    Merged with the Lennon thread.

Not sure a separate thread is needed.

No one connected to or involved with Celtic should ever be referred to as ‘Mo’ quite frankly I’m ashamed and depressed that it has happened.

Each to their own mate, and everyone's entitled to an opinion.

Just wondering how you would have reacted to Steins last season, finishing 5th in the league (and losing to lowly Burnley in the anglo scottish cup if i mind right). Went from being European giants and European cup semi finalists to failing to qualify for Europe in 4 years.

Would that have tainted your view of Stein forever?

Unfortunately I was not around to witness the success he brought first hand. So that last season is equally passing me by.

I'm sure a look back on the history books and a gun to the head to form an opinion may bring some sort of response - alas it would be a forced response that means very little.

Which is because I was not there to live through it, to feel the emotions or experience the lows as they would have been. No history book could give me enough information to understand the full dynamic of the domestic and European leagues at that time to make an informed personal opinion on the season at all.

But I did just live through the covid season, so I can have that opinion and it can stand on it's own without us needing to compare every aspect to another time in history or to any other club to attempt to soften the blows of those lows.
Covid was a disaster of a season that wasn't just to blame on Covid. It truly is not going to be that simple. I won't even pretend that Covid didn't have its impact on us as a club, it certainly did. But it wasn't the sole factor, and while I do not like to compare to other clubs too much to soften our own response to our own club, but literally every other club in the world lived through it as well. As much as we can point to other leagues and say things like Barcelona and Real "struggled" they didn't really, Atletico won it wasn't unusual in the grand scheme and the points tally for all three clubs who all regularly are the top three clubs, all sit within a reasonably expected level.
Or point to Juve not winning their league, doesn't fit either when the bigger picture is that Juventus haven't won their league since before Covid, they collapsed overall as a squad and teams like Inter and Napoli have been excellent. Covid hasn't pushed them on, it's just been a turning of the tide there.
Lille won in France, is potentially the stand out as PSG then went back to winning, but even then PSG got 82pts that season and Lille got 83, seasons since then PSG have won the league with 86, 85, 76 and 84pts, so again it wasn't so much that PSG collapsed, Lille just also had a great season.
The league setup isn't meant to have one team win all the time, law of averages someone else will win it.

Bayern won their league easy enough as expected, Ajax comfortably won theirs, Less said abotu the Belgium league the better ( :56: ) but Club Bruggee won theirs, no shocks, Salzburg won in Austria, Sporting won in Portugal, regularly the big three compete happily there. No real upsets actually happened across Europe in regards to Covid being a big factor.

But in Scotland? We got 77pts that season, we had 80 the season before and that season was cut short, 87 the season before, 93 with Ange, then 99, 93 and 92 this just finished season.

We, only us, are the outlying club who dropped massively that season, wasn't others being lucky/better or a league where the title rotates between a few clubs, we were rank rotten! We have to go back to the season 12-13 when the huns went out of business for us to come close to that 77pts tally, and that was with 79pts and we all know how * poor we let ourselves become then - interestingly enough Neil Lennon was also the manager then - then the previous time we did not win the league, we got 92pts while rangers got 93pts, season 09-10.

So, in short - we were the only club who was actually rank rotten. Yet Lennon is often using covid as the main excuse for it, never accepting responsibility.
Yes, again, it played it's part against us in losing some players, yes some new players did not settle - but guys like Barkas have proven before and after us that he is actually a better keeper than we saw in that time. Was that all to do with isolation and not settling? maybe. Maybe also just the club did not suit, doesn't matter overall as we stopped playing him. We simply were just really * * that year

but aye, to the point - I can not speak on the JS season as I didn't live it. But I can for the NL last season and there is enough to suggest that NL was to blame for a lot more of it than he will even admit to himself, let alone he never admits it out loud to anyone else.

I can speak for the final Jock Stein season and we were absolutely rank rotten. However, there were no demonstrations, no chasing team buses, no supporterters losing their *.

Doesn't change my opinion on Stein, who will always be a hero to me and by far the greatest manager of all time.

No one is arguing that the ten in a row season wasn't dreadful and that Lennon has to take his fair share of the blame.

Point being though is that Lennon, whilst also being a succesful manager, stood up to all those bigoted, sectarian, racist hun *, in fact, not just huns, most other teams supporters, biased media as well, stared them in the face and didn't take a backward step. In fact, he put himself front and centre defying the * to the detriment to his and his families well being, highlighting everything that's wrong with scottish society. * magnificent in my eyes, and fans who spout anti lennon pish on here because of a bad season really need to take a good look at themselves.

As much as that season * everyone off, I still appreciate him for the results he gave us before. The covid season was an anomaly. You had strange results all over Europe. Barca losing 8-2, Leicester 5-2 at Man City and Villa putting 7 past Liverpool,

If there were fans, the huns wouldn't have coasted. Plus they were up against understrength teams, who had players isolating.

Germany beat Brazil 7-1 at a world cup, on Brazil soil in 2014.

Barcelona got pumped 4-1 at home to PSG last year.

In 2017 Barcelona got slapped 4-0 off psg and then scudded them 6-1 in the return leg.

Same season Munich destroyed arsenal twice 5-1 in the same round.

Freak results happen, big score lines happen, all the time.

As I said earlier, it didn't really hamper these clubs long term over the COVID season. only we use that excuse.
Yea daft players like Boligoli done stupid, but he was * regardless.
Barkaa never settled, but we moved on and dropped him anyway.
It can be a factor, but by no way was covid the big equaliser we all are made to believe it was.

77 pts, says it all for that season.

    We * it ourselves

But, that huns team shat the bed in front of their own fans, before and after Covid. I'm not saying we would have won, but the huns dropping points would have given the team a lift.

100% agree they got the best of not having their vile fans hounding them. They also have questions of their lab testing for COVID in my eyes as well.
They got an abnormal points tally for them that season, perhaps it would have kept things a bit closer and the moral in our squad a little higher, but we still only got 77pts which is far beyond able to blame it on external factors like COVID and Huns form for me.
    That's our own doing.

Tbh it all played a part mate. Covid, huns form, suspended players, new signings being *, players wanting away downing tools. Just a really bad season. Not excusing Lennon, he has to take a share of the blame.

Made an * of the Covid season for sure, but I’ll never not love Lenny. He’s done far too much for the club and given me some incredible times as a Celtic fan.

Hope he does well in his new management gig.

Love Lennon and wish him all the best. It will be interesting to see what his objective is this year. Some chat that Dunfermline will be spending enough to challenge for the title but its a tough league to get out of

Should have never been given the job after BR left. Was a lazy appointment by the board and gave them a scapegoat.

A fresh manager would have commanded fresh players and that would have cost them too much. Hold nothing bad against Lennon.
