COPENHAGEN have joined the race to sign Greg Taylor.

SunSport understands the Danish champs are the latest club to show an interest in the Scotland left-back.

Taylor, 27, decided to quit Celtic after six years when his contract expired at the end of the season.

With Kieran Tierney returning to the Hoops, Taylor has chosen to move on.

Greek side PAOK looked to be among the frontrunners for his signature.

But media there claimed earlier this week that talks with the ex-Kilmarnock ace had frozen.

That could now open the door for Copenhagen, who can also offer Taylor the prospect of a potential quickfire return to Champions League football.

They regained the Superliga title after pipping Midtjylland to top spot by a single point and will now enter the competition in the second qualifying round.

Their 37-year-old boss Jacob Hansen signed Peru international left-back Marcos Lopez on loan a year ago.

There was an option to buy inserted in that deal which expires this month but there has been no announcement on his future as yet

They also have Norwegian cap Birger Meling, 30, on their books.

But Copenhagen are far from the only side interested in Taylor, with two more English clubs also believed to be weighing up moves.

What a tease. Becoming silly now. If he was to extend here eventually I think this protracted will he/won't he undermines things a bit. I.e he wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to stay. I mean, really not.

Have no clue but I think Taylor obviously wants to be first choice left back. Brendan quite rightly thinks we could and should do better in that position. Think he’d stay and be back up if the money was right, but we clearly arent willing to pay as much as he wants for a back up left back. He’s not good enough for where we want to be, he’s not the only one but he’s the one that’s been there longest. KT is a huge upgrade

Greg Taylor's move to PAOK was all but sorted two weeks ago.
The Celtic defender has been a free agent since his contract at Parkhead expired following the end of last season.
A move to Dinamo Zagreb was initially touted with sources telling us that there was genuine interest and even an offer on the table to the left-back and his representatives.
Ultimately that didn't come to fruition. Fast-forward a few weeks and it was Greek giants PAOK who were keen to get a deal over the line for the Scotland cap.
It's understood PAOK ditched plans to look at alternative left-back options as they focused completely on Taylor as the cheap option where transfer fee was concerned.
I wrote an exclusive for CeltsAreHere on June 9 that PAOK expected to have a two-year deal - with the option of a third - signed and sealed last week and that was even corroborated by a colleague in the MSM who had heard the same.
But despite PAOK's confidence of securing their new signing, no agreement has been struck. And that won't sit well with the Greek outfit.
Reports surfaced over the weekend that FC Copenhagen had come to the table for Taylor who it seems will definitely play his football abroad beyond this point.
What triggered a change of mind for Taylor regarding PAOK is unknown. That being said, he may still pen an agreement with the club if he likes what he sees compared to other offers.
Celtic have since been in touch with James Penrice's people albeit no offer to Hearts has gone in. Besiktas have also contacted the player's camp, so there is definite competition.

So when did his contract actually end?
It's usually the last day in may or last day in june, for most contracts

So is he still officially contracted and paid by us or is he an actual free agent now?
One dictates we should move this to Ex players and stop entertaining the "will he sign an extension" if he's technically not our player any more.

The other still keeps us in limbo for two more weeks.

Zagreb, Copenhagen and PAOK...all decent options.

All would be nice changes in culture without too much of a shock and all souls provide silverware for him too (along with a decent wage).

If I was in his shoes, I'd be taking either one of those options all day long.

A major consideration will be his wife and newborn. I'd pick Denmark for that reason.

Aye good point. Denmark would be the better option of the three, if it's a goer.

Think these are all decent levels of clubs for him, would be the number one left back, still get European games and still chance to win trophies.
Can't argue with it from a football side.

Taylor has "frozen" at PAOK, but he remains the first choice!

PAOK still has Greg Taylor as its first choice for reinforcement on the left wing of defense, with the player's side not yet having clarified what their final decision is, because the Scotsman seems to be buying time

The Two-Headed One, having the 27-year-old full-back as its first target from the start, wasted no time and immediately moved to acquire him. He submitted a proposal for a three-year collaboration and financial terms that covered the footballer's "wants".

However, the Scottish full-back's side cited family reasons for the delay in responding, which is essentially interpreted as a waiting tactic, mainly in view of developments in the summer market.

Furthermore, a few days ago, Copenhagen also appeared to have entered the game to sign the 27-year-old, as reported by reports in Scotland, a fact that may influence his decision

On the other hand, the Black and Whites, seeing the case being delayed, made it clear to Taylor that they expect his response in the coming days in order to clarify the situation. In fact, although Taylor remains the first choice, the Thessaloniki team has already started searching for an alternative plan, a player who fits the characteristics requested by Razvan Lucescu, in case the transfer of the Scottish left-back goes awry.

All good clubs he's being linked with, good to see him trying a nice new culture and decent sized club as opposed to the usual championship muck.
