It’s a corporate machine turning over 10s of billions, similar to X and SpaceX. He’s manufactured himself to be the face of all of them but ultimately he’s a (large) cog in a giant machine. I personally think he’s a super, super, clever weirdo with questionable morals but that’s that far down my list of things when picking a car it’s not even a footnote. Furthermore, you can’t hate Tesla cars because Musk is a Trump supporter then love them because he called Trump a paedo the following week.

The attacks on forecourts in America etc… were/are embarrassing as far as I can see from this side of the pond.

Are Tesla not still the stand out in the market for infrastructure ?

Don't think people will stop buying them over here as long as that's the case tbh. I find them bland as anything which would put me off, externally and internally.

My dads wife has an electric VW id5 and is having issues with it charging but said the last time it was in the garage it was about 3 weeks before they got it back so they're just dealing with it for now. But I know VW can be a bit useless with any issues, electric or petrol/diesel.

Ive never come across an EV charging station that has a tesla charge point and not the standard type 1/2 charge ports. So no better or worse really.

Generally, if you have your own charger at home and you arent driving up the highlands every week, I wouldnt worry about the infrastructure. If you dont have your own charge point I wouldnt recommend an EV.

I’ve very skeptical of Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerberg.

I’m not sure I would’ve bought a Tesla before the * stuff simply due to that lack of trust in Musk, and I’m not sure if the * stuff really changes my view on it. I’m generally trying to buy less from the US.

That said, if a deal was good enough, I very likely would.

Never thought about that. There are some amount of public charging points now, not that anywhere near as many folk seem to use them now.

We're in a flat so no use to us at all, with prices of the cars in the first place and then the price of public charging now. Small engine petrol is still more cost efficient for us.

Bolded is the biggest stumbling block with regards to an EV purchase, for me. I do think I’ll make the change in the next few years as charging points become more widely available in residential areas though, and I doubt I’ll go back.

These self driving taxis are nuts. Watched James May using one and it's all a bit too far out for me just now but would still like to try it once, maybe in a more rural location than a bustling city.

I would never go back to petrol but thats with a drive to charge it at home and I only do 9-10k miles or so a year. When I drive south there are plenty of charge points, but when I go north to somewhere like Aviemore for example I need to plan a little.

Charging overnight at home saves a fortune. Something like £250 a year. But you cant save that if you need to pay for public charge points.

Biggest reason the government will miss its EV targets is that they are still not practical for most people living in flats or terraced housing.

As an Electrician I have installed I think 20 odd chargers in pre 2020 houses in the last year , accounting for the vast majority of my private/weekend gigs, so I'm all for them . Although they are a standard in all the new homes I've been doing on price the last few years and the prices haven't gone up that much so that's an extra half hour first fixing for * all really.

Aye I read about a guy who's repeatedly been refused permission for a charging point as it is a 'tripping danger' with the cable, he has to go to a nearby McDonald's and is also putting weight on as he eats whilst waiting for it to charge

Caveat that with, or work. I’ll be charging at work the vast majority of times when I’m sat at the office and the car is parked up outside anyway.

Jumped up to Tesla there for the rapid charger though, 30 mins and £6 later after watching something on Netflix and I’ve got 80%. A very enjoyable (and peaceful) experience.

Paid for Ohme charger to go in with Ovo smart meter, credit on bill for 3 years equivalent to 10,000 miles ans 7p/kwh anytime charged plan.

    334 mile range

Yeah good point. Some offices even allow free charging for employees. And yeah, that quicker than my charge, though I only bought the slow only for home as it charges overnight. In 2 years I think ive charged using the network twice.

Another perk as long as it lasts is if your employer allows salary sacrifice to buy an EV. Its a big tax saving from your salary and its how I pay for mine, though it wouldnt surprise me if the government stops it in the next couple of years.

We have a MG 5 electric vehicle. Cost us about 30 quid per month and we drive quite much.

But just you wait. The oil industry wont accept this, and the price of electricity will sky rocket in the near future making electricity the new oil.

Had a Mustang Mach E for 2 years and swapped now to Ionic 5. Have a home charger and 7p overnight rate it’s so cheap to use.

They are introducing the road tax though for EV drivers from I think April this year but if you renewed beforehand you get till next year before having to pay. I think they are great and the tech in the cars is spot on for safety systems etc…

Only really viable with home charger as now with cost of public charging being extortionate and I don’t see it going back to the levels it was before. Used to be free actually at Tescos and council chargers!
