No idea how I missed this mate.

Same criteria applies to Dylan. I just don't think anyone can inject emotion into a sing to make it authentic. They can interpret it for themselves but they will never capture the mindset of the author at the point he sat with an acoustic guitar, pen and paper, some musical enhancements and the actual reason for putting pen to paper.

I'm all about lyrics mate and the more stripped back the better, you might have noticed :giggle1:

I don't hate all covers that would be daft but original is always best.

I generally agree, Sean, but what about this one...

No way Kriss Kristofferson's rendition outshines that.

Not being a huge fan of Janis or know who the * Kris Kristofferson is, I could not compare what Kris was smoking or injecting at the time :giggle1:

I'll rephrase then by saying I generally like originals out of all the artists I listen to.

When I hear a cover and I know the writer I cannot never hear the source.

I've probably heard plenty of songs that were covers but I'm not aware who penned it.

I also embellished on not knowing Kris Kristofferson. I never knew he wrote Me and Bobby McGee though. I thought that was Janice :giggle1:

I was trying to think how long it was I last posted this. I must have dropped this song on here countless times over the years but it is incredibly powerful. Might have been last week might have been last year.

You can't have enough of the bold Jake.

Funny enough my dad just walked in and said ''Why don't you play some Kris Kristofferson?'' (then he done a wee guitar impression) lol. "a bit of that, thats what I like''

So I asked him for a song for the jukebox. He said this one..

After the news of Mickey MacConnell

It was the song written by a 17-year-old MacConnell and which went on to help galvanise the Civil Rights movement, Only Our Rivers Run Free, that was chiefly cited by the Fiddlers' Green festival.
Though long seen as a republican anthem Only Our Rivers is, in fact, a cry for all the oppressed - regardless of creed
