So after a couple of beers and still having the rest of the afternoon free me and my mate went and played 9 at another course just down the road. 19pts this time :36:

That's 27 holes today and 21 over par off 16 and 5 handicap respectively. One of those good days folks!

Well funny you say that he can have a blow up quite easily and I'm hoping it's tomorrow plus I'm use to it now

Haven't posted in here for a while due to various personal * going on.

Been getting out a lot lately. Still pretty guff but I've started playing off the black (medal tees) at my local course to get ready for playing them for the first time. First comp I can get into is a Wednesday sweep on the 22nd then I'll be onto the Sunday medal. I need to register three competition rounds before being eligible to win.

I played today and shot 101 off the black tees so just shy of 7000 yards. Pretty happy with myself. That'd be nett 74 for me I think.

Aim is to be shooting mid 90s by end of the summer. I'm so close, it's just the blow up holes and occasional drops following a shank that's * me. But I'll get there. To be fair today my putting let me down. Three times I was on the green for par or worst case bogey and I 3 putted. Which is really unlike me tbh.

If you'd had said a year ago I'd be annoyed with not shooting 95 off the black tees I'd have laughed. So quite happy considering I've had no lessons and only really played at a proper club course for 12 months.

Completely * it on Sunday playing the club medal. The course record at my club is 6 under, and I was standing at -4 in the middle of the 12th fairway, with 3 very good chances of birdie coming in, only to go on and bogey 3 of the last 7 holes and shoot -1. Club championship qualifiers start this Sunday, and I’m heading in the right direction going into it if nothing else though.

Still great shooting after 11 holes though mate. Always puts me off if I'm too aware of a good score midway through a round.

My best rounds are when someone else writes the scorecard and I'm just plodding along unaware of my total.

Aye a lot of people are like that when they have a card in their hand. Get to the turn and if they are on a score, sometimes they can just blow up back 9.

I was back out again tonight. Not at my home course, went somewhere else for a change and knocked it round in a couple under. Had so many good opportunities tonight though. Feel like I’ve got a really low one on the horizon.

Barely played since the last round but got out tonight.

Was hitting the ball * front 9, especially off the tee and out in 45 (+10) but back 9 was actually playing some decent stuff (for me :giggle1:) and came home in 38 (+3) with 6 pars. Had a double in amongst that but lost a ball off the tee on a par 4 so I’ll take scrambling a 6.

Don’t think I’m a million miles off being able to play to my handicap again which is 13.4 but just need to try and get out a bit more regularly and a few more rounds in. Just wildly inconsistent and can never get everything going in the same round.

Played 18 off the champ tees yesterday again. Certainly the worst I've been. Its getting off the tee at times, just losing balls and it immediately causes a blow up. My iron and chipping was generally decent.

Definitely need to work on the auld course management side of things. I say it to myself all the time and then never put it into practice.

Do you mainly slice it when losing balls off the tee? Don’t get me wrong I’m certainly no expert and still have slice it off the tee at least 3 drives per round but I thought the Rick Shiels video helped me a lot. When I was playing twice a week my slice off the tee was all but gone and what a difference it makes to your score not being 3 off the tee regularly.

Initially I was basically playing knowing I’d slice it so aiming accordingly but lose so much distance doing that and on the rare occasion I did hit it straight the ball is gone.

The mental side of it for us average golfers is a big one too, it’s one thing saying you’re not going to blow up after a bad shot/hole but a whole other thing actually managing to put it behind you straight away.
