The honours system is a sham, always has been, and you can't fix it because it isn't broken, it's exactly what it sets out to be. The system was designed for the wealthy to give each other a pat on the back and it's carried on. Sure some people get deserved honours, but the knight and dame hoods are a posh tarts prefix.

* pro sportsmen getting honours for service to sport. That's their * job. The ones coaching sports to kids for little or no money are the ones providing a true services to sport.
