Usually Sponichi are accurate with regards to our bids for Japanese players. This one is a goer?

Aye, considering they're reporting he's due a medical in Japan.

On a positive note from previous experience it’s unlikely this will even be £1m, I guess we will know soon enough if he is to be a centre back prospect or left back development option.

It does seem like a bit of a punt right enough.

I can't imagine Rodgers sanctioning this as an immediate addition to the 1st team.

    Not gonna panic yet.

Buying a defender who quite literally cannot perform ANY of the minimum requirements for a defender in Scotland; can't tackle, no physicality and no presence in the air. According to those tweets at any rate.

Sounds like a ploy to get fans clamouring to get Scales to sign a 10 year deal ffs

I read that we’re planning on loaning him out immediately, which makes a bit more sense; I’d be a lot more wary if he was being brought in with the intent of having him immediately involved with the squad. I personally don’t think there’s much wrong with the odd speculative punt, which is what this appears to be, especially when it’s happening alongside us seemingly being a bit more proactive in our handling of first-team business.

I know it’s Devil’s advocate behaviour, and perhaps a bit overly optimistic :giggle1:, but for a guy who’s playing his first season of professional football there’s some positive reading there about his technical ability and reading of the game. I get the concerns regarding him being able to handle the difference in pace & physicality between the SPFL and J. League, but I suppose that leads to the question on whether or not it’s easier to help bring a player on physically than it is to coach them on the more technical & mental aspects of the game?

What is the point of buying a developmental player when we have our own academy guys? I'm sure we could find a starting XI member in Japan. Like Kyogo, Hatate and Maeda were.

    Last part is true aye.

But I'd rather just buy the big 6ft 4 Takai if we want to develop a Japanese defender. We've done well to get rid of a lot of deadwood past season or two, I don't thjnk this is where we should be focusing our attention personally.

It's a bit of a concern when even people familiar with Japanese football are surprised we are going for him.

Some players will also just never be built in the right way no matter how long they spend in the gym. He's below 6ft already so up against it unless he's really special.

Didn't work out for the last two Japanese holding mids we signed (Ideguchi and Iwata) who had far better pedigree than this guy

The more I see, he looks * incredible on the ball for a CB. Definitely worth a punt if the fee is low...but we need to shift a few CB's as well.

CCV, New CB, Trusty, Inamura and Scales. I could live with that.

I'm not really in favour of this move, but there are circumstances where it could be a good move... If we signed a technically good player, loaned immediately to a partner team on the continent as a halfway house, give him time to grow into European football and try him next season in preseason for his development state... So long as the price and wage is low it could give us an option! It's not like Japan hasn't produced players able to make the step up...

Written off as a dud already i see. That's the spirit.

Seems like there's plenty to work with there. The type who sees things before they happen and likes to adjust himself accordingly. A year or two playing in Scotland to work on the physical side could end up with us finding a gem. All for bringing guys like that into the fold.

At least we're getting business done early. Tierney confirmed. Nygren and Osmand soon. And this fella.

Celtic are in talks to sign Albirex Niigata centre-back Hayato Inamura.

Sky Sports News understands discussions have progressed well on Monday, and the 23-year-old is keen to join the Scottish champions.

Inamura is a left-footed centre-back, who can also play at left-back.

He has played 13 games in the J League, scoring one goal.
