And Brondby wouldn't have sold if price was right?

Every player on the planet is for sale - we simply didn't offer enough over 4 successive transfer windows and now very likely regret not taking plunge earlier when price much lower and we didn't have bigger rivals for his signature.
That all assumes we wanted him of course - which seems to be the case.

Sometimes you need to move decisively and pay more than is comfortable or a 'good deal' to get what you really want - not something we are good at historically.
That's part of the reason for the infamous transfer window 'review' we had (or didn't? - will we ever know?)

We need to learn from it and move on.

You'd imagine that'd still peak our interest but with him now being capped by Denmark we will not be first in line..

    Spot on.

If we wanted him enough, we’d have signed him.

I'd love us to sign him, but I also want Maeda to be starting through the middle.

    Kvistgaarden in
    Idah out

LW: new signing, Maeda, Yang, (Jota)
    RW: Kuhn, Forrest, Yang
    ST: Maeda, Kvistgaarden

Maybe not at the right price though.

What if they were asking £15-18m to sell in January?

There are situations where a club absolutely wouldn't sell a player, particularly if the player himself is keen on staying.

Yep, but that what happens when you are desperate, it's nearly closing time and manager is ready to chuck toys out pram because our one and only striker has an injury scare.

That's why solid planning and the recruitment of right players is crucial.
Idah - jury still out on whether we got that right or not.

But assuming we have very carefully identified the right player, don't feckin lose him because of procrastination and self imposed spending limits when we have the cash.

In Kvistgaardens case, it's very likely already too late as more attractive leagues are now interested and transfer fees become less of a factor.
Missed the boat, move to the next one - but let's be more decisive and proactive and switch off the famous 'monitor'

but the Hoops have bowed OUT of a bidding war for Brondby ace Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his frontline but Record Sport understands Celtic have dropped interest in long-term target Kvistgaarden.

The Danish hitman was on the radar last summer when Parkhead chiefs explored the prospect of an £8m move before Adam Idahsecured his permanent switch from Norwich City.

Kvistgaarden was also linked with Celts in January but it is understood the Hoops had cooled on the move and switched attention to other targets amid reservations about the player’s fit.

The 22-year-old is set to leave Brondby in the coming weeks and is being trailed by West Ham and Eintracht Frankfurt – with Lazio also now entering the race.

The Danes are looking to bank more than £12m for the striker – who was called up for the senior national side last week but has now joined up with the youth set up ahead of the Under 21 Euros.

    Bit annoying ngl.

Need to be more aggressive in the market at times. Even a year ago we'd already been scouting this guy for 12 months.

Aye frustrating ngl but as I said in other threads any ideas of £9m plus bids for players this summer isn't happening we might get a £3m or so punt on a striker we have never heard of

We are not going to unsettle Idah with drafting in £13M strikers.

It's the stuff that is made of wild dreams.:BR1:

I agree mate. We have to back the Board here given just what you have outlined.
We can't afford to be frivoulous with money, like the other crowd across the road.
