Rodgers easily.. we're a leagues better side in Europe under him.

Outside us, what he did with Leicester (back to back top 5 finishes and a FA Cup) was a massive achievement to which very few managers could live up to.

I picked Rodgers without hesitation but then I thought of Ange’s first season. It was borderline miracle working. The signings were something else. Very interested to see how Ange’s next move goes. Will he take any learnings from Spurs

I like Brendans approach more in the respect of this, BR is more of a father figure in my view. Ange could be cut throat, whereas Brendan, although his standards are high all the same, it seems he has more patience.
I love Ange and will back his success, however I do think he's a manager who's optimism and style gets countered once his opponents figure it out, much like Kyogo who was amazing for us initially and tbf was a big threat throughout his time here. So i'd agree also with the above post that Ange wasn't here long enough to tell.

More difficult to judge Ange because hes only had 4 season in football in Europe.

Hes a bit maligned for being too gung ho in his approach. But for 3 seasons domestically he had no real reason to change. His approach blew away the competition up here and down south he took a Spurs team that had just lost Kane and took them to a pretty credible 5th place with his approach beating Klopps Liverpool and Peps Man City along the way.

This season gone it unravelled badly but he still lifted a European trophy and Id argue he did it playing a much more restrained style of football. If you hadnt known who was in the Spurs dugout when they played the matches I watched against Frankfurt and Man Utd theres no way you would think it was an Ange team. So I think its too soon to write him off as a guy who cant adapt his approach.

I think theres a slight recency bias with Rodgers in Europe on the back of some much needed progress in Europe this season. Prior to this season - the other 4 campaigns were nothing to shout about. If we are crediting Rodgers for progress in Europe this year then its probably only fair to also credit Ange.

I think they're really different TBH. I think Rodgers is a better coach and Ange is better at spotting players in the transfer market. Both excellent man managers in totally different ways. Both have strengths and weaknesses tactically, but Rodgers has become more flexible than he used to be. On the other hand, Ange is more inspirational.

I'd probably say Rodgers probably shades it at this point; but both still working and that can change. Two outstanding managers.

Fair points. I probably take what I say back about Ange tbh because its just me being optimistic about what we have now and pessimism about what Ange could deliver in the future. I consider that managers come as a whole package of good virtues and ideas but its success that they get judged on. Its good to see Ange see success and i'm looking forward to see his intensity at his next Job. Praise be to Big Ange.

Yeh absolutely. At an overall level its hard not to go with Rodgers - he has the cv and the experience both here and in the prem that seriously backs up his credentials. Ange doesnt havent that longetivity.

For what they did at Celtic - I think its pretty close though as it stands now.

I'd have expected Ange to have had as much success domestically as Rodgers or more these last 2 seasons.

He turned it around for us bigtime, It was a breath of fresh air and his signings were something special. First 3 games it wasn't clicking as much as some were hoping but I think most of us could see something happening. Couldn't have asked for a better manager who's mantra was never to stop, these things stick with the players and that example benefits us even to this day.

Yea, I just have a feeling that his style needs developing and it makes sense to assume that more experience will make him more rounded. I agree though and can't argue against what your'e saying.
I'll always respect Rodgers for returning and I reckon Ange will too someday.

He loved it here and has never seen such support. Good backing from us, but you could be right. Either way we move forward and have to make world class moves to keep the momentum. Its not just about our current manager in that respect, its about creating something where each person involved can strive for the best and reap the rewards at the end of the season. I've always thought we offer something else unique and I see the strength in that when I visit Celtic Park.

Remember listening to quite a few podcasts and was well documented that Ange done a lot of work for getting in players he wanted.

Abada was Dudu Dahan who we used a fair amount to be fair but in terms of success signings Ange is without a doubt one of the best and that was without a scouting department for much of his time here which tells its own story.

Add the Steven Pressley option and then we’ll be cooking

Honestly though. I love Ange and the emotiveness of those two years was the best I’ve had supporting Celtic. Some of the games were exceptional and also the pubs were always bouncing (with thanks to @Double Dutch for a lot of that!)

However, for me, BR is the superior manager and much more nuanced in his approach. His trophy cabinet also speaks for itself. Better in Europe (great games against Man City, Bayern and Barca in his first spell even if we didn’t get the results we wanted). Also pulled up trees with Swansea and Leicester - Ange had more ability to spend at Spurs and did just about as well. An FA Cup for a team like Leicester is massive let’s be honest

He also had to do major surgery on the RD team, similar to Ange after 2020 season

Brendan initiated the absolute winning mentality at us I.e. anything less than a treble is at least somewhat disappointing! Some might say he’s a victim of his own success

I’m that split on this, I think I’ll pick up any point against the other to argue the other way.

Scudded of PSG away or scudded off Atletico/Real away. Same difference in my opinion.

However BR had us competitive against Man City, Bayern (a few times) & also Barca. Those games in his first spell against Bayern and Barca I thought we were very good for the full 90 mins, even if we didn’t get the results we wanted

Atletico was Rodgers as well, it was Dortmund that done it. Barca scudded us with another 7.

We * improved, and we learned this year. I think it’s been an ongoing process Ange started though. I don’t think Anges tactics and system was the let down, we missed so many easy chances man. Players should finish. And players learned from that, for the next year.
