.

I can see us spending £25-30m and having a negative net spend again.

You’re right, I think that’s one that some supporters are gonna be shocked at when he goes but with Johnstons time here and his constant performances for Canada I could see a team coming in for him this window. Think anything above £15 mil and the club would accept it too.

not sure what our pricing would be on CCV, that’s one I’m unsure on.

£17.5m is superb money. Need to replace him obviously but we could do that for far less than £17.5m and probably not take much of a step down. Very happy with this.

SPL defenders had him sussed by January and his form coincided with AJ’s best form in a Celtic shirt.
Money made. Won’t miss his sour wee pus in the slightest, should have been bulleted after the St Johnstone goal-line *
