I’m 9/10 hypercritical on the jobs for the boys stuff but Maloney by all accounts is a very very good coach and clever guy. You can’t fuss too much about a guy that’s managed one of the biggest clubs in the league taking a back room role.

Would actually prefer he was in amongst the coaching staff somewhere

Always springs to mind as most underrated for me, felt like he had the ability to affect a game at any level

Agree with others that yet again we do not seem to cast the net far and wide, but this seems a decent appointment. Unlike O'Dea/Mick etc, Shaun has put some hard yards in as a coach.

I'm liking this one. He was one of my favourite players. Same with Phil O'Donnell, both could have had very good careers if not for injuries.

Comes across as an intelligent guy who studies the game. Probably not a manager but I’m very confident he is an excellent coach with a lot of ideas. Good addition.

Was more hoping he was going to pull a moussa dembele, wanyama, Matt o’rilley, Virgil van Dijk or dare I say Henrik Larsson out of the hat but instead we got wee Shaun who will no doubt be a good addition but not exactly a show-stopper of a signing

Not really... If you're getting interviewed by people who have been in the club for years/decades and you can talk to them about sharing in that experience it's only natural that you put yourself on the inside track.

Our club is actually quite conservative in pace of change, because it's taken us decades to build what we have. It's really up to other coaches to justify why they can come in, when they don't really know the ins and outs of the club. And given the falling stature of our league internationally it's not surprising we don't immediately bring in the level the fans want by default...

This is a smart appointment. He is a clever coach and hopefully he can help get players thru the academy and into the first team.
I hope he makes a great success of the role.

It's not a coaching role though

He still needs to understand players ability, the style of the team he is going to, where development is required for the player and will that be something the loan club could deliver etc. I think his coaching ability is needed in this role
