CELTSAREHERE UNDERSTANDS Celtic have made an official approach to sign Benjamin Nygren from Danish side Nordsjaelland. The 23-year-old Swedish attacking midfielder has just six months left on his deal, and the club are trying to get ahead of the queue to land him this summer.



We’re told Celtic are now in talks with Nygren and his representatives, and the fee isn’t expected to be a major issue. Around £2 million could be enough to get it done, if everything goes smoothly on the player’s side.

Now, here’s the thing: Nordsjaelland aren’t desperate to sell, even though he’s out of contract soon. So this is one that hinges on what Nygren wants. And he’s not short of options. Bundesliga and Belgian sides are sniffing about after a season where he scored 16 goals and chipped in with 4 assists.

He’s a proper creative outlet — mostly plays as a number 10, but can also drop deeper or shift out wide if needed. Celtic clearly see him as someone who could add a bit more spark and flexibility to the midfield.

There’s real interest from our side, and if Rodgers gets his man, it could be a tidy bit of business. Let’s see how it plays out over the next wee while.

You get the impression we'll see him in a few different roles here but possibly mainly as an attacking 8/10 type, even though he's played the majority of his time last season as a forward on the right, left and as a false 9..

His numbers are really impressive since he moved to FCN.

107 games, 35 goals and 8 assists. He looks really effective off the left side but I think he would be unreal in midfield and he's played there 20 times in that period, either as a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder.

At £2m, what a * bargain. GET HIM SIGNED CELTIC. Not trying to * on Yang, who has no doubt improved over the last couple of seasons but we paid more for him than we would for this guy. I'm actually convinced we could bring in more from Yang than we would have to fork out for this guy.

Exactly the sort of signings we should be making.

Benjamin Nygren is not going down on suitors this summer.

The contract with FC Nordsjælland expires in the winter, but the Swede has confirmed that he will not continue at the club after that. If FCN wants to make money from him, he must be sold this summer

Tipsbladet has previously revealed that FC Copenhagen are chasing Benjamin Nygren, but that they have been rejected by FCN. According to Tipsbladet's information, there are also suitors from the Bundesliga in particular, which goes well with the fact that he has previously announced that it is his goal to switch to a club in a top five league.

Now another club has signed up, although it is not from a top five league. On the other hand, it is a big club with a huge fan base.

The Scottish Sun reports that Celtic and especially manager Brendan Rodgers love him, and they are considering sending an offer to FC Nordsjælland after intense scouting of the Swede for several months.

According to the media, a bid of around DKK 17.5 million could be enough to buy Nygren.

Therefore, it makes good sense if you turn up the interest in Nygren, who will undoubtedly be a fierce battle this summer.

Brilliant range of passing, he could definitely play a variety of positions for us. No brainer.

 

Most highlights show him switching the ball out to the left from the right wing position. I think he's not that great as a winger, TBH.

It comes across to me that he is more of a central attacking mid player who drifts over to the right hand side, like O'Riley used to for us.
